Objective To evaluate the performance of FL-1 macroporous absorption resin for absorption of total flavonoids from Psidium guajava leaf. Methods The concentration of total flavones in Psidium guajava leaf was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry and the absorption behavior of FL-1 macroporous adsorption resins to total flavones in Psidium guajava leaf was examined for the adsorption capacity and the volume of solution loaded. Results Optimal absorption of total flavonoids was achieved with the sample:total flavonoids concentration in the solution of 13.22 mg/mL,the ratio of total flavonoids concentration and macroporous adsorption resin was 1∶4,washing with 70% ethanol at the flow velocity of 2 BV/h.Conclusion FL-1 Macroporous absorption resin can be well applicable for enrichment of total flavonoids in Psidium guaijava leaf.

Objective To investigate the effect of Alzheimer' s beta-amyloid (Aβ) on the production and the translocation in cytoplasm of retinoid receptor-α (RXRα). MethodsN2awt cells were treated with Aβ peptide or amyloid protein precursor(APP695) transfection. The nucleus were separated from the cytoplasm by kit. The quantity of RXRα in the nucleus and cytoplasm was detected by Westernblot. The translocation of RXRα in the nucleus and cytoplasm of above N2awt cells or of the cortex cells in the brains of Alzheimer' s disease (AD) patients and their normal control groups was observed by immune fluorescence. ResultsIn N2awt cells, the increasing APP or Aβ had no significant effect on the production of RXRα but resulted in RXRα exporting into cytoplasm, the ratio of RXRα in cytoplasm increased from 3.2% (in control group) to 17.6% (in APP+ group) and from 3.8% (in control group) to 14.3% (in Aβ + group) respectively; compared with normal cortex cells, the translocation of RXRα in the cytoplasm of the cortex cells in the brains of AD increased significantly. ConclusionAβ may affect RXRα exporting into cytoplasm.

BACKGROUND: Many studies showed that neural stem cells (NSC) transplantation can promote functional improvements in rats subjected to spinal cord injury. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of NSC transplantation on expressions of Bax, Bcl-2 and Caspase-3 in the motor cortex in rats subjected to spinal cord transection.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The randomized controlled animal experiment was performed at Institute of Neuroscience,Kunming Medical College from July 2007 to December 2008.MATERIALS: Five green fluorescent protein transgenic mice with 14-15 embryonic days were prepared for NSC. Additionally 88 adult female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham operation group (n=8), model group (n=40) and NSC transplantation group (n=40).METHODS: Model of spinal cord transection was established by cut transversely Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats T_9 segment. Rats in the sham operation group were subjected to laminectomy at T_8, without spinal cord injury. After the spinal cord was exposed at the lesion site, a small piece of 2 mm~3 gel foam soaked with 3×10~5 NSC were implanted into the gap to fill the lesion site of the T_9 level in rats of the NSC transplantation group. The measurements of relative indexes were performed at the days 3, 7,14, 21 and 28 after transplantation.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes of Bax, Bcl-2 and Caspase-3 expressions were detected by RT-PCR.RESULTS: Compared to the sham operation group, the Bax expression in the model group had no significant difference (P >0.05), the expression of Bcl-2 was decreased obviously at days 14 and 28 after operation (P < 0.05), while a significant increase on the expression of Caspase-3 at day 3 (P < 0.05). Compared to the model group, the expression of Bax was dramatically decreased in the NSC transplantation group at day 3 (P < 0.05), with a notably increased Bcl-2 expression at days 14 and 21 after transplantation (P < 0.05), but the expression of Caspase-3 presented a significant decrease at days 3 and 7 after transplantation (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: NSC transplantation probably regulates the expression of apoptosis genes (Bax, Bcl-2 and Caspase-3 mRNA) to promote neurological function recovery in rats subjected to cord transection.

Objective To observe the effect of pigplacenta ins tead of Ziheche (P lacenta Hominis) for the treatment of senile dementia. Methods Seventy Kunming mice were divided into blank group, model group, pos itive control group, Zih eche low and high dosage groups, and pigplacenta low and high dosage grou ps, wi th 10 in each. The senile dementia models were established with the D-Galactose subcutaneous injection. The blank group was not administered any medicines. The model group was prescribed normal saline instead of the tested medicine; the pos itive control group was given Naofukang by gavage; the Zih eche low and high dosage groups were given 2g/kg and 4g/kg Ziheche respectivel y by gavage; while the pigplacenta low and high dosage groups were treated wi th p igplacenta 4g/kg and 8g/kg respectively by gavage. After treatment for 6 week s, the behavior experimental dark-avoiding test and step-down test were applied to test the effect of the medicines on the learning memory of mice, and acetylchol inesterase and monoamine levels in brain tissues. Results There was no s ignificant difference between the effect of pigplacenta and Ziheche in resi stin g senile dementia. In the latency of dark-avoiding test, the effect of high d osa ge of pigplacenta was significantly better than that of Ziheche (P

Advancements in technology have enhanced the performance of pacemakers but made the interaction between the pacemaker and the heart becoming increasingly complex, and its is difficult to interpret the paced ECGs (PGCGs). This paper introduces a brief method to interpret PECGs, which illustrate the timing intervals graphically and avoid using symbols and strings.
