Enchondromas generally occur in the hand and uncommonly in the long bones. Because enchondromas are usually asymptomatic, most are discovered during diagnostic radiology for another disease. Here, we describe a case of enchondroma in the right humerus in a 79-year-old female patient with concomitant rotator cuff tear arthropathy. The patient was initially hospitalized for prolonged pain and pseudoparalysis of the right shoulder. The condition, which was histologically confirmed as an enchondroma in the proximal humerus, was treated with curettage and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. In this case report, we present a rare case of an enchondroma with combined rotator cuff tear arthropathy.

Thirty-nine healthy pigs (28-32 days old) were purchased from a commercial swine farm and housed at swine pens of the College. The animals were vaccinated intramuscularly (1 ml) with an attenuated live hog cholera virus (HCV, LOM strain) and then boostered at 5 weeks after the first vaccination. The animals were divided into 4 experimental groups: 0.05% (w/w) PowerFeel-supplemented diet (T-1, n = 10); 3% (w/w) SuperFeed-supplemented diet (T-2, n = 10); diluted PowerFeel solution (1 : 500, v/v) as drinking water (T-3, n=9); control (n=10). PowerFeel is an original form of ionized alkali mineral complex (IAMC) and SuperFeed is a commercial product of IAMC. The subpopulation of lymphocyte in blood was assayed by a flow cytometry and HCV-specific antibody was determined by an indirect immunofluorescence assay. In IMAC-treated groups, the proportions of subpopulation expressing MHC-class II, CD2+, CD4+, CD8+, and surface IgM+ B lymphocytes were significantly decreased at 5-weeks after the first vaccination. Significant decreases were also observed in the proportions of MHC-class II, CD2+ and CD8+ lymphocyte at 3-weeks after the booster injection. The humoral immune responses in T-1 and T-2 groups were greater than those in T-3 or control group. These results suggest that IAMC-supplemented diets may have an HCV-specific immunostimulatory effect in pigs.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this project was to suggest guidelines for management of Low grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion(LSIL) by evaluating natural course of LSIL of the uterine cervix. MATERIAL & METHODS: Among the women who visited Korea University Kuro Hospital from Jan. 1993 to Oct. 1998, One hundred fifty eight patients who were diagnosed as LSIL with colposcopy directed biopsy were followed up by colposcopy and/or cytology, HPV DNA test every 3 months. RESULT: In I58 patients who were diagnosed as LSIL, colposcopic examination confirmed progression to high grade intraepithelial lesion(HSIL) in 17(10.7%) patients, persistence of LSIL in 87(55%) patients, regression to normal in 54(34.2%) patients during the 3 year follow-up period. In prediction of LSIL subgroup, abnormal Pap test is 39%, 64%, 71% and abnormal HPV test is l6%, 29%, 65% in regression, persistent and progression group respectively. The shortest time of transition from minor lesion(LSIL) to high grade lesion was 12 months (the range, 12-51). CONCLUSION: Of the patients who were diagnosed as LSIL and monitored by colposcopy for 60 months, 34% had disease that regressed, 55% had persistent disease, and 11% had progressive disease. HPV DNA test(p=0.002) is more informative than pap test(p=0.567) in prediction of disease progression.

We present a case of familial benign chronic pemphigus in 50-year-old male patient who had had recurrent oozing, macerated and eroded skin lesions on the groin and scrotum for 20 years. At first, we diagnosed his case as scrotal eczema and/or intertrigo, but after repeated recurrance, it was confirmed as above disease by characteristic histopathologic findings.

A survey on the prevalence of intestinal parasites was performed during the period from April to June of 1969, to evaluate the present status of parasitic infections in ROK Army soldiers. Stool specimens of 1,0l2 soldiers were collected from a camp located in Won-Ju area, and examined by the method of formalin-ether sedimentation technique. For protozoan cysts, examined slide was stained with Lugol's iodine solution and for eggs of Enterobius, the Graham's scotch cellulose tape anal swab technique was applied. The results obtained in this survey were as follows: Of the 1,012 soldiers examined, 95.0 percent were found infected by one or more intestinal parasites and 28.7 percent were found positive for protozoan cysts. The positive rates of each parasites were; A. lumbricoides 61.0 percent, T. trichiurus 73.4 percent, hookworm 17.5 percent, T. orientalis 9.5 percent, E. vermicularis 0.1 percent (from stool specimen), C. sinensis 8.8 percent, M. yokogawai 1.1 percent, Taenia sp. 1.0 percent (from stool), H. nana 0.3 percent and E. histolytica 7.4 percent. E. coli 12.6 percent, E. nana 5.9 percent, I. buetchlii 0.7 pecent, G. lamblia 6.1 percent, and C. mesnili 0.8 percent. From the anal swabs, eggs of Enterobius were recovered in 2.6 percent, and eggs of Taenia sp. showed positive rate of 1.5 percent.

We present a case of generalized syringoma in a 12-year-old healthy girl. The patient has numerous skin colored or yellowish papules on the face, neck, anterior chest, axillae and abdomen. She has a family history of eyelid syringoma occuring in her mother and maternal grandmother. Diagnosis was confirmed by characteristic histopathologic findings.

Generalized distinct hyperpigrnented macules developed at 2. 7 years after starting photochemotherapy(psoralen and UVA) in a 66-year-old psoriatic male patient. The histopathologic feature of this macule was characterized as a lentiginous p roliferation. The significance and long term course of PUVA lentigo are still unknown. So, we will further monitor this patient continually for melanocytic dysplasias, including melanoma.

In order to elucidate the possibility of diagnosis in soft tissue cysticercosis in case no parasite in it, immunohistochemical staining with antihuman IgG, IgM, and IgA and anticysticercus antibody in tissue section were carried out. Not only the differential counts of infiltrated plasma cells but also the parasite itself against to the anticysticercus antibody were observed. Materials stained immunohistochemically were consisted of 21 soft tissue cysticercosis with or without parasite. The results were as follows: 1) IgG producing plasma cells were most frequent (45.8+/-18.7) and followed by IgM (14.3+/-0.43) and (4.3+/-5.71). Number of IgG plasma cells were more frequently accompanied in the presence of cysticercus (55.9+/-17.7) than in the absence of parasite (39.7+/-17.1). 2) The mean+/-S.D. of plasma cells positive to the anticysticercus antibody were 28.2+/-18.7. And anticysticercus antibody producing plasma cells were more frequent in the presence of cysticercus (49.2+/-5.16) than in the absence of parasite (15.2+/-9.46). 3) Antigenicity of the cysticercus was strong in inner layer(#) followed by tegument(+) and fibrous layer(-). 4) Therefore, it could be suggested that antibody against to the cysticercus is mainly produced by IgG plasma cells and antigenicity of the worm is strong in the inner layer of cyst wall. In addition, there is a possibility of assisting the diagnosis of cysticercosis with anticysticercus antibody by immunohistochemically.
