Journal of Chinese Physician 2001;0(04):-
Objective To assess the value of thinprep liquid based cytology test (TCT) and Besthesda system (TBS) in diagnosis of cervial lesions. Methods 11000 cases of cervical lesions were detected with TCT and TBS.The samples of atypical squamous cells(ASC) and more severe than ASC lesions were classified into postive cytology, and then cytological results were compared with pathological examination results of cervical biopsies. Results The satisfactory rate of TCT samples was 96.36%, and the postive rate of abnormal epithelial cells diagnosed by TCT was 10.96%(1206/11000). Among 1206 cases, 15 cases(0.14%) of CA, 89 cases (0.81%) of HSIL, 449 cases (4.08%) of LSIL, 73 cases (0.66%) of ASC-H and 580 cases (5.27%) of ASC-US and AGUS. 1128 cases with postive cytologic results received pathological examination. The pathological positive rate of CA, HSIL, LSIL, ASC-H, and ASC-US and AGUS were 100%, 100%, 67.12%, 54.17% and 14.09%, respectively. The coincident rate of two examination methods was 100% for CA, 91.1% for HSIL,57.82% for LSIL and 27.78% for ASC-H. Conclusion TCT and TBS can accurately detect cervical cancer, precancerous lesions and infection of bacteria, virus and other pathogens, and at present is a means of screening cervical cancer.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 1988;0(06):-
Objective To investigate the radioprotective effect of genistein (GEN) on murine bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). Methods Adult male mice were administered orally with GEN at 24 h prior to 6.0 Gy gamma irradiation. The number of CFU-F, the adherent capability of bone marrow cells (BMCs) to BMSCs adherence layer, and the expressions of cell adhesion molecules including vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), fibronectin (Fn), and laminin (Ln) on BMSCs cultured in vitro were detected, respectively. Results The number of CFU-F, the adherent capability, the expressions of VCAM-1, Fn, and Ln on BMSCs cultured in vitro in GEN-pretreated mice were higher and recovered more rapidly than those in mice without GEN-pretreatment. Light microscopy revealed that there was no significant difference in morphology of BMSCs in both groups after irradiation injury. Conclusion These observations suggest that radioprotective properties associated with GEN are largely a consequence of the reduction of damage, the induction of cell proliferation, and the promotion of adherent capability recovery in recipient mice. These changes may ultimately ameliorate bone marrow microenvironment and therefore accelerate the rebuilding of hematopoietic system after irradiation injury.

Objective To explorer the clinical therapeutic effects of applying hyperbaric oxygen drenching(HOD) combined with microsurgical technique on peripheral nerve injuries induced in plateau military training. Methods Forty-one hospitalized patients(52 nerves) with peripheral nerve injuries induced in plateau military training from Jan.2000 to Dec.2007 were randomly divided into treatment group(21 patients,27 nerves injured) and control group(20 patients,25 nerves injured).Microsurgery and postoperative HOD treatment were performed to the patients in treatment group, only microsurgery was performed to the patients in the control group. The restorative procedures for injured nerves were adopted with direct end-to-end suture or sural nerve autograft according to the degree of injury. The recovery of nerve function was assessed and compared between the two groups. Results All patients were followed up for a mean period of 18 months(ranged 6-30 months) after operations. The recovery of nerve function was assessed according to the single nerve functional evaluation criteria. In treatment group, the excellent and fine results were obtained in 7 and 16 nerves, the fineness rate was 85.2%;while in control group, the excellent and fine results were obtained in 2 and 11 nerves, the fineness rate was 52.0%,a significant difference existed on the fineness rate between the two groups(?2=6.71,P
7.Radiologic Analysis of Tuberculous Spondylitis.
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1986;3(1):95-102
Among the skeletal tuberculous spondylitis is high incidence and curable disease, if early diagnosis and treatment are possible. We reviewed clinical manifestations and radiologic analysis of 30 cases tuberculous spondylitis from May 1983 to Sept. 1986, at Yeungnam medical center, Yeungnam University. The results were follows: 1. The frequent involve sites were thoracolumbar vertebra. 2. The continuous lesion is 86.7% of the all cases. 3. The most common type was intervertebral type, and lytic and sclerotic lesion were same incidence. 4. Paravertebral abscess, kyphosis and disc space narrowing were demonstrated more than 80.0% of the cases. 5. Computed tomography was more accurate diagnostic method rather than conventional plain study to evaluation of extent of lesion, involvement of spinal canal and cord, and size and location of paravertebral abscess. And CT guided abscess drainage procedure was helpful to diagnosis and treatment. 6. Ultrasonography was helpful to differential diagnosis between paravertebral abscess and other solid mass, and useful to follow up study of paravertebral abscess after treatment.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1993;27(3):256-262
Dedifferentiated chordoma is a rare pathologic entity presenting an additional sarcomatous component in otherwise classical chordoma. It has been also emphasized that this neoplasm is classified as a distinct entity because of its different clinical settings and aggressive behavior. Dedifferentiation is a peculiar phenomenon but its histogenesis has remained controversial. A 50-yera-old man developed a huge tumor mass in the retrorectal, presacral area, featured with two histological components. The one was a typical chordoma accounted for approximately 60% of the mass and the other was made up of highly cellular, plemorphic, undifferentiated tumor cells, reminiscent partly to the cells of plemorphic malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Ultrastructural features and immunoreactivity against cytokeratin, S-100 protein and alpha-1-antichymotrypsin in both portions support that histologically different components of this neoplasm derive from the same origin. To our knowledge, this is the first case of dedifferentiated chordoma in Korea.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(6):601-604
Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a recently described vascular neoplasm characterized by epitheloiod endothelial linings and its borderline biologic behavior. We report a case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma in a 6-year-old male. The tumor was presented as a non-tender dermal nodule on the left middle finger. The microscopic sections revealed irregular proliferation of vascular channels lined by epithelioid cells with histiocytoid features and frequent intracytoplasmic vacuoles, mimicking so called signet ring cells. Immunohistochemical stainings for factor VIII and vimentin were positive both in epithelioid and vacuolated endothelial cell. Electron microscopic finding reveals abundant intermediate filaments.
