Objective To discuss the anatomical and radiographic characteristics of acetabular fossa, and evaluate their value as a reference for achieving the anticipated inclination of the acetabular cup. Methods Sixteen adult normal pelvic specimens were studied.Central axis of acetabular fossa and its intersection with fossa edge and acetabular rim were marked. The radiographic appearance of the two intersections was evaluated. With radiographic templating, the relationship between the top of acetabular fossa and the central axis of acetabular cup at anticipated inclination was identified.Implantation of cementless acetabular cup was performed bilaterally on the pelvic specimens. The acetabular fossa was used as a reference for implantation on one side, and the acetabular positioning device was used on the other side. The discrepancy of acetabular inclination was recorded before and after operation in the two groups. Results Intersection of central axis of acetabular fossa with fossa top edge and acetabular rim corresponded to the most medial and lateral aspect of acetabular sourcil respectively on standard anteroposterior pelvic radiograph. There was close correlation between most medial aspect of acetabular sourcil and central axis of the acetabular cup at anticipated inclination of 40°±5°.For the group of using acetabular fossa as reference, the mean difference of inclination was 0.19°±3.14°(-6°-5°)before and after operation, and the discrepancy was 2.75°±2.89°(-2°-8°)for the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(t=-2.453,P=0.027).Conclusion In primary total hip replacement,if normal anatomy of acetabulum was found, the anticipated inclination of acetabular cup can be accurately obtained, based on the relationship between the top of acetabular fossa and anticipated inclination of acetabular cup on preoperative templating.

Objective:To explore the preparation procedure of pediatric Kechuan black plasters. Methods:A single factor method was used to observe and study the preparation process of pediatric Kechuan black plaster from the following aspects: the selection of matrix raw material and refined equipment, and the temperature of refinery, “Xiadan”, pouring white wax and adding fine material powder in production processing. Results:The best temperature of“Xiadan” for pure sesame oil and mineral orange with the purity a-bove 95% was 313 ℃. The “Xianzha” temperature was 264 ℃, the temperature of “Houxia” was between 180 ℃ and 200 ℃, and white wax instead of the traditional method was used to eliminate fire toxin. Conclusion:The research is helpful to improving the quali-ty of the black plasters. The preparation process is stable and feasible, and suitable for the industrial production.

Objective:To investigate gypsum fibrosum from different habitats by scanning electron microscopy ( SEM) . Methods:Gypsum fibrosum samples from different habitats were scanned by an electronic microscope. Results: The results of SEM showed that gypsum fibrosum (CaSO4·2H2O) from different habitats was with the crystal structure of fibrous, tabular or flaky aggregation. The sur-face amplification of gypsum fibrosum from Hubei showed obvious black spots, while that from the other habitats was without the feature. Conclusion:The method is simple and accurate, which can be used to investigate gypsum fibrosum from different habitats.

Objective To study the methods treating talar neck fractures. Methods From Oc-tober 1988 to June 2004, 66 patients with talar neck fractures were treated with different methods. Accord-ing to modified Hawkins classification, there were 14 patients with type Ⅰ fractures treated with plaster exter-nal fixation, 34 with type Ⅱ treated with manipulative reduction plus plaster external fixation, 16 with type Ⅲ treated with open reduction and internal fixation or joint fusion and 2 with type Ⅳ treated with open re-duction and internal fixation or joint fusion. There were four patients with old fractures. Results All pa-tients were followed up for mean 6.28 years and clinical outcomes evaluated according to Hawkins scoring system, which showed that 19 patients (29%) were graded excellent (including 13 type Ⅰ fractures, 5 type Ⅰ and 1 type Ⅲ), 17 good (including 1 type Ⅰ fracture, 12 type Ⅱ and 4 type Ⅲ), 18 fair (including 11 type Ⅱ fractures, 6 type Ⅲ and 1 type Ⅳ) and 12 poor (including 6 type Ⅱ, 5 type Ⅲ and 1 type Ⅳ). There occurred osteonecresis in 25 patients (38%), traumatic arthritis of ankle joint in 20 (30%) and that of subtalar joint in 26 (39%). Conclusions For type Ⅰ and Ⅱ fractures, plaster external fixation should be the choice of treatment. While open reduction and internal fixation should be done for type Ⅲ talar neck fractures and joint fusion for type Ⅳ and old fractures.

Gypsum as a common mineral medicine is widely used in clinics, which is mainly used for the treatment of all kinds of fever. Through reviewing the historical document records of gypsum, the effects of the mineral resources and production process on the quality, and the quality studies were investigated in order to guide the production process, the preparation process and decoction pieces classification of gypsum, and further expand the effective application of gypsum in clinics.

Objective: To establish the quality standard for Ehong capsules. Methods: A TLC was adopted to identify safflower, pueraria and prepared Radix Polygoni Multiflori. The contents of hydroxyl-safflor yellow A and puerarin in Ehong capsules were determined by a dual wavelength HPLC.A Wondasil C 18-WR (250 mm× 4.6 mm ,5 μm) was used as the analytical column, the mobile phase was composed of methanol acetonitrile-0.7% phosphoric acid aqueous solution (16∶3∶81), the flow rate was 1.0 ml·min-1 ,the detection wavelength was 403 nm for hydroxy safflower yellow A and 250 nm for puerarin. The column temperature was 30℃.Results: The TLC spots were clear and well-separated without negative interference. The calibration curves of hydroxyl-safflor yellow A and puerarin were linear over the ranges, the average recovery was 101.02% and 100.03% , and the RSD was 1.43% and 2.40% (n =6), respectively. Conclusion: The method is fast and accurate with good specificity, which can be used for the quality control of Ehong capsules.

Objective:To establish a determination method for loganin in Tiaojing Zhuyun granules by HPLC. Methods: HPLC was used with a SinoChrom ODS-BP (250 mm × 4. 6 mm,5μm) as the analytical column. The mobile phase was composed of acetoni-trile-0. 1% phosphoric acid solution(14∶86). The detection wavelength was set at 240 nm and the column temperature was 30℃. Re-sults:The calibration curve of loganin was in a good linearity over the range of 50. 40-1 008. 00 ng(r=0. 999 9). The average recov-ery was 99. 33%(RSD=1. 41%, n=6).
