In order to study the regularity of shedding virus from infected SPF chickens and the formation of aerosol of H9N2 subtype AIV, SPF chickens were bred in a positive and negative pressure isolator. Aerosol samples were collected by AGI-30 (All Glass Impinger-30) extractor, and simultaneously trachea and cloaca samples were collected by tracheal swabs and cloacal swabs in different periods after challenged with vi- ruses. The above-mentioned samples were detected by HI, Dot-ELISA and RT-PCR methods. The results in- dicated that aerosols were isolated from the 4 days to the 43 days after inoculation. It was proved that H9N2 subtype AIV could copy themselves in respiratory passage and cloaca, and then could formation of aerosols. AIV H9N2 subtype could be isolated from cloacal and tracheal swabs 3 days after inoculation and lasted for 45 days, viruses were detected from all infected SPF chickens on 7 days.

Objective To observe the effects of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE)combined with atorvastatin on carotid atherosclerosis of the elderly. Methods Consecutivly 122 patient aged( 73.2 ±12.8) years with hypercholesterolemia and diagnosed as asymptomatic carotid artery plaques were randomly assigned to single atorvastatin(20 mg/d) treatment group (n=63) and combination treatment (atorvastatin 10 mg/d plus GSPE 400 mg/d) group (n=59).Serum total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride (TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels were detected before treatment and 3,6,12 months after treatment.Mean maximum carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT),plaque score and stability were also assessed by carotid ultrasound. Results After 3 months of treatment, serum levels of TC,TG and LDL-C in both groups were lower than before treatment (all P<0.01),but no difference was found between the two groups (P>0.05).HDL-C levels was enhanced by 20.2% in combination treatment group after 3 months of treatment (P<0.05),there was difference after 6 months treatment between two groups (P<0.05).Serum hs-CRP concentrations were decreased by 1.7 mg/L and 3.6 mg/L,3.8 mg/L and 6.3 mg/L,5.9 mg/L and 8.3 mg/L after 3,6 and 12 months treatment as compared with pretreatment, respectively in the two groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01).There was difference in hs-CRP levels between groups after 6 and 1.2months of treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).There were MMCIMT reduction by 1.3% and 2.0% (P>0.05),3.4% and 5.3%(P>0.05 and P<0.05 ),5.1% and 8.6% after 3,6 and 12 months of treatment(P<0.05 and P<0.01) in the two groups, with distinct difference after 12 month treatment (P< 0.01 ).The plaque scores were declined by 6.8 % and 13.1% ( both P > 0.05 ),14.5 % and 28.0% (P>0.05 and P<0.05),19.2% and 45.0%(P<0.05 and P<0.01)after 3,6 and 12 months of treatment while significant difference was found between the two groups after 12 months treatment (P<0.05).Unstable plaque and the total number of plaque was dropped by 8 and 14 in single group,19 and 28 in combination group, respectively, after 12 months of treatment. Conclusions GSPE combined with atorvastatin may inhibit the development of carotid intima-media thickness, reduce carotid plaque and promote stabilization of carotid plaque.

ObjectiveTo test the reproducibility of wave intensity (WI)analysis derived measurements of pulse wave velocity (PWV),and to compare it with the traditional method-applanation tonometry.MethodsOne hundred and ten outpatient volunteers were enrolled in the study. The R-W1 of right brachial artery and right posterior tibial artery were measured through WI in diagnostic ultrasound equipment (Aloka α10),and were used to calculate the right brachial artery PWV which were also measured by tonometry (VP-1000) simutaneously;thus 30 of these volunteers were randomly selected to repeat the above examinations in the same session.Differences between the two methods were investigated by means of a paired t-test,and their linear correlations were also analyzed.Bland-Altman method was used to analyze the agreement between the two methods and their intraobserver intrasession variabilities.ResultsMean baPWVs determined by WI and tonometry were (13.03 ± 1.93) m/s and ( 12.05 ± 2.02) m/s,respectively (P <0.001),and the mean of their difference was (0.98 ± 1.1)m/s giving 95 % limits of agreement of ( - 1.18 m/s,3.14 m/s).Values of PWV obtained by the two systems were highly correlated( r =0.85,P< 0.001 ),with their intraobserver intrasession variabilities being 8.2% and 7.0%,respectively.ConclusionsWI provides a new noninvasive and convenient method to measure PWV with good agreement and similar reproducibility to the standard tonometry system.

ObjectiveTo quantify the underestimation of cardiac blood flow velocities measured by Doppler echocardiography and to explore a method for correction using a new explored dual PW/TDI technique.MethodsThe dual PW/DTI mode was used to simultaneously record the aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonary valvular blood flow velocity and the adjacent valvular annulus velocity in forty healthy volunteers, then the underestimations of the flow velocities were calculated.ResultsThe true blood flow velocity relative to the valvular annulus could be obtained by dual PW/TDI technique.Conventional Doppler echocardiographic measurements significantly underestimated the true velocity ( P < 0.001).The actual aortic blood flow velocity had a significant underestimation of (8.5 ± 1.2) %,the actual flow velocity of the pulmonary artery had a significant underestimation of (6.6 ± 1.1) %,the underestimations of E and A wave of mitralvalve's were (13.4 ± 1.7)% and (16.7± 3.4)%,the underestimations of E and A wave of tricuspid valve' s were ( 18.7 ± 1.9) % and (26.0 ± 16.1 ) %.ConclusionsThe cardiac blood flow velocity measured by Doppler ultrasound has been significantly underestimated and this underestimation can bequantified and corrected using dual PW/DTI technique based on the principle of motion relativity.
