Objective To investigate the status quo of application of fall risk factors assessment scale in nurses of different position in geriatric ward . Method Eighty-six nurses in different position were investigated by fall risk factors assessment scale . Results About 89 . 5%of the nurses could assess the fall risk factors on time and 80 . 2%could do it accurately , and only 62 . 8%of them worked out their nursing orders based on the possible falls. In terms of the accuracy in using fall risk factors assessment, the primary nurses was poorer than the senior nurses, with statistically significant difference between them (P<0.05). Yet there were no significant differences between them in timeliness and pertinence at working out nursing orders (P>0.05). Conclusion We should strengthen the training to the clinical nurses in correctly using the fall assessment scale , in order to exert the diagnostic value of the fall assessment scale, reduce the incidence of falls and ensure the safety of the patients.

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of the endocrine gland-derived vascular endothelial growth factor (EG-VEGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in adrenocortical lesions of primary aldosteronism. Methods The expressions of EG-VEGF, and VEGF were detected by immunohistochemistry and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR in samples of 18 cases of adrenocortical adenoma, 6 adrenocortical hyperplasia, and 8 normal adrenal cortex. The correlation between the expressions of EG-VEGF, VEGF, and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed. Results The expression of EG-VEGF or VEGF in adrenocortical adenomas was higher than that in adrenocortical hyperplasia or normal adrenal cortex ( all P<0. 05 ), and the expression of EG-VEGF or VEGF between adrenocortical hyperplasia samples and normal adrenal cortex samples was indistinctive. There was no statistically significant correlation between EG-VEGF or VEGF expression and sex, age, blood pressure, serum potassium, plasma renin activity, except in case of serum aldosterone( P<0.05 ). A positive correlation between EG-VEGF and VEGF ( P<0. 01 ) was found. Conclusions EG-VEGF and VEGF may play a significant role in the formation and development of adrenocortical tumors in primary aldosteronism.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2007;24(3):544-548
This study was aimed to assess the effects of fluid shear stress on the bone resorption in rat osteoclasts. The osteoclasts were derived from the lumbar vertebrae marrow cells which were isolated from the 6-month-old female Sprague Dawley rats, cultured on the slide at 1 x 10(6) cell/ml, and induced with 1, 25 (OH)2 Dihydroxyvitamin D3. The slide containing osteoclasts was taken out on day 7 after culture and then put into the flow chamber. The loads of fluid shear stress applied to the osteoclasts were 5.97, 11.36, 16.08 and 20.54 dyne/cm2, respectively, for 30 minutes. The osteoclasts unloading fluid shear stress were used as control. The bone resorptive pits were studied by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) secreted by osteoclasts was detected with ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The results showed that fluid shear stress can increase the activity of TRAP and significantly increase the number and area of bone resorptive pits made by osteoclasts, and the effect of fluid shear stress on the bone resorption of osteoclasts is the same as that on the activity of TRAP. The reaction of the osteoclasts to the fluid shear stress in this study also suggested that the bone resorption of osteoclasts be increased in a magnitude of fluid shear stress-dependent manner, and that the changes of TRAP activity be closely related to the changes of the number and area of resorptive pits of the osteoclasts.
