Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2001;5(9):24-25
This article is a brief introduction of othotherapy to the children with CP, including applied purpose of orthotherapy, kinds most in use, action, matters that demanded special attention in use, procedure, etc, by the clinical experiences of three years. The result shows that the orthotherapy has curative effect on the disabled children. It should be paid more attention and developed further in the field of rehabilitation.

Objective To investigate the intelligence level and its structure of children with cerebral palsy, and to discuss the effect of degree on them. Methods The intelligence function of 45 children with cerebral palsy was tested by means of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Chinese Revised ~WISC-CR). The total IQ, verbal IQ, performance IQ and Bannatyne four factors were analyzed and compared among the children grouped on the basis of severity of their dysfunction. Results For children with cerebral palsy, the total IQ ~70.02?(19.50)) was lower than that of the normal children, the ratio of mental deficiency was 55.6%; their verbal IQ was higher than performance IQ ~79.80?18.88 vs 64.24?19.28),P

This is a prospective study on early discovery and diagnosis to cerebral palsy(CP).Fivehundred and forty cases with high risk neonates who were born from July 1. 1993 to December 31. 1994 infour districts in Beijing were monitored for one year.Eight cases were diagnosed for CP from 38 suspiciouscases by examining specific primitive reflex. nerve reflex.muscular tension. early symptoms and CT orMRI.etc. The study indicates that it is very important for decreasing CP incidence to strengthen healthmeasures in perinatal period and to avoid premature infant birth.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2001;7(4):166-167
ObjectiveTo explore the gait analysis of children with spastic cerebral palsy and its effect for the rehabilitation of cerebral palsy. Methods42 children with spastic cerebral palsy were examined with the cinematographic method and the biomechanics platform. We obtained three groups data. They are the time of gait cycle, the force in plate and the range of joints.ResultsThere was no difference in statistics within the six type cerebral palsy(P>0.05). Conclusions Children with spastic cerebral palsy are varied in the gait analysis. It is helpful to evaluate and treat cerebral palsy.

Objective To determine the in vitro antibacterial activity of levornidazole against 375 anaerobic isolates. Methods Agar dilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs)of levornidazole,3 comparators (metronidazole, ornidazole and dextrornidazole)against 375 anaerobic isolates. Results For anaerobic gram-negative and gram-positive bacilli, and anaerobic gram-positive cocci, levornidazole displayed activity similar to or slightly higher than that of met-ronidazole,ornidazole and dextrornidazole.Levornidazole showed good activity against B.fragilis,Bacteroides thetaiotaomi-cron ,Clostridium difficile ,Clostridium perfringens ,and Peptostreptococcus magnus .The MIC90 value of levornidazole a-gainst the above-mentioned anaerobes was 0.5,1,0.25,2 and 1 mg/L,respectively.However,levornidazole and the compa-rators had poor antibacterial activity against Veillonella spp.among anaerobic gram-negative cocci. Conclusions The in vitro anti-anaerobic activity of levornidazole is similar to or slightly higher than that of metronidazole, ornidazole and dex-trornidazole.Levornidazole has good activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive anaerobic bacilli, and gram-positive anaerobic cocci, suggesting its promising clinical use.

Objective To compare the advantages and disadvantages of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) and phenol block in the treatment of spasticity in children with cerebral palsy. Methods Four hundred and twenty children with spastic cerebral palsy were divided into an experimental group (375 cases) and a control group (45 cases). The children were aged from 1 to 22 years ( average age 6 years). The children in the experimental group were treated with BTX-A block at a dosage of 55 to 350 IU (average 130.5 IU).The children in the control group were treated with a 5% phenol solution block at a dosage of 0.5 to 4.6 ml ( average 2.2 ml).Children of both groups were given systematic functional rehabilitation training. All the children were evaluated with a physician rating scale (PRS) and the modified Ashworth scale (MAS) before and after the blocking.Effectiveness rates, effectiveness durations and side effects rates were calculated. Results Before treatment there was no significant difference in terms of motor disorder or spasticity between the 2 groups. After treatment, spasticity had been significantly reduced in both groups. The effectiveness rate was 98.4% in the experimental group and 95.6% in the control group,a difference which was not significant. The average effectiveness duration was ( 24.9 ± 5.76 ) weeks in the experimental group and ( 69.2 ± 13.76) weeks in the control group, significantly longer. The side effects rate was 5.33 % in the experimental group and 15.56% in the control group, also a significant difference. Conclusion BTX-A could be more widely used because of its safety and credibility.

Objective To investigate the effect of B TX -A block by insulative needle to release the spasticity in cerebral palsy. MethodsFrom June 2000 to November 2002, 47 children wit h spastic cerebral palsy aged 2 to 15 years old, averaged( 6.32?2.52) years o ld were divided into an experiment group and a control group. The 33 children in the experiment group were blocked with BTX-A by insulative needles. The other 14 children in the control group were blocked with BTX-A by use of the convent ional syringe. ResultsThe spasticity in the experim ent group reduced to a larger extend than that in the control group, and the th erapeutic effect lasted longer in the experiment group. Conclusi onUsing insulative needle can improve the effect of BTX-A block.

ObjectiveTo determine the normal values of the Comprehensive Function Assessment for Disabled Children. Methods60 healthy children ranged from 2 to 7 years old were evaluated with by the professional doctors. ResultsThe children ranged from 4 to 7 years old get scores above 90. The children ranged from 3 to 4 years old get scores above 80.The children ranged from 2 to 3 years old get scores above 60. Conclusions The Comprehensive Function Assessment for Disabled Children can evaluate the childrens develop ment entirely, detailedly and objectively. The normal values can be used to evaluate the children's function and the curative effect.

This research focused on the rehabilitation effect of orthosis for cerebral palsy(CP) children.46 CP children with physical dysfunction used the orthosis as an auxiliary therapy. The gait analysis, equilibrium, and comprehensive ADL measurement had been administrated pretherapy and post-therapy.The results show that 94.25% of CP children had improved their functions. The conclusions of this study indicated that it is important to use orthosis as an auxiliary therapy for CP children. Some important items of therapy had been discussed and the experiences of making plastic AFO had been introduced.
