Objective To investigate the relationship between serum levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) and the mortality in patients with malignant middle cerebral artery infarction.Methods A total of 74 patients with malignant middle cerebral artery infarction (MMCAI) was assigned to research group,74 healthy volunteers were recruited to serve as healthy controls,and 242 patients with other cerebral infarction were recruited to serve as case controls.Quality-of-life questionnaire and clinical examination were used to collect the information of participants.Endpoint was 30-day mortality.Results The research group showed higher serum levels of MMP-9,MMP-10,and TIMP-1 relative to the case control group,and the case control group showed higher serum levels of MMP-9,MMP-10,and TIMP-1 relative to the healthy control group (P ＜ 0.05).Compared to survivor ones,non-surviving MMCAI patients showed lower Glasgow Coma Scale score (P ＜ 0.05),higher serum levels of tumor necrosis factorα (TNF-α),MMP-9,MMP-10,and TIMP-1 (P ＜ 0.05).Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that serum levels of TNF-α,MMP-9,MMP-10,and TIMP-1 were associated with 30-day mortality,and the OR were 1.09,1.18,1.13,and 1.32,respectively.Conclusions Serum levels of MMP-9,MMP-10,and TIMP-1 levels in MMCAI patients were associated with mortality,and could be used as an auxiliary index of mortality in MMCAI patients.

AIM: To observe the effect of compound clindamycin liniment on acne vulgaris. 　METHODS: A multi-centre, open-label trial of compound clindamycin liniment in treating acne vulgaris. One hundred and fifty-three patients used compound clindamycin liniment on face three times per day for 4 wk.　RESULTS: The total excellent response rate was 83.0%. The total effect rate on pustule and papule was 96.1% and 80.7% respectively. The adverse reaction rate was 1.9%.　CONCLUSION: Compound clindamycin liniment is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV-1)V3 loop amino acid mutations among AIDS patients in Shenzhen. Methods Fragments of HIV-1 env gene were amplified by RT-nested-polymerase chain reaction(PCR)from plasma of the AIDS patients in Shenzhen.The PCR products were then directly sequenced and the sequences were aligned,translated and analyzed. Results Sequence analysis showed that there were B and CRF01-AE HIV-1 subtypes in Shenzhen.The V3 loop terra peptide GPGQ accounted for about 48%,GPGR about 36%,other V3 loop terra peptide forms were 16%;the V3 loop central motif in the majority(76.9%)of the CRF01-AE strains was GPGQ,the majority(75%)of the B strains was GPGR.We also found some unusual terra peptide compositions:DQDR and DQGQ on the tip of V3 loop,some amino acid mutations at specific of V3 loop associated with SI phenotype were very common in AIDS patients(80%). Conclusions The V3 loop amino acid mutations were very common in AIDS patients,the V3 loop central motif in the majority was GPGQ and GPGR in Shenzhen,the mutations shows the change of HIV-1 phenotype and predicts that disease progress to AIDS.

Background and purpose: Plumbagin is the main active components of traditional Chinese medicine of plumbago zeylanica. The present studies show that plumbagin has a killing effect on tumor cells. This study aimed to investigate the function and primary mechanism of plumbagin on invasion and metastasis of human liver cancer SK-hep-1 cells. Methods:With the treatment of plumbagin in vitro, cell proliferation and adhesion of SK-hep-1 cells were detected by MTS staining, cell cycle of SK-hep-1 cells were detected by lfow cytometry, the self-renewal and propagation abilities of SK-Hep-1 cells were conducted by colony formation assay , invasion in cells were performed using transwell invasion assay, and the p21 and MMP-2/9 mRNA levels were detected by real-time RT-PCR. Results:With the treatment of plumbagin, SK-Hep-1 cells proliferation was decreased with plumbagin concentration-dependency and the IC50 value of plumbagin in SK-Hep-1 cells was 22.04 mmol/L. The colony formation ability of SK-Hep-1 cells was decreased and the percentage of cells in G0/G1 phase was increased in a dose-dependent manner, as compared to control. The cell adhesion and invasion abilities were decreased. The real-time RT-PCR showed that p21 mRNA expression was increased and the MMP-2/9 mRNA was decreased. Conclusion:Plumbagin could suppress the proliferation and invasiveness of human liver cancer SK-hep-1 cells in vitro, and these effects may be by up-regulation of p21 and down-regulation of MMP-2 and MMP-9.

AIM:To discuss the main clinical characteristics of current drug eruption for reference of prevention and treatment of drug eruption.　METHODS: Two hundred and thirty-three with drug eruption in 1999 were collected, and their clinical characteristics, such as age, main causative drugs and eruption types, etc. were analysed.　RESULTS: The age of current drug eruption increased. Antibiotics was the most common causative drug, while antiinflammatory analgestics, serum and vaccine, traditional Chinese medicine were next to it. Scarlet fever-like or measles-like type was the most common eruption type, while urticaria type, erythema multiforme type and fixed type were next to it.　CONCLUSION: Clinical physicians shoud inquire alergic history of patients thoroughly and avoid unnecessary drugs, so as to decrease the occurrence of drug eruption.

Objective To study the methods and value of emergency interventional therapy in digestive tract bleeding.Methods 61 cases with digestive tract bleeding accepted emergency angiography.According to find out positions and causes of bleeding during angiography,these patients accepted arterial embolization and /or perfusion of vasoconstrictor substance.Results In 29 cases accepted arterial embolization and 32 cases accepted perfusion of vasoconstrictor substance,the stoped bleeding immediately occured in 100% and 82.7% respectively.Bleeding recurrence was 3 cases in the patients with arterial embolization one week later and 25 cases of the patients with perfusion of vasoconstrictor substance forty-eight hours later.Conclusion To treat the digestive tract bleeding by arterial embolization or vasoconstrictor substance perfusion are safe and effective hemostatic ways during emergency angiography.Though the bleeding recurrent rate is high after vasoconstrictor substance perfusion,these ways can race against time for surgical operation.

Objective To identify subtypes of human immunodeficiency virus 1(HIV-1)strains from the AIDS patients in Shenzhen and determine whether the HIV-1 subtypes differ in disease progression.Methods HIV-1 env gene was amplified by the nest-RT-PCR from plasma obtained from 26 patients with AIDS in Shenzhen. The C2-V3 regions were sequenced to identify subtypes The plasma viral loads and CD4T lymphocyte were measured as the same time.Results Phylogenetic trees showed that the 12 AIDS patients had subtype B in which, one was close with the U.S reference strain and 11 with the Chinese Yunnan reference strain;13 AIDS patients had subtype CRF01-AE from Thailand;There were no differences in the CD4 cell count and plasma HIV-RNA levels between individuals infected with subtypes B and CRF01-AE.Conclusion Our study indicated that HIV-1 subtype B and CRF01-AE strains were present in AIDS patients in Shenzhen. There was no evidence that the subtypes of virus could determine disease progression.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to observe the expression of Sclerostin during movement of orthodontic teeth and determine the effect of this protein on remodeling of periodontal tissues.

METHODSTwenty-four Wistar rats were chosen. Orthodontic forces were applied between the bilateral incisor and first molar to achieve mesial movement. Rats in each group were executed at different time points (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 d). Morphology of periodontal tissue was observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. The number of osteoclasts were observed by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining. Sclerostin expression were observed by immunohistochemical staining.

RESULTSHE staining revealed that the resorption of alveolar bone intensified with prolonged movement. Results of immunohistochemical and TRAP staining revealed that Sclerostin expression and number of osteoclasts were related to duration of movement of orthodontic tooth. After staining for 5 days, the number of osteoclasts and Sclerostin expression reached their peak and then began to decline. The numbers of osteoclasts and the expression level of Sclerostin were higher at the compressive side than those at the tensive side.

CONCLUSIONSclerostin affected orthodontic tooth movement by inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway and by indirectly or directly controlling bone morphogenetic protein.

Objective To explore the impact of healthcare-associated septicemia (HAS)on hospitalization expense as well as length of hospital stay,so as to optimize the allocation of healthcare resources,and provide scientific basis for reducing the economic burden caused by septicemia.Methods Hospitalized patients with confirmed HAS in a tertiary first-class teaching hospital between June 1 ,2012 and May 31 ,2015 were investigated retrospectively,con-trol group was set up in a 1 :1 ratio,hospitalization expense and length of hospital stay between two groups were compared.Results A total of 285 cases and 285 controls were enrolled in the study,the median of hospitalization expense in case group was higher than control group (￥19 718.39 vs ￥9 289.04,P <0.05);the median of length of hospital stay in case group was longer than control group (14.89 days vs 9.22 days,P <0.05).The disease bur-den caused by septicemia in different age groups and departments were different.The improvement rate of case group was lower than control group (76.49% [218/285 ]vs 83.51 % [238/285 ],χ2 = 2.562,P = 0.009 ). Conclusion As the common blood stream infection in hospitalized patients,septicemia not only increased the ex-pense of diagnosis and treatment,but also affected turnover rate of hospital bed.Rapid and effective diagnosis and treatment is significant o prevent and control septicemia.

Objective To explore the change rules of peak area ratio of STR loci to Amelogenin (AMEL) locus (STR/A M EL ), a sex-determ ining gene in DNA degradation, and to evaluate the application of STR/A MEL value in the estim ation of DNA degradation degree. Methods DNA w as extracted from iliopsoas, and the variations of STR/A MEL value (Penta E/AMEL, Penta D/AMEL, FGA/AMEL) w ere analyzed after the artificial degradation w as m ade by DNaseⅠ, and the changes of these three ratios of the iliopsoas naturally degraded in an outdoor environm ent w ere also analyzed. The regression curves w ere analyzed using the periods of DNA degradation and outside the body as the independent variable (x) and the STR/A MEL value as the dependent variable (y) and three curve equations under tw o conditions w ere established. Results B oth under the conditions of artificial and natural degradation, STR/A MEL value had a negative relationship w ith the degradation tim e. The relationship betw een STR/A MEL and degradation tim e can be w ell sim ulated by the cubic function. R2 w as over 0.99 under controlled degradation condition and over 0.86 under natural degradation condition. Conclusion The STR/A MEL value (Penta E/AMEL, Penta D/AMEL , FGA/AMEL ) is negatively related w ith the DNA degradation degree, w hich follow s m athem atical regression m odels strictly, and it m ight be applied to evaluate the DNA degradation degree.
