OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the economics of alendronate sodium preventing osteoporotic fractures in postmenopausal women, and to provide reference for osteoporotic and osteopenia patients to select economical and effective therapy plan. METH-ODS:Using Markov economic model,TreeAge Pro 2011 software was used for cost-utility analysis using RCTs literature data of basic medication(calcium and vitamin D3)and basic medication combined with alendronate sodium as baseline data. Using quality adjusted life years(QALYs)and incremental cost utility ratio(ICUR)as economics evaluation indexes, the stability of established model was investigate by single factor sensitivity analysis. RESULTS:QALYs of the basic treatment group was 0.704 years, and QALYs of drug combination group was only 0.708 years. However,ICUR of two groups reached 714252.44. For the late period of hip fracture and other fractures, drug combination group was in high cost and low benefit, obviously had no economic advan-tage. For vertebral fractures, the cumulative probability of fracture in drug combination group was significantly lower than basic treatment group, and ICUR of the two groups was only 13902.17,with economic advantage. For hip fracture, the cumulative prob-ability of fracture in basic treatment group was the same as drug combination group, and ICUR was 19109.00,with economic ad-vantage. For wrist fractures, curative effect and economy needed further study. CONCLUSIONS:For the low-risk population with osteoporotic fractures, calcium and vitamin D3 are more economical in preventing osteoporosis fractures. For the high-risk popula-tion with vertebral and hip fractures, alendronate sodium combined with basic treatment is effective and economical.

Objective To study the frequency of the derivative chromosome 9 [der(9)] deletion among patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), and explore the application value of local-specific inspector (LSI) 9q34 probe in detect the der (9) deletion. Methods Cytogenetic analysis was performed by 24 h unstimulated culture, GTG banding and karyotype. Dual colour/dual fusion or extra signal(ES) DNA probe was used to perform interphase-FISH for the detection of bcr-abl fusion gene in 52 patients with CML. LSI 9q34 DNA probe was used to detect der(9) deletion. Results FISH results showed bcr-abl fusion gene existed in all 52 patients with CML. der(9) deletion was detected in 12 patients with ES/DCDF probe, but only in 11 patients with LSI 9q34 probe. Conclusion It's more efficient in detection of der(9) deletion with LSI 9q34 probe. Deletion of der(9) might be a poor prognostic factor for CML patients, and LSI 9q34 probe should be used in all the CML patients with positive bcr-abl fusion gene.

Objective To explore the effects of partial body weight support treadmill training (PBWSTT) combined with brain function therapy on walking ability of stroke patients. Methods 112 stroke patients with hemiplegia were randomly allocated into treatment group (n=57) and control group (n=55). The control group received routine rehabilitation training, while the treatment group received PBWSTT combined with brain function therapy in addition. They were assessed with lower limb's movement and balance function assessment of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), and Modified Barthel Index (MBI) before and after the treatment. Results The scores of FMA, FAC, and MBI improved more in treatment group than in control group after treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion Based on the conventional rehabilitation, PBWSTT combined with brain function therapy may improve the motor function of lower limb, balance function, walking ability, and ADL more significantly in stroke patients with hemiplegia.

To investigate the influences of sperm quality on the zygotes and embryos development, as the role of the paternal factor in early human embryogenesis is gaining more attention because of the application of techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for the treatment of men infertility. 136 infertility couples with men factors (Group I ) were included from May 2002 to January 2001. One hundred and seventy-two infertility couples with tube factors (Group II) served as controls. The sperm parameters, gemmates and embryos quality, implantation rate and pregnant rate in both groups were analyzed. It was found that there was no significant differences in the number of oocytes retrieved, the fertilization rate and number of embryos transferred between two groups. Sperm concentration, percentage of motile sperm and percentage of sperm with normal morphology were significantly lower in group I than in group II (P < 0.01). The proportion of good quality zygotes and good quality embryos were significantly lower in the male infertility group than in the tubal disease group (P < 0.05). Implantation rate and pregnancy rate were similar in two groups. It was concluded that spermatozoa is involved in the embryo quality, even in the early stages of development, which limited the treatment potency of IVF procedure.

Background The senescence of alveolar type II epithelial cells is an important driving factor for the progression of silicotic fibrosis, and the regulatory effects of oxamate on the senescence of alveolar type II epithelial cells is still unclear. Objective To explore whether lactate dehydrogenase inhibitor oxamate can alleviate silicotic fibrosis in mice by inhibiting senescence of alveolar type II epithelial cellsMethods This study was divided into two parts: in vivo experiments and in vitro experiments. In the first part, forty SPF C57BL/6J male mice were randomly divided into four groups with 10 in each group: control group, silicosis model group, low-dose oxamate treatment group, and high-dose oxamate treatment group. The silicotic mouse model was established by intratracheal instillation of 50 μL SiO2 suspension (100 mg·mL−1). The treatment models were prepared by intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL oxamate (225 mmol·L−1 and

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2007;24(2):128-130
OBJECTIVETo clone down-regulated genes in neural tube defects of golden hamster induced by hyperthermia and to explore the molecular mechanism.
METHODSA reversed subtractive cDNA library was constructed using suppression subtractive hybridization. Clones with inserts were selected by combination of alpha complementary phenomenon and colony PCR. Then sequence and homology analysis of the inserts were made. And mRNA expression conditions were confirmed by Northern blot.
RESULTSThe reversed subtractive cDNA library was successfully constructed. Fifteen recombinant clones were sequenced and recognized homologous to known genes. The results of Northern blot showed that all these genes were down-regulated in defected neural tubes induced by hyperthermia compared to normal developed neural tubes.
CONCLUSIONSome important genes are identified which might be involved in neural tube defects induced by hyperthermia.
