Korean Journal of Dermatology 1971;9(2):31-34
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a rare disease which represents a chronic suppurative and scarring process, affecting the apocrine glands due to persistent bacterial infection and apocrine dysfunction. We have experienced a case of hidradenitis suppurativa, 22-year-old female which involved both axillary region. Diagnosis was established by clinical characteristicsymptoms, histopathological findings and bacteriological examinations.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1985;21(5):826-833
Ultrasonographic and radiographic findings in 72 cases of pelvic masses which have been provedhistopathologically were analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. Among 72 cases, 28 cases were uterine massesand 44 cases were adnexal masses. 2. Pathologic accuracies of ultrasonographic diagnosis were 64.3% in uterinemasses, 70.5% in adnexal masses, and 68.1% in all pelvic masses. 3. Plain or IVP findings were not specific indiagnosis and showed secondary mass effects or functional disturbances. 4. Because of its high accuracy ofpathologic diagnosis and safety, ultrasonography can be regared as the most valuable and preferential study. Butin cases of cystic myomas, endometrioses, cystic missed abortions and huge masses, the accurate diagnoses weredifficult.

Investigations of the anti-tumor activity of recombinant mouse TNF and etoposide(VP-16) in a nude mouse subcutaneous implantation xenograft model utilizing the CURC-1 human renal cell carcinoma cell line were performed. Recombinant mouse tumor necrosis factor-alpha(rTNF-alpha) and VP-16. both well known cytotoxic and cytostatic anticancer agents were evaluated singly and in combination against subcutaneously growing CURC-1. The results were as follows : 1. In the absence of treatment(Group I). subcutaneously growing CURC-1 tumor nodules demonstrated continued rapid growth. 2. Administration of rTNF(Group II) induced significant tumor regression in the subcutaneous nodules. 3. Administration of rTNF and Etoposide(Group III) demonstrated significant tumor growth inhibition. On histopathological findings, Group I (control) shows rare leukocyte infiltration and no tumor necrosis. In contrast, Group II shows tumor necrosis and more leukocyte infiltration than Group I . Group III demonstrates tumor necrosis. tumor cell degeneration and more leukocyte infiltration than Group II. These results suggest that TNF have antineoplastic effect against subcutaneous human renal cell carcinoma nodule but the synergistic effect of TNF with VP-l6 is uncertain.

Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1999;34(4):337-345
Sequence information from the ribosomal RNA molecule can be used as a molecular clock. Therefore, 16S rRNA sequences have become a widely used tool in bacterial systematics, bacterial typing and studies of the composition of micro-organisms in environmental samples. Consequently, the databases are continuously updated with new 16S rRNA sequence information from different species. This in turn facilitates the identification of new isolates, which is important for the diagnosis of various infectious diseases in research. To development differential identification technique in the Yersinia species, the 16S rDNA for total 17 serotypes of Y. pseudotuberculosis type strains and one of Y. enterocolitica wild strain were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and cloned into pGEM-T vector, partially sequenced and analyzed. The 16S rDNA nucleotide sequence homologies among Yersinia strains were ranged 100% to 93.6%. Phylogenetic tree generated from 16S rDNA sequencing data showed different phyletic line that could be readily separated from each serotypes and other enteric bacterium.

Prediction f chemical composition of gallstones is a prerequisite in contemplating the chemical dissolution or extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy of gallstones. The author retrospectively analysed the correlation between quantitative chemical composition of gallstones and their ultrasonographic and computed tomographic findings. The ultrasonography(US) and computed tomography(CT) of 100 consecutive stones obtained from 100 patients were performed under the in vitro condition. Their US and CT fingings were grouped with certain patterns and each group was compared with the chemical composition of the stones. Stones with entirely discernible cirumsference and homogeneous internal echo on US had high bilirubin and low cholesterol content. Acoustic shadows were frequently absent with those stones. Stones with variable internal echo on US had relatively high cholesterol content but their distribution range were wide. There was no correlationship between the cholesterol content and the CT No. of the gallstones. There was positive correlationship between the calcium content and the CT No. of gallstones. The near totally calcified gallstones had very low cholesterol and high residue content. There was no relationship betweenthe calcification type and the ultrasonographic pattern. In conclusion, those stones with entirely discernible circumsference and homogeneous internal echo on US were pigment stones. On the contrary, stones with variable internal echo had relatively high cholesterol content. CT could predict the calcium content with CT No., but could not predict the cholesterol content.

Dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria was reported in 1933 by Ichikawa and Hiraga in Japan. This disease is characterized by small pigmented and depigmented mottled macules on the trunk and extremities. We report two cases of dyschromatosis universalis. Case one is a 47-year-old man presented with hypoand hyperpigmented spots on the trunk and extrexities. At about 30 years of age, he started to show pigmentary changes on the back, which became progressively spread to the other parts of the trunk and extremities. Case two is a 27-year-old man with numerous mottled hypo-and hyperpigmented spots on the trunk and extremities. He started to show pigmentary changes on the back about 12 years ago. This pigmentary changes also became progressively spread to the other part of the trunk and extrimities. There were no family history of similar disease. On physical exminations, both patients had hrown rice-grain sized pigmented and depigmented macules without scales and atropy on the trunk and extremites. Fontana-Masson stains revealed decreased and increased melar in granules in the basal cell layers in the hypopigrnented and hyperpigmented lesions respectively.
