The study presents the application of STR polymorphisms to male identification in the cases of a serial rapist in Korea. Since October 2000 a rapist from Cheongju city (a town located in central district) committed at least 36 rapes. DNA profiles obtained from semen stains, buccal cells and tongue tissue left at the scenes of crime and vaginal swabs of victims gave information that one and the same man had committed all the rapes. The Y-chromosome haplotype (12 loci) obtained was used for the identification process of rapist in mixed genotypes including victim's alleles. The crime scene data were referred from investigating police authorities described the relationship of victim to the offender, victim's age, time and place of sexual assault and rape locations. The behavioural analysis of crime scenes showed more similarities than differences for related crimes. These components were usually assessed in terms of proximity in time and space. Certain crime scene aspects of a serial rapist help identify components of offender spatial behaviour. As a result of this work, future research on the geography of rape and behavioural aspects of rapist will be directed towards those aspects of offences, which have been identified as relevant to the distance between an offender's base, and the site where he approached his victim.

The purpose of our study is to evaluate the visual, refractive and IOP results following combined small incision phacoemulsification, foldable lens implantation, and fornix based trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C. Seventy-six eyes of 64 patients with cataract and glaucoma had undergone the combined procedure. Minimal follow-up period was 6 months(mean 12.8+/-4.8 months). All the eyes that were free of preexisting macular disease and endstage glaucomatous optic nerve damage demonstated significant improvement in visual acuity. Postoperative astigmatisn was negligible(-0.41diopters). The average IOP reduction was 7.7mmHg. Functioning filtrating bleb persisted in 76.3% of the eyes. Complications with this method were not significant compared with other studies reporting the combined procedure. The small incison phacotrabeculectomy with mitomycin-C technique that we describe appears to be effective in early restoration of visual acuity and reduction of IOP without significant complications.

We report a case of epidermolysis bullosa simplex occurred in a 12-year-old girl, who presented with intractable bullous lesions of the hands and feet after minor traumas ever since her early neonatal period. The bullous lesions were noted on the 2nd and 4th webs of the fingers and dorsum of the hands as well as on the skin of the ankle. The lesions were healed without scar formation. Family history was not contributary and seasonal pattern was not noted. Histologic sections revealed intraepidermal bullae just above the well preserved basement membrane. Electron microscopic findings revealed cytolysis of basal cells with preservation of the basement membrane, indicating the epidermal type of epidermolysis bullosa simplex.

Ketamine hydrochloride is a unique dissociative anesthetic agent that has been used in children for more than 20 years. Ketamine is devoid of sedation and hypnotic properties but has profound analgesic and amnesic characteristics even in low doses. It is recommended to use with benzodiazepines for the alleviation of ketamine-induced emergence reaction and with anticholinergic agent for the antisialogogue affect. We used the intramuscular ketamine, midazolam, and glycopyrrolate in thirty pediatric patients who were uncontrolled by conventional behaviour management in the OPD of Chungbuk National University Hospital Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Emergency Room. The results were as follows: 1. 20 males and 10 females were involved and the average age was 3 years(range, 19 months to 6 years). 2. The anesthetic technique was used for the following reasons: 10 for the I & D of submandibular abscess, 2 for the post operative wound care of cleft lip, and 4 for the other causes. 3. Average onset time of anesthesia was 5.1 minutes(range, 2 to 10 minutes) and average working time was 26 minutes(range, 12 to 50 minutes). 4. 24(80%) of 30 children were rated as 'Cooperative of sleeping' within an average 4.8, and the other children(20%) were rated as 'Intermittent crying or fighting'. 5. Emesis occurred during the recovery period in 2 children, but there was no airway compromise or aspiration. Other side effects were a transient rash(10%), and random movement(7%). 6. The recovery room behavior was quite and uneventful in 23(77%) children and mild agitation in 7(23%) ones.

Uterine prolapse with pregnancy is rare condition. The overall incidence is 1/10000- 15000 deliveries. The complications from uterine prolapse range from minor cervical ulceration and infection to fetal death or uterine rupture. The fetal mortality was as high as 22% mainly due to prematurity, respiratory infection. The management of this condition is focused on preventing late occurrence of prolapse during pregnancy and continued reduction. We present a case of uterine prolapse in pregnancy with a brief review of the literature.
