Authors have experienced 30 cases of traumatic hyphema for the recent 3 years. We treated all the patients by absolute bed rest. binocular patches, enzyme and osmotherapy, and in some cases, anterior chamber irrigation was performed. The following conclusions were obtained; 1) It took 2~3 1/2 days to be absorbed in the cases of hyphema less than one-quarter volume of anterior chamber. 2) It took 4-16 days in the cases of total hyphema. 3) In most cases of hyphema more than three-quarters volume of anterior chamber, they were associated with other ocular injuries and also shawed poar visual prognosis.

The nevus of Ota is a distinctive, mesodermal pigmentation of the facial skin commonly combined with pigmentation of the eye, usually congenital but capable of benign progression. It is usually unilateral, but in the 1st of these 2 cases, pigmentation of the facial skin and the eye was bilateral and associated with pigmentation of the left shoulder and the anterior cervical area(nevus of Ita). In the 2nd of these 2 cases, pigmentation of the eye and the shoulder was bilateral. Pigmentation of the eye accompanies that of sclera in every case, that of conjunctiva, iris and choroid in some case. It accompanies that of optic disc rarely, but in the 1st of these 2 cases, the pigmentation of optic disc was found in both eyes, in the 2nd, in the right eye. We have experienced the above-mentioned 2 cases of nevus of Ota associated with nevus of Ito which accompanied the pigmentation of optic disc, that are rare. We briefly reviewed the literature relating to nevus of Ota and Ito.

Intravenous urography is very important in the detection of pathological conditions of the urinary tract, but the presence of intestinal gas shadows may be very confusing in the interpretation of urograms. There is considerable difference of opinion regarding the desirability of preparing patients for excretory urography. we obtained clinical impression and statistical results that intestinal gas was increased with prolonged duration after last diarrhea, also with sleeping after last diarrhea. So we attempted one new method of preparation in which employed 30cc, of castor oil for catharsis two times at night before examination and next morning 6:00 a. m. and result was compared with other methods. A total of 300 cases, for the most in-patients, consisted of 6 groups, were studied in this report. All patients had nothing by mouth after midnight until the X-rays were completed and pyelograms usually were taken in the morning. Following methods of preparation were studied. Group 1 : 60 cc. castor oil at bed time. Group 2 : 60 cc. castor oil at 4:00 a. m. Group 3 : 30 cc. castor oil at bed time and 30 cc. at 6:00 a. m. Group 4 : 60 cc. castor oil at bed time and enema in the morning. Group 5 : No cathartics and enema. Group 6 : Dulcolax 2 tablets at bed time. The X-ray films were graded as A) excellent B) good C) fair D) poor by three or more examiners. Group 3. afforded best result. We believed that result was due to prevention of intestinal fermentation by ingestion of castor oil at bed time and passage of swallowed air before X-ray examination by repeated ingestion at 6:00 a. m. A larger series of cases over a longer period of time, for more accurate statistical study, is warranted.

The lymphatic system is of considerable importance in the spread of malignant tumors. Lymphography provides a simple and direct radiological method of demonstrating clinically unsuspected metastases in lymph nodes. Our study was intended to assess the role of lymphography in the management of the genitourinary tract tumors. The following results were obtained 1) It is helpful in the assessment of plaints with carcinoma of the penis, who have inguinal metastasis and are under consideration of inguinal lymphadenectomy. 2) It is helpful in determining the radiation portals. 3) It is helpful in deciding the stage of disease and in expecting the prognosis. 4) It is superior to IVP in detecting retroperitoneal metastasis. 5) It is valuable in confirming the completeness of lymphadenectomy. 6) It is helpful in reviewing the response to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and also in the evaluation of recurrence within one year.

Recently we experienced 10 cases of posterior urethral injury associated with pelvic fracture. Of these patients 5 underwent primary realignment with perineal traction on the prostate (Selikowitz method), and the other 5 underwent immediate cystostomy and delayed urethroplasty (Johanson method). Comparison of the post-operative complications didn`t appear to show significant differences in the 2 groups, although the numbers were small. But patients who performed immediate cystostomy and delayed urethroplasty showed some disadvantages of the long period of treatment, high charges, often multiple hard procedures and the long time of operation. Therefore in the initial management of posterior urethral injury, we think it better to take primary realignment in Korean socioeconomic circumstances, if the patient is not in the high risk.

A clinical observation on the nephrectomized 114 patients in the department of Urology, Han Gang Sung Sim Hospital, during the period from January, 1972 to December, 1979 was presented with brief review of the literature. The result were as follows: 1. The total number of in-patients during above period was estimated to 1492. and nephrectomies were performed in the 114 of the 913 urologic operations. (12.4%) 2. The age distribution ranged from 1 year to 66 years with the most common age groups in the 4 th decades. (22.8%) 3. The ratio of male to female was 1.2 to 1. 4. Among the symptoms on admission, hematuria was in 82 cases (71.9%), flank pain in 74 cases (64.9%), and urinary frequency in 46 cases. (40.4%) 5. The causative diseases of the operated kidney showed the highest in renal tuberculosis (30.7%), renal tumor (18.4%), calculous disease (17.5%). renal injury (14.9%) and hydronephrosis (10.5%) by sequence. 6. Flank approach with 1 rib resection was the most frequently used in 52 of 114 cases. 7. Postoperative complications were seen with 3 cases of wound infection, 2 cases of wound dehiscence, 2 cases of atelectasis, 1 case of pneumonia, and 1 case of paralytic ileus. 8. 110 cases (96%) were discharged within 2 weeks after surgery.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Shiquan Dabu Tang (SDT) on growth and angiogenesis of subcutaneously implanted tumors, hepatic metastases, and incision-implanted tumors after surgical removal of primary colon tumor in mice.

OBJECTIVETo culture rat prostate glandular epithelial cells and study their barrier functions in vitro.

METHODSRat prostate glandular epithelial cells were cultured in vitro. The expression of the tight junction protein claudin-1 was determined by immunohistochemistry, the structure and composition of the epithelial cells observed under the inverted microscope and transmission electron microscope. The transepithelial electrical resistances (TEERs) were monitored with the Millicell system. The permeability of the prostate glandular epithelial cells was assessed by the phenol red leakage test.

RESULTSCompact monolayer cell structures were formed in the prostate glandular epithelial cells cultured in vitro. Immunohistochemistry showed the expression of the tight junction protein claudin-1 and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the formation of tight junctions between the adjacent glandular epithelial cells. The TEERs in the cultured prostate glandular epithelial cells reached the peak of about (201.3 ± 3.5) Ω/cm2 on the 8th day. The phenol red leakage test manifested a decreased permeability of the cell layers with the increase of TEERs.

CONCLUSIONThe structure and function of rat prostate glandular epithelial cells are similar to those of brain capillary endothelial cells, retinal capillary endothelial cells, and intestinal epithelial cells. In vitro cultured prostate glandular epithelial cells have the barrier function and can be used as a model for the study of blood prostate barrier in vitro.

To discuss the effect of environmental factors and photosynthesis on the growing of plant and the content of active components in Scutellaria baicalensis, the photosynthetic physiology index and diurnal changes of flavonoid constituent of S. Baicalensis were observed and tested in flowering and fruiting stages, and in the meantime environmental parameters were recorded. The obtained data were analyzed data by using path analysis and gray correlation analysis. The results showed that PAR and SWC were important environmental factors impacting on photosynthesis of S. baicalensis. SWC, RH and Ca were important environmental factors impacting on baicalin content. PAR, Po and Ta were important environmental factors impacting on baicalein content.
