1.Prospects for dengue vaccines for travelers.

Travel-acquired dengue cases have been increasing as the overall global dengue burden has expanded. In Korea, imported dengue cases have been reported since 2000 when it first became a notifiable disease. During the first four months of 2016, three times more dengue cases were reported in Korea than during the same period the previous year. A safe and efficacious vaccine for travelers would be beneficial to prevent dengue disease in individual travelers and potentially decrease the risk of virus spread to non-endemic areas. Here, we summarize the characteristics of dengue vaccines for travelers and review dengue vaccines currently licensed or in clinical development.

3.Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease: Histopathologic, Electron Microscopic and Immunohistochemical Studies of 2 Cases.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease(CJD) is characterized clinically by rapidly progressive dementia with pyramidal, extrapyramidal, and cerebellar symptoms and signs, and histologically by spongiform change, neuronal loss and reactive gliosis. We have experienced 2 cases of CJD. Case 1 was a 36-year-old male who had suffered from myoclonus and cerebellar symptoms including sluggish speech, gait and balance disturbance. Case 2 was a 70-year-old female who had showed cognitive dysfunction, ataxic gait and disturbance of extraocular movement. Both patients, underwent brain biopsy. Case 1 revealed marked cortical atrophy, 2mm in thickness, with neuronal loss and astrocytic proliferation extending into white matter. The spongiform change, made up of many small, usually rounded or oval, vacuoles was noted mainly in the neuropil. Case 2 revealed remarkable spongiform change throughout the cortex and cytoplasmic vacuoles compressing the nuclei of neuronal cells were numerous. Neuronal loss and gliosis were also found without considerable change in the white matter. On double immunostaining against GFAP and PrP(Prion Protein), there was a weak positive reaction for PrP in the perinuclear cytoplasm in case 1, and a strongly positive reaction in case 2. The electron microscopic examination showed numerous membrane-bound vacuoles in neuropil and perikarya of neurons. The majority of the vacuoles were multiseptated by thin membranous structures. They demonstrated curled, or disrupted membrane, that had foldings and protrusions into the vacuolar clear spaces. There were neither identifiable virus-like particles nor amyloid deposition.

5.A Study on the chemotherapy in clonorchiasis. Report 1. An experimental study on chemotherapy with Dithiazanine iodide and Bithionol sulfoxide in clonorchiasis.

Authors carried out experimental study on chemotherapy with oral administration of Dithiazanine iodide (D.I.) and Bithionol sulfoxide(B.S.) in rabbit clonorchiasis. And the following result was obtained. In change of the E.P.G (eggs per gram feces) by D.I. administration, it was rather increased in early stage of the administration than prior to administration, and thereafter decreased gradually. In the change of the C.S. worm body by D.I. administration, there was not only prominent change of supporting tissue but also the change of reproductive organ was found. In considering the wormicidal effect of D.I. from detecting rate of survival worms, the effect was slight in group of 100 mg(80 mg/kg) per day dosage, but the effects were very excellent and almost complete by proper times of administration in groups of 200 mg (130 mg/kg) per day or higher dosage. But the side effect and intoxication sign of D.I. were appearent in groups of 200 mg or higher dosage. By B.S. administration, E.P.G. was decreased gradually. In changes of the C.S. worm body by B.S. administration, prominent inhibitory chnnge was seen in egg formation ability. Slight wormicidal effect of B.S. was observed in groups of 140 mg (100 mg/kg) per day or higher dosage. Side effect and intoxication sign of B.S. were found little in groups of 140 mg or lesser dosage.

6.A study of the facial cleft and case report of facial cleft patient.

Facial cleft is not a common anomaly of craniofacial region. But it is often accompanied with cleft lip and/or palate, so it seems important to orthodontist. Facial cleft is defined as a fissure or elongated opening of the facial region, and it's etiology is the failure of the fusion of the parts which will form the face in embryonic developmental period. Facial cleft can be classified according to the time of occurrence and the area involved during developmental period. It develops 1-2.5 weeks earlier than cleft lip and/or cleft palate. In facial cleft, the deformity is generally confined to the facial region, but sometimes deformity of other body region can accompany. The interaction of the facial cleft and the genetic anomaly is not confirmed, but genetic anomaly is known to be able to occur in the patient with other anomaly of body. As an orthodontist we should know the general considerations of facial cleft and it's treatment procedures other than orthodontic treatment.

7.An experimental study on the vascular changes of rat molar periodontal ligament following orthodontic tooth movement using vascular corrosion casting method.

This study was undertaken to investigate the three dimensional vascular changes of periodontal ligament following orthodontic tooth movement. Experimental tooth movement was carried out in 96 Sprague-Dawley rats with the weight of 250g. They were divided into four experimental groups (each 24 rats). The left maxillary first molar was moved mesially with 25g force in group I, and with 75g force in group II. Each three animals were sacrificed after 1, 6, 12, 24 hours, and 3, 7, 14, 21 days. In group III, 25g mesial force was applied for 3 days, and in group IV, 75g mesial force was applied for 3 days. Then the appliances were removed, and each three animals were sacrificed after 1, 6, 12, 24 hours, and 3, 7, 14, 21 days from removal of appliance. The contralateral molars were used for control group. Casting media was injected via left ventricle and polymerized in warm water. After corrosion of surrounding soft tissue, three dimensional vascular changes were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. Pressure side of group I and II showed degenerative vascular changes such as vascular compression, reduction of vasculature, leakage of casting media. But, regenerative changes were dominant after 7 days of tooth movement. Although the degenerative vascular changes were more severe in group II, which was exposed to heavy force, the timing of these changes was not different between two groups. 2. Periodontal vasculature was reestablished by the growth of new capillaries and their differentiation and union from the remaining periodontal vessels and vessels of alveolar bone marrow. Although vascular regeneration was more rapid in group I, which was exposed to light force, the vasculature was not fully normalized in both groups even after 21 days. 3. There was no remarkable changes in tension side of group I and II, but looping of capillary, new capillary growth, dilation of vessels, redirection of vessels in the direction of tensile force were occurred. 4. In pressure side of group III and IV, in which appliance was removed after 3 days of orthodontic force, bone resorption was continued even after removal of appliance. Regeneration of vasculature was initiated after 1-6 hours, and it was more rapid in group III than group IV. In both groups, the vasculature was not fully normalized even after 21 days. 5. After removal of appliance, tension side of group III and IV showed vascular compression and loss of vasculature.

8.Notes on Species of the Laboulbeniales from Yunnan Province of China.

Six species of the genus Laboulbenia were collected from some regions of Yunnan Province, China, in July, 1994. They are as follows; Laboulbenia acupapi Spegazzini was collected on Abacetus submetallicus (Nietner) and Stenolophus iridicolor Redtenbacher. The host of this fungus has been only found on genus Acupalpus in the world so far, but it was newly found on genus Abacetus and Stenolophus. Laboulbenia anoplogenii Thaxter subsp. abaceti Santamaria was collected on Abacetus submetallicus (Nietner). Laboulbenia elaphri Spegazzini was collected on Nebria ochotica Sahlberg, but the host of this fungus has been only found on genus Elaphrus in the world so far. It was newly collected on genus Nebria. Laboulnebia flagellata Peyritsch was collected on Harpalus platynotus Bates and Platynus sculptipes (Bates). Laboulbenia polyphaga Thaxter was collected on Harpalus bungii Chaudoir. Laboulbenia vulgaris Peyritsch was collected on Bembidion misellum Harold and Bembidon scopulium (Kirby).

10.Eruption failure of teeth.

The purpose of this study was to present the causes and their mechanisms of eruption failure of teeth and to investigate the treatment modalities. There are so many reports about eruption failure, but most of them are dealing with mechanical interferences. But, we have patients suffered from eruption failure of another causes. Many developmental failures show eruption problems of teeth, although in some cases, the primary failure of eruption (failure of the eruption mechanism itself) can be the primary cause. We have to know about the causes, differences, and the treatment modalities for those abnormalities.
