One-and-a-half syndrome with facial diplegia, also referred to as the fifteen-and-a-half syndrome, is an
extremely rare clinical entity caused by involvement of bilateral tegmentum of pons. Herein, we report
a 52-year-old male who presented with one-and-a-half syndrome with left facial paralysis, which was
consistent with the so-called eight-and-a-half syndrome. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed
pontine infarction. Five days after initiation of antiplatelet therapy, the patient developed right facial
paralysis, a diagnosis of fifteen-and-a-half syndrome was made, repeat MR imaging revealed bilateral
pontine tegmentum infarction. Fifteen-and-a-half syndrome is a newly proposed concept associated
with pontine infarction. The clinicoradiological features of this specific disease are as yet unclear due
to its extreme rarity. The current case would help advance the current understanding of the disease
spectrum of pontine infarction.

China Oncology 2016;26(2):145-150
Background and purpose:Thermal ablation (radiofrequency ablation, RFA/microwave ablation, MWA) is the most commonly used minimally invasive technique for the treatment of liver cancer. Real-time shear wave elastography (SWE) is a new type of ultrasonic imaging technology, which was used in our study to monitor thermal ablation of liver cancer. This study aimed to investigate the stiffness change of liver cancer and that of surrounding liver parenchyma before and after thermal ablation, and to evaluate the application of SWE for monitoring thermal ablation for liver cancer. Methods:From Oct. 2014 to Apr. 2015, a total number of 36 patients, with 39 lesions, were treated with RFA or MWA and got complete response. SWE examination was performed before and after ablation. The SWE-mean, SWE-min, SWE-max, SWE-SD of lesions and the surrounding liver parenchyma were measured. Statistical analysis was made to compare the stiffness changes of liver cancer with those of the surrounding liver parenchyma before and after thermal ablation, and to determine whether there were differences between two different ablation modes. Results:Before and after ablation, the SWE-mean of lesions was (30.09±11.67) kPavs (52.11±17.56) kPa,SWE-min was (10.46±8.22) kPavs (20.57±11.42) kPa, SWE-max was (51.50±20.84) kPavs (88.54±27.75) kPa, SWE-SD was (10.63±4.30) kPavs (16.89±7.72) kPa; There were statistically signiifcant differences (P<0.05). Before and after ablation, the SWE-mean of surrounding liver parenchyma was (8.84±2.82) kPavs (8.91±2.78) kPa, SWE-min was (4.77±1.95) kPavs (4.69±1.90) kPa, SWE-max was (13.82±3.79) kPavs (14.34±3.97) kPa, SWE-SD was (3.24±1.32) kPavs (3.37±1.29) kPa; There were no statistically signiifcant differences (P>0.05). After ablation, the SWE-mean of RFA and MWA was (45.55±10.91) kPavs (60.59±20.99) kPa, SWE-min was (18.95±8.86) kPavs (25.93±10.93) kPa, SWE-max was (76.58±15.51) kPavs (104.01±32.59) kPa, SWE-SD was (13.82±3.52) kPavs (20.85±9.77) kPa; There were statistically signiifcant differences (P<0.05).Conclusion:SWE can quantitively analyze the stiffness of lesions. The ablation zone became stiffer after RFA or MWA, and the ablation zone of MWA was stiffer than that of RFA. Two kinds of ablation methods did not signiifcantly affect the stiffness of liver parenchyma around the lesion. SWE could potentially be used to monitor thermal ablation of liver cancer.

Objective To investigate the spatiotemporal expression patterns of transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) receptors type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ and their relationships with development of outflow tract(OFT) in mouse embryonic heart. Methods Serial sections of mouse embryos from embryonic day 9 (E9d) to embryonic day 14 (E14d) were stained using PAP immunohistochemical methods. Results Expressions of TGF-β receptors type Ⅰ (TGF-βRⅠ) and type II(TGF-βRⅡ) in the myocardial wall of OFT started at E10d, reached the reflection with splanchnic epithelium on the dorsal wall of the pericardial cavity at E11d. At E12d, expression intensity of TGF-βRⅠ and TGF-βRⅡ in myocardium increased to its highest level, and TGF-βRⅡ positive mesenchymal cells in OFT ridges could be detected. After E13d the staining intensity of TGF-βRⅠ and TGF-βRⅡ decreased rapidly, and at E14d,their expressions had fallen at the lowest. Conclusion The expressions of TGF-βRⅠ and TGF-βRⅡ in OFT are confined to the period of E10d to E14d, they may play important roles in regulating the myocardial cell proliferation, remodeling and septation of OFT, and promoting the differentiation from mesenchymal cells in the secondary heart field into smooth muscle cells in the distal end of OFT.

Chinese Journal of Schistosomiasis Control 2016;28(3):237-240,326
Objective To evaluate the molluscicidal effect of niclosamide ethanolamine salt powder?granula(PG)against Oncomelania hupensis. Methods The molluscicidal experiment was carried out by the dusting method with niclosamide etha?nolamine salt 4%PG. The experiments were respectively done in the laboratory and the tidal flats wetlands. At the same time , the niclosamide ethanolamine salt 4%dustable powder(DP)was as the control group. The single blind method was used for the quality control. The corrected mortality and the median lethal concentration(LC50)were compared between PG and DP in the molluscicidal experiment of the laboratory. The corrected mortality and the reduced rate of snails’density were compared be?tween PG and DP in the tidal flats wetlands. Results The mortality rates of the snails were 96.67%and 100%respectively on 1 d after dusting 4.0 g/m2 of 4% PG and 2.0 g/m2 of 4% DP in the laboratory. The results showed that the mortality rates of the snails were higher with 4%DP than 4%PG in each dosage(t1 d=3.60,P<0.01). The LC50(s) of 1d,3 d,7 d after dusting the molluscicide also showed that the molluscicidal effects of DP were better than PG. The corrected mortality rates were 91.71%, 92.91%,90.57%,85.33%and 71.09%,90.11%,90.13%,85.26%on 3 d,7 d,15 d,30 d after dusting with 4%PG and 4%DP,respectively,in the fields. Statistics showed that the mortality rates of snails were higher on 3 d,7 d after dusting with PG than DP(c23 d=731.57,c27 d=25.90,P<0.01),but there were no significant differences between PG and DP on 15d,30d af?ter dusting(c215 d=0.53,c230 d=0.01,P>0.05). Conclusions 4%PG has both the adsorption of powder and the penetrability of the granules. The molluscicidal effects of 4%PG and 4%DP are almost the same. However, the drift of the powder was still not effectively controlled. This problem need to be further studied.
