AIM:To apply improved quality evaluation method for improving current quality criteria of Fufang Danshen products. METHODS:Considering both hydrophilic and lipophilic active components-danshensu,protocatechuic aldehyde, salvianolic acid B,cryptotanshinone and tanshinone ⅡA were selected as five markers. A HPLC method was developed to simultaneously determine their contents, which were used to compare the products from different companies, and different batches from the same company. Similarity factor method was used to evaluate the similarities of in-vitro dissolution profiles. Moreover, accelerated and long-term stability tests were performed to predict the shelf-life of Fufang Danshen products. RESULTS:All of the Fufang Danshen products passed the content requirements of Chinese Pharmacopeia. However, the content variations of the hydrophilic components were much higher than those of the lipophilic components. In dissolution tests, most of the hydrophilic components were dissolved completely while all of the lipophilic components could not be detected. The f2 values showed that there were no similar dissolution profiles among different brands of Fufang Danshen products. The contents of five markers degraded compatible with first-order kinetics processes in both the accelerated and long-term stability tests. The predicted shelf-life of Fufang Danshen products were shorter than those labelled on the products. CONCLUSION:It is suggested that more markers with defined content range instead of lower content limit are required for better control of Fufang Danshen products. Dissolution and stability tests need to be added into the quality control criteria in the Chinese Pharmacopeia.

Objective To optimize static pressurized liquid extraction(PLE) method for the extraction of aristolochic acids Ⅰ and Ⅱ(AAⅠ and AAⅡ) from Fructus Aristolochiae and study the influences of related factors. Methods The univariate design was introduced. The operational parameters, such as the type of solvent, particle size of the sample powder, extraction temperature, pressure, static time, flush volume, the number of cycles, and the amount of sample were optimized. Results The optimized result employed methanol as extraction solvent, particle size of 100—120 meshes, extraction temperature of 120 ℃,extraction pressure of 10.3 MPa,static time of 10 min, flush volume of 40%,1 cycle, and sample amount of 1.00 g.The method was applied for four species of traditional Chinese medicinal materials including Fructus Aristolochiae,Caulis Aristolochiae Manshuriensis,Radix Aristolochiae, and Radix Arsitolochiae Fangchi. Conclusion This method can be used to completely extract AAⅠ and AAⅡ from Fructus Aristolochiae in once extraction. The comparison shows that this static PLE method is better than ultrasonication and Soxhlet methods with higher extraction efficiency and less time-consuming.It is also better than the dynamic one in the extraction of AAs from Radix Aristolochiae.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of voice disorder and voice fatigue mental state in the pri-mary school teachers in a district of Chengdu. Methods A random sampling survey included 389 teachers from a dis-trict of Chengdu after they filled out the throat symptoms questionnaire, carried out voice fatigue tests, and strobo-scopic laryngoscopy. Results The most common voice of discomfort symptoms was hoarseness, followed by sore throat, dry throat and vocal fatigue. There were 189 teachers,48.5%,with voice disorders as the voice disorder group)and 200 teachers without throat and voice disorders as the control group. The failure rate was significantly higher at 80 dB than 75 dB,and for the study group, the failure rate was higher than that of the control group. The difference was statistically significant in 1,2 and 10 minutes between the two groups(P <0.05).Conclusion Voice fatigue is very common in the primary school teachers and when high volumes are required, the voice fatigue is more serious. To reduce voice fatigue and the incidence of primary school teachers'voice disease,we should strengthen the teacher's voice health care.

Objective To study the treatment of adolescent hyperthyroidism. Methods Retrospective analysis of the clinical data of the adolescent hyperthyroidism treated by surgery was made in our hospital from January 1990 to December 1998. Results In this series, there was no death, with 3 cases transient postoperative hypocalcemia and 1 had throat spasm and physoia. All the 4 cases recovered after treatment. 78 cases(85.7%) were followed up for 0.5~9 years. Of them, all were in good condition except 2 being recurred. Conclusions Operative treatment for adolescent hyperthyroidism is a safe, quick and effictive method, but the operation indications should be good controlled.

Objective To investigate the safety and therapeutic effects ot a novel multi-layer flat-plate bioartificial liver (BAL) for patients with liver failure. Methods Thirty-eight patients with liver failure from Dec.2010 to Dec.2011 were treated with a novel BAL based on multi-layer flatplate bioreactor and the co-cultured cells of the porcine hepatocytes and mesenchymal stem cells.A total of 48 treatments was performed,4 h each time. The clinical signs and symptoms, liver function, ammonia, coagulation function and complete blood count were evaluated before, during and after the treatment.DNA in the collected PBMCs was extracted for PCR with PERV specific primers and the porcine specific primer Sus scrofa cytochrome B.The RT activity was detected as well.Levels of xenoantibodies (IgG,IgM) were determined by using ELISA kit. Titers of complement were quantified by CH50 kit. Results All treatment procedures were completed successfully without any adverse reaction. All samples presented negative PERV DNA and RT activity. The levels of antibodies were similar before and after treatment.Treatment was associated with a temporary decline in levels of complement, and then the levels were recovered quickly. The clinical symptoms such as acratia, anorexia and abdominal distension were improved. The stage of hepatic encephalopathy in 16 patients was decreased. The liver function and ammonia was reduced disproportionately. Seven patients in all were bridged to liver transplantation,2 patients died and 2 patients gave up the treatment, and the others were turned better. After the outcome judgment according to the standard developed by the Artificial Liver Group, and Chinese Association of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, there were 9 patients with clinical healing,25 patients with improvement and 4 patients with no effect, and the cure-improvement rate was 89.5%.Conclusion The novel multi-layer flat-plate BAL could be used as a safe and effective therapy for patients with liver failure.

Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of dual-kidney transplantation from infant donors to adult recipients. Methods:From December 2012 to November 2020 in Organ Transplant Center First Affiliated Hospital Sun Yat-sen University, rertrospective reviews were conducted for clinical data of 25 pairs of infant donors and adult recipients. The survival rates were calculated for both recipients and transplanted kidneys at Year 1/3/5 post-transplantation. And the postoperative recovery status and the postoperative incidence of adverse events of recipients were observed. Results:The survival rates of recipients were all 95.8% at Year 1/3/5 and those of transplanted kidney and dealth-cancelling transplanted kidney all 87.2%. One case died due to acute inferior-wall cardiac infarction while three others lost renal functions for vascular thrombosis, ureteral stenosis and urinary fistula. Except for loss of renal function and death, the postoperative estimated golmerular fitration rate was (99.35±21.78), (103.11±29.20) and (114.99±28.55) ml/(min·1.73 m 2) at Year 1/2/3 respectively. Conclusions:Selecting proper recipients, standardizing donor acquisition and surgical procedures and strengthening perioperative managements may expand the donor pool. The overall outcomes are excellent for adult recipients with dual-kidney transplantation from donations after infants' death.

Vocal cord leukoplakia is a clinical diagnosis defined as a whitish patch or a plaque on a mucosal surface. Because of the diversity of histopathological types, the complexity and unpredictability risks for malignant transformation, there are still many controversies about its histopathological classification, diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this article is to review the epidemiology, etiology, pathological classification, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of vocal cord leukoplakia.
