OBJECTIVETo observe the difference in the therapeutic effects on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) among auricular electroacupuncture therapy plus isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste (combined therapy), electroacupuncture (EA) and TDP irradiation.
METHODSEighty-nine cases were randomized into three groups. In the combined therapy group (30 cases), the auricular electroacupuncture therapy was adopted together with the isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste. The auricular points were xi (AH4), pizhixia (AT4), shenmen (TF4), etc. The Lingxian herbal paste was applied at Yanglingquan (GB 34), Dubi (ST 35), Zusanli (ST 36), Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Heding (EX-LE 2) and Ashi points. In EA group (29 cases), EA was applied at the acupoints that were same as those in the isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste. In TDP group (30 cases), TDP irradiation was given at the affected knee. The treatment was given once every day, 10 treatments made one session and there was 1 week at the interval among sessions. Totally, 3 sessions of treatment were required. KOA clinical symptom and physical sign score and the single item pain symptom score of Lequesne index were observed before treatment and 1 week after treatment in the patients of each group separately. The efficacies were compared among the three groups.
RESULTSOne week after treatment, the total score of symptoms and physical signs of the patients in each group was reduced significantly as compared with that before treatment (all P < 0.05). The improvements in the symptoms and physical signs in the combined therapy group were better than those in the other two groups (1.50 +/- 1.57 vs 2.52 +/- 1.82, 2.63 +/- 1.97, both P < 0.05). The improvement in pain in the combined therapy group was also better than that in the other two groups (2.37 +/- 0.81 vs 2.83 +/- 0.92, P < 0.05; 2.37 +/- 0.81 vs 3.03 +/- 0.77, P < 0.01). The curative rate in the combined therapy group was 40.0% (12/30), which was higher than 17.2% (5/29) in EA group and 20.0% (6/30) in TDP group separately (both P < 0.01). The overall efficacy in the combined therapy group was superior to the other two groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe auricular electroacupuncture therapy plus isolated moxibustion with Lingxian herbal paste is advantageous at the total score of the symptoms and physical signs and the overall efficacy in the patients of KOA as compared with EA at the local acupoints and local TDP irradiation.

AIM: To study the effect of torsional mode phacoemulsification on cornea in patient with age-related cataract.METHODS: Totally 161 age-related cataract patients (196 eyes) were assigned randomly to phacoemulsification by torsional mode(Group A) or conventional ultrasound mode (Group B) in our hospital from January 2012 to December 2014.The intraoperative data of effective ultrasound time(UST)and effective cumulative dissipated energy(CDE) were recorded.Postoperative outcomes and the change of the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),corneal edema degree(CED),central corneal thickness(CCT) and endothelial cell count were also recorded and compared.RESULTS: For grade Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ nuclear density, the mean UST and mean CDE were significantly lower in Group A.The average BCVA of Group A was better than Group B at 1 and 7d after surgery. But at 30d postoperative, there was no statistical difference between these two groups(P>0.05).The corneal clarity and the mean change of central thickness showed significantly less corneal edema in Group A than Group B in 1 and 7d postoperatively. This difference was no longer found significantly at 30d after surgery(P>0.05).At 7 and 30d postoperative, the endothelial cells in Group B were lower than in Group A.CONCLUSION: By reducing the effective UST and CDE intraoperatively, the main effect of torsional mode phacoemulsification on cornea shows less damage to endothelium cells, and patients get better prognosis. But the damage to cornea by torsional mode phacoemulsification isn`t fundamentally solved.

· AIM: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of anterior lens capsule inclusion in combined trabeculectomy and cataract surgery in preventing scar formation of the filtering bleb in rabbit model.· METHODS: Twerty-Four eyes (12 rabbits) with glaucoma model were studied, anterior lens capsule inclusion in trabeculectomy with the small-incision cataract surgery were performed on all right eyes (experimental group) and no implants were applicator in trabeculectomy with the small-incision cataract surgery on all left eyes (control group). These operated eyes were followed up from day 1 to 6 months postoperatively. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured and filtering blebs were observed after surgery. Other main outcome measures: cornea、conjunctiva、formation of the anterior chamber, anterior chamber depth、inflammatory reaction、achievement ratio of operation and complications were analyzed. On week 1, 2, 4, 12 and 24 after surgery the animal were killed in batch. Tissue was harvested from the bleb area and was made pathological section. HE staining、light microscope and micro photo analysis technique were applied to observe the cytological and histopathologic characteristics of the filtering tunnels.· RESULTS: There were significant differences between the two groups on IOP (1, 2, 4 weeks)、filtration bleb, achievement ratio of operation and complications. In experimental group, at the first month postoperatively, anterior lens capsule absorption started with inflammatory characteristics. The peak of inflammatory reaction occurred 1 week after operation and all the cells in the filtrating tunnel disappeared 6month after surgery. The fibroblast proliferation in control group occurred at I week and the filtrating tunnel closed with angiogenesis at 1 month after surgery. Fibroblast proliferation started 1week after surgery with no statistical difference during the time course (P >0.05). Significant statistical differences were observed by comparing the fibro blasts numbers per unit area in the filtrating tunnel in experimental group and those in control groups (P<0.05).· CONCLUSION: Anterior lens capsule was totally absorbed at 6 months postoperatively. Anterior lens capsule inclusion in trabeculectomy with cataract surgery can possibly control intraocular pressure effectively, long-term sustainability of functional filtration bleb, inhibition of the proliferation of fibroblasts and opening of the filtrating pathway in the experimental animal models were satisfied. Compared to the control group, anterior lens capsule application has less complication.

OBJECTIVEThe three-dimensional (3D) craniofacial measurements were studied through the quantitative computed tomography (CT). The dynamic database of quantitative measurement of three-dimensional craniofacial bone was established as mandible in physiological position.
METHODS170 aesthetics female were examined by spiral volumetric CT (GE SR-7000). 3D craniofacial bone images were reformatted and 3D measurements were performed in SUN Workstation respectively. 33 points were defined in the 3-d craniofacial structure in screen, 14 distances and 11 angles were measured, and 12 ratios were calculated in each case. All data were transferred into the database based on the SPSS software. There is all information of one case (such as number, sex, age, distances, angers) in one row; each column is a measurement item. The mean, standard deviation, standard error, medium, coefficient of variation and 95% confidence interval of data can be calculated and the correlation, regression between several groups of measurement item can be proceeded by computer automatically in the dynamic database.
RESULTS3D craniofacial bone imagings were displayed in arbitrary views without disturbing superposition by using cutting, rotating and 3D measurement procedures. The large data volume provides more information of special relationship of skull base, zygomatic bone, maxilla, mandible and vertebra. The coefficient of variation of skull base is less than them of maxilla and mandible. The standard deviation of ratios is further smaller than the standard deviation of distances and angles. With stepwise regression, the equation is (Go - Go) Y = 0.578X1 + 0.754X2 + 0.228X3 - 0.579X4 - 14.672; (Tz- Tz) : Y = 0.775X1 + 0.161X2 + 0.348X3 + 0.201X4 + 27.730.
CONCLUSIONSThe database offers reference of the studying of growth rule of craniofacial bone of aesthetics female. It will help improve diagnostic accuracy, staging of reconstruction, precision of corrective surgery, and follow-up patients.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2006;31(5):659-662
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the effect of reinioside C (RC) on the expression of lectin-like oxidized low density lipoprotein receptor (LOX)-1 mRNA and LOX-1 protein induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).
METHODS:
HUVECs were cultured with ox-LDL (50 mg/L) for 24 h in the absence or presence of RC (1, 3, and 10 micromol/L). The expressions of LOX-1 mRNA and LOX-1 protein were examined by RT-PCR and Western-blot.
RESULTS:
Incubation with ox-LDL (50 mg/L) significantly raised the expression of LOX-1 mRNA and LOX-1 protein,which was concentration-dependent.
CONCLUSION
RC can inhibit the increased expression of LOX-1 mRNA and LOX-1 protein induced by ox-LDL in HUVECs.
