This study was performed to see whether neurobehavioral tests was affected by the exposure-free time in the workers chronically exposed to organic solvents. Thirty-four female workers were participated and four items among neurobehavioral core test battery of World Health Organization, including digit span, Santa Ana Dexterity, digit symbol, Benton Visual Retention, were administered to the workers. Test was conducted three times-preshift on Monday, preshift on Weekday and during shift on Weekday-per person and the interval of tests was 2 weeks. Digit span forward, Santa Ana Dexterity, digit symbol, and Benton Visual Retention showed significant decrements by performing time, especially during shift on Weekday versus preshift on Monday and preshift on Weekday. In addition, the score at preshift on Weekday was significantly lower than preshift on Monday, in preferred Santa Ana Dexterity and digit symbol. Generally, those who were exposed to high concentration, over 50 years and under 6 years of education showed marked decrease of score at during shift. So, it would be desirable that neurobehavioral test is conducted at preshift on Monday and items related to short term memory could be considerable to be done at preshift on Weekday.

A case of a symptomatic spinal extradural meningeal cyst (SEMC) in Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is introduced. A 38-year-old woman presented with right L2 radiculopathy. She underwent operations for varicose veins in both her lower extremities. She had port-wine nevi on her trunk and extremities. The edematous change in both legs had waxed and waned. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an 11.8x13 mm extradural meningeal cyst growing through the intervertebral foramen in L2-3. Multiple meningeal cysts were located in the dorsal aspect of the spinal cord from T3 to T10. A 5.8x6.2 mm cyst was also found in left pleural cavity. The extradural meningeal cyst was completely excised and the preoperative symptom was improved. KTS is a congenital disorder due to a mesodermal abnormality, which may predispose the dura to weakness. The SEMC may occur through the dural defect or weakened point.

OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to evaluate relationship of burdened work and musculoskeletal symptoms in small-to-medium sized enterprises. METHOD: After a questionnaire survey was administered to 9,950 workers in 122 workplace, 7,626 workers(76.6%) were finally selected for the study analysis. Industrial hygienists visited 122 small-to-medium sized enterprises to investigate the presence of burdened works within the workplace. The selection of jobs with significant burden was based on the Ministry of Labor's recent notification in 11 types of job description associated with musculoskeletal disorders. The subjects of this study were then divided into three categories. 1) non-burdened white collar workers, 2) non-burdened blue collar workers, and 3) burdened workers (include some VDT workers). Multiple logistic regression was used to evaluate the relationship between burdened work and musculoskeletal symptoms. RESULTS: The burdened workers reported significantly more musculoskeletal symptoms than non-burdened white collar workers and non-burdened blue collar workers(OR:1.57, 95% CI: 1.314-1.875). There was no significant difference in reports of musculoskeletal symptoms between non-burdened white and blue collar workers. CONCLUSION: To prevent or diminish musculoskeletal disorders in small-to-medium sized enterprises, we need to better manage burdened works.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether serum creatinine levels at 3 days after renal transplantation can predict long-term graft survival and its associated clinical aspects. METHODS: Three hundred and seventy six renal transplant recipients who received grafts from living donors were included. Recipients were classified into two groups according to their serum creatinine levels (1.2 mg/dL group) at 3 days after renal transplantations. Demographic characteristics (age, sex, weight, body mass index, donor/recipient body weight ratio, pre-transplant dialysis type, underlying disease and pre-transplant transfusion), transplant variables (immuno-suppressive agents, HLA mismatch and HLA DR mismatch) and post-transplant variables (routine graft biopsy, number of acute rejection episodes within first year after renal transplantation, serum creatinine level and graft survival at each first, second, and fifth years) were assessed. RESULTS: Among total 376 recipients, serum creatinine 1.2 mg/dL groups were 224 (59.6%) recipients. The characteristics of patients with good graft function (serum creatinine 1.2 mg/dL group (first year, 100% vs. 95.7%; fifth year, 96.7% vs. 89.8%; P<0.05). Conclusion: Serum creatinine levels at 3 days after renal transplantation can predict long-term kidney transplant survival. It was associated with immunological (frequency of acute rejection) and non- immunological aspect (match of kidney size and donor's age).
