Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a high-risk signal of acute ischemic cerebrovascular diseases, indicates a significant increase in the risk of ischemic stroke, especially within 7 days.Risk assessment and stratification are important in patients with TIA.A variety of simple prediction scales were developed based on the risk factors for stroke in patients with TIA, such as the California scale, ABCD scale, and ABCD2 scale.Among them, the ABCD scale score is used most commonly, but as its application becomes more and more common, the defects of this scale are also increasingly apparent. In recent years, some derived scales of ABCD score were introduced in order to improve the sensitivity and specificity of prediction. This article reviews the evolution, contents, characteristics, and predictive value of the ABCD score and its derived scales in the prediction of stroke risk in patients with TIA.

Objective To study the characteristics of microscopic spread of esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) and the influence of clinicopathological features on it to help define the clinical target volume (CTV) margin in radiotherapy. Methods Sixty-four surgical specimens of ESCC were observed for longitudinal microscopic spread per centimeter both proximally and distally from the tumor. The shrinkage ratio of each specimen was calculated and used for tissue incision. Results The further the distance beyond the tumor, the lower the incidence there was of microscopic spread.Positive rates of microscopic spread in group 3 cm of proximal and distal were 4.8% and 6.9%, respectively, and in group 4 cm were both 3.6%.Tumors longer than 5 cm in length, with poorer differentiation, lymph nodes metastasis and more aggressive phase had higher positive rates (79.3% vs 45.7%,77.4% vs 45.5%,76.0% vs 51.2%,70.5% vs 40.0%,χ2=7.52,6.86,3.91,5.36;P=0.006,0.009,0.042,0.021).Differentiation and tumor length were main factors contributing to microscopic spread (χ2=0.19,4.82;P=0.020,0.017).Conclusions To cover 95% of the microscopic spread,a margin of 3.0 cm proximal and 4.0 cm distal beyond gross tumor volume is needed and as to 90%, a margin of 3.0 cm both proximal and distal is needed. Moreover, the influence of pathological features should be taken into account.

Objective:The investigate the roles and significance of HIF-1α and CYPJ in tongue squamous cell carcinoma cell (TSCC), and further evaluate the regulatory effect of hyperthermia (HT) on HIF-1α and CYPJ in TSCC cells. Methods:Eighty samples of cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues from TSCC patients were collected. The expression levels of HIF-1α and CYPJ were detected by immunohistochemistry, Western blotting (WB) and fluorescence quantitative PCR, and the relationship between the expression levels of HIF-1α and CYPJ and clinicopathological characteristics was further analyzed. The expression levels of HIF-1α and CYPJ in Cal-27 cells under normoxic and hypoxic conditions for 24 h when combined with HT (42℃), chemotherapy and both were detected by qPCR and WB. Cell migration was detected by cell scratch test and cell apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry. Results:The expression levels of HIF-1α and CYPJ proteins in the tumor tissues of TSCC patients were higher than those in the adjacent normal tissues, which were significantly correlated with tumor size, TNM stage, differentiation degree and lymph node metastasis in TSCC patients (all P<0.05), whereas they were not correlated with gender or age (all P>0.05). The expression levels of HIF-1α and CYPJ in Cal-27 cells were significantly up-regulated in the hypoxic microenvironment (both P<0.05), which were also significantly enhanced by hyperthermia alone (both P<0.05). Compared with hyperthermia or chemotherapy alone, hyperthermia combined with chemotherapy significantly inhibited the expression of HIF-1α and CYPJ, suppressed cell migration and promoted cell apoptosis (all P<0.05). Conclusions:HIF-1α and CYPJ may be potential biomarkers for TSCC tumorigenicity and prognosis. In addition, tumor recurrence after hyperthermia may be due to the role of hyperthermia in triggering HIF-1α expression, which promotes the growth and survival of tumor cells adaptive to hyperthermia treatment by activating the downstream target genes, while hyperthermia combined with chemotherapy may be a promising treatment for TSCC.

Objective:To study the correlation between non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and functional ankle instability (FAI) in young patients. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted of the 102 patients with non-contact ACL injury[61 males and 41 females, with an age of (31.9±6.1) years and a Tegner activity score of (6.1±1.9) points] who had been treated at Department of Orthopedics, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from January 2017 to March 2020 (injury group). Another 102 citizens without ACL injury from Guangzhou [56 males and 46 females, with an age of (30.3±7.2) years and a Tegner activity score of (6.0±2.1) points] were recruited as a control group. The Cumberland ankle instability tool (CAIT) and the Ankle Joint Functional Assessment Tool (AJFAT) were used to assess whether the subjects had self-conscious FAI or not. A correlation analysis was conducted using the data collected. Results:The 2 groups were comparable because there were no significant differences between them in general data ( P>0.05). By the CAIT score, the incidence of FAI in the injury group [52.9% (54/102)] was significantly higher than that in the control group [32.4% (33/102)] ( P<0.05); by the AJFAT score, the incidence of FAI in the injury group [59.8% (61/102) ] was significantly higher than that in the control group [39.2% (40/102)] ( P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that diagnoses of FAI by CAIT and by AJFAT were respectively correlated with ACL injury ( r=-0.159, P=0.023; r=-0.215, P=0.002). Conclusions:The incidence of FAI may be high in patients with ACL injury and there is a correlation between FAI and ACL injury.
