Objective:To compare the shear bonding strength between two kinds of veneering ceramics respectively bonded to Vita Mark II.Methods:Vita Mark II samples were prepaired in the size of 8 mm ×6 mm ×2 mm.Veneering ceramic VM9 and Titankeram-ik were sintered on the Vita Mark II blocks respectively(n =1 0).The shear bond strength of each specimen was measured,the failure mode of the fracture surface was observed by SEM.The element in the bonding interface was analysed by field emission scanning elec-tron microscope(FE-SEM).Results:The values of shear bond strength (MPa)of VM9 and Titankeramik groups were 36.1 7 ±8.91 and 42.07 ±8.31 respectively(P >0.05).SEM observation showed tight bond between the two materials,FE-SEM results showed penetration of Al element from MarkⅡblock into veneering porcelain VM9 or Titankeramik.Conclusion:Veneered porcelain of VM9 and Titankeramik can be used as the individual veneering ceramics for Vita Mark II blocs.

PURPOSE: Endothelin-1(ET-1) is a potent vasoconstrictor peptide. It has potent contractile and proliferative effects on vascular smooth muscle cells. Congenital heart diseases are often accompanied by pulmonary hypertension, and the severity of pulmonary hypertension is important in the prognosis. The aim of this study was to elucidate changes of ET-1 after pulmonary venous stenosis in a dog model, and investigate the interaction between pulmonary venous pressure and ET-1. METHODS: Plasma ET-1 levels were measured by radioimmuno-assay at the thoracic aorta, left pulmonary artery and left pulmonary vein. Pressures were also monitored at the same sites. Immunohistochemical staining of ET-1 was performed in the lung tissue. RESULTS: Increased serum ET-1 levels were noted at 1 hour after left pulmonary vein stenosis in the left pulmonary vein and aorta, and at 2 days after stenosis in the left pulmonary artery. Left pulmonary venous pressure was significantly increased at 1 hour after pulmonary vein stenosis, and systolic pulmonary artery pressure at 2 days after stenosis. Increased expression of ET-1 was noted by immunohistochemical staining at the lung tissue at 7 days after stenosis of left pulmonary vein. CONCLUSION: Increased serum ET-1 level and expression of ET-1 in immunohistochemical staining at lung tissue were noted after stenosis of pulmonary vein. Serum ET-1 level would be useful in the diagnosis and prediction of pulmonary artery hypertension. (J Korean Pediatr Soc 2000;43:769 778)

BACKGROUND: Beat-to-beat heart rate variability (HRV) is caused by the fluctuating balance of sympathetic and parasympathetic tone. Analysis of heart rate variations may provide important clinical information and the influence of anesthesia on the autonomic nervous system. METHODS: We studied 18 ASA I female patients undergoing propofol-O2-N2O anesthesia for transabdominal hysterectomy and analyzed the HRV using power spectral analysis (PSA) at preinduction period, 2~5 minutes after induction, and 30~33 minutes after skin incision. RESULTS: The powers in all frequency bands decreased, but the decrease in low+middle frequency power was less than that in high frequency power during 2~5 minutes after induction. At 30~33 minutes after skin incision, all frequency bands and ratio of low middle/high frequency power spectra recovered and were not significantly different from those of before induction. CONCLUSIONS: Propofol-N2O-O2 anesthesia depress autonomic nervous system with relative preservation of sympathetic components. However autonomic nervous system and sympathetic/parasympathetic balance during operation recovered to the pre-anesthetic pattern, probably due to surgical stimuli and stress.
