OBJECTIVE:To provide a simple and reliable method to estimate confidence intervals of incremental cost-effectiveness ratios for pharmacoeconomics evaluation in China. METHODS:Through retrieving relevant foreign literature, the idea and mathematical properties of non-parametric Bootstrap method were described and the method for calculating confidence intervals were explained by giving an example. RESULTS&CONCLUSION:Non-parametric Bootstrap method is simple and reliable for the calculation of confidence intervals of pharmacoeconomics. When the distribution of samples is skewed significantly or the sample size is not plenty enough,we still need to be cautious to adopt non-parametric Bootstrap method.

OBJECTIVETo compare the effect, safety, and advantage of flexible fixation with paperboard and pad versus short leg plaster in treating the fifth metatarsal base fracture, and establish the standard of diagnosis and treatment of the fifth metatarsal base fractures in flexible fixation with paperboard and pad.
METHODSFrom June 2010 to March 2013,59 patients with the fifth metatarsal base fracture were treated with paperboard and pad fixation or short leg plaster. Patients were enrolled and divided into paperboard and pad treatment group (paperboard group) and short leg plaster treatment group (plaster group) randomly according to the random number table. In paperboard group, there were 29 cases including 9 males and 20 females with an average age of (51.79±11.40) years old; the average course of injury was (11.59±6.58) hours. In plaster group, there were 30 cases including 9 males and 21 females with an average age of (52.13+17.34) years old ;the average course of injury was (11.03±7.06) hours. According to whether the fracture line across the articular surface, in paperboard group there were 14 cases of type A,15 of type B; in plaster group,16 of type A, 14 of type B. According to the degree of dislocation,in paperboard group there were 16 cases of degree I ,13 of degree II ; in plaster group,20 were degree I ,10 were degree II. Fracture was restored according to the type in manual. Patients in paperboard group were treated with paperboard and pad, and patients in plaster group were treated with short leg plaster. Fracture was fixed for 4 to 6 weeks according to fracture healing. On the 2nd, 4th,6th, 8th week and 3rd, 6th month after fixation, patients were followed up, and the foot function score was used to evaluate the function of injured foot. X-ray of injured foot was taken on the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th week were used to assess fracture healing.
RESULTSAll patients got complete follow-up. The X-ray result showed that all fracture reached at clinical healing on the 8th week after fixation without skin ulcer, nonunion and displacement of fracture. From the 4th to 8th week after fixation, paperboard group had a higher X-ray score than plaster group, but the difference between two groups had no statistically significance. Repeated analysis result showed that there was interact at different time point and between groups, the difference had statistically significance (P<0.01). The foot function score showed that at all time point, paperboard group had a higher score than plaster group, and on the 2nd, 4th, and 6th week, it had statistically significant difference(P<0.01) between two groups. On the 6th months after fixation, the excellent and good rate of paperboard group was 93.10%, higher than that of plaster group, which was 86.67%. But it had no statistically difference(P=0.483) between two groups.
CONCLUSIONUsing paperboard and pad fixation to treat the fifth metatarsal base fracture has the advantage of simplicity operating, reliable fixation, satisfactory effects, easily obtainable material.

Virologica Sinica 2001;16(2):166-169
A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and single-strand conformation polymorphisms (SSCP) assay were applied to rapidly detect the molecular variability in CP and SP genes among seven isolates of Rice stripe virus in China. The PCR results showed that the CP gene of JD isolate and SP gene of PJ isolate could not be amplified. SSCP analysis showed that there were completely different electrophoretic pattern of CP gene among six isolates. To SP gene, SSCP results also discovered polymorphisms. There were five patterns among these isolates, and the pattern of YL and BS isolates were same.

BACKGROUND:Human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AMSCs) are considered to be one kind of adult stem cells that can be easily obtained in large quantities without using an invasive method. Because of their low immunogenicity, anti-inflammatory properties, multipotency of differentiation and without ethical issue, human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells have been proposed as a good candidate to be used in celltherapy and regenerative medicine. However, the biological properties and the differentiation capacity of human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells are stil poorly characterized. OBJECTIVE:To establish a practical method for isolation and purification of human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells, and to study the biological characteristics and dopaminergic neural-like celldifferentiation potential of the human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells. METHODS:Human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells were disassociated and isolated from the amniotic membrane by trypsin and col agenase based enzymic digestion, and purified by percol mediated density gradient centrifugation. Expressions of surface antigens and transcription factors of the human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells were determined by flow cytometry and western blot assays. Based on the osteogenic and adipogenic induction, the multipotent differentiation capability of human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells was determined. Induction of neural celldifferentiation of human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells was conducted in Neurabasal conditioning medium with ATRA supplement. Neural cellassociated bio-markers were determined by immunofluoresence staining and confocal microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In this study, we performed a practical method to isolate and purify human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells and amniotic epithelial cells simultaneously, with high cells yield. We demonstrated a group of constitutive expressions of neural antigens and embryonic associated transcription factor proteins (OCT-4, SOX-2 and KLF4) in fresh isolated human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells as wel as in human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells after in vitro passage, which suggested that the human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells not only possessed intrinsic tendency to neural celldifferentiation, but also maintained their stem cellcharacteristics after in vitro passage. We stimulated the human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells in the neurobasal-A and B27 based conditioning medium to induce neural celldifferentiation. The induced human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells displayed an up-regulation of expression in panel of neural and dopaminergic associate molecules (β-tubulin III, neuron-specific nuclear protein, tyrosine hydroxylase, glial fibril ary acidic protein, myelin basic protein and nestin) by flow cytometry and immunofluorescence staining, which demonstrated the multipotent differentiation capability and dopaminergic neuron-like differentiation potential of the human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells.

BACKGROUND: Researches suggest that transient ischemic attack (TIA)can induce cognitive dysfunction, and cerebral blood flow and its distribution are hypothesized to be closely related to cognitive activities.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the alteration of cognitive function and provide insights into its relations with cerebral perfusion in TIA patients.DESIGN: A case-control study.SETTING: Departments of Geriatrics, Electrophysiology and Magnetic Resonance of Urumqi General Hospital of Lanzhou Military Area Command of Chinese PLA.PARTICIPANTS: Totally 35 male right-handed TIA patients aged 45-78 years with an average of (68.1±8.4) years were selected from the inpatients and outpatients in the Department of Geriatrics, Urumqi General Hospital of Lanzhou Command of Chinese PLA between January 2002 and June 2003. Another 33 healthy right handed male subjects aged 45-77 years with an average of (67.8±8.6) years coming for physical examination were recruited to serve as the control group.METHODS: Patients and control subjects were tested with event-related potentials (ERPs) and the scale of elderly cognitive function (SECF) to examine the orientation, learning and memory, span, recall 1 (association),long-term memory, naming of animals, calculation, classification, copying, language and recall 2 (relation). According to the T score transformation table, the original scores were transformed into T scores relative to the age to eliminate the impact of age, and also into T'score to eliminate the interference by the patients'education, so that cognitive function of the patients could be evaluated with T'score, and the lower the score, the poorer the cognitive function. Cases in the two groups were all tested, and TIA patients were also examined with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Results of ERPs, SECF and MRA.RESULTS: Of the 35 TIA patients and 33 control subjects all completed the trial. Examination of ERPs reveled significantly prolonged latency of P300 components of ERP in the TIA group [(336.2±34.2) ms] than that in the control group [(311.3±44.2) ms, P < 0.05]. The scores of span, recall 1,long-term memory, naming of animals, calculation, and recall 2 in SECF in TIA group were all lower than those in control group (39.7±11.9 vs 47.4±12.0; 54.5±14.8 vs 61.8±14.5; 61.1±7.8 vs 64.7±1.7; 59.4±11.0 vs 64.7±8.8; 50.0±14.7 vs 58.1±14.2; 44.6±15.4 vs 53.2±17.8, t=4.151 0-7.292 8, P < 0.05-0.01). MRA identified abnormalities in 33 of the 35 TIA patients (94%), manifested mainly by stenosis and occlusion involving the vertebral artery (54%, 19/35), bilateral anterior, middle and posterior cerebral arteries (40% ,28/70;59% ,41/70;47% ,33/70), basilar artery (5.71%, 2/35) and bilateral internal carotid artery (5.71%, 4/70) respectively.CONCLUSION: TIA patients are characterized by prolonged P300 latency with multiple cognitive impairments especially in memory and cerebral artery stenosis and occlusion as shown by MRA, suggests that TIA patients have persistent low cerebral perfusion and frequently, cognitive dysfunction in the presence of local blood supply disorder in the hemispheres.
