Using chemically defined medium as the control, mechanism of corn steep liquor (CSL) in complex medium during glycerol production by Candida glycerinogenes was studied. The results showed that there were three key factors in CSL that had some great influences on glycerol fermentation of C.glycerinogenes, including phosphorus, nitrogen, and trace elements. The maximum glycerol yield of 53.44% was achieved at an optimal phosphorus concentration of 121.75mg/L, where the CSL concentration was 14g/L.Phosphorus in CSL could control the distribution of carbon metabolism flux between EMP pathway and HMP pathway. With the increase in CSL concentrations, superfluous phosphorus could restrain HMP pathway and activate EMP pathway, thus resulting in remarkable changes in various fermentation parameters of complex medium.Nitrogen in CSL could play a cooperative role in the regulative function of phosphorus. However, it was not a suitable nitrogen source for C.glycerinogenes.Trace elements in CSL could markedly improve the glucose consumption rate, accelerate the cell growth, and enhance the glycerol yield.

Retrospective study was carried out in 93 cases of endometrial carcinoma admitted to our hospital since Jan. 1985 to Dec. 1994. Thirty five cases were older than 60 years, and 24 cases were younger than 50 years. All of the cases had pathological diagnosis and were staged according to FIGO. When compared with the younger group, the rate of older patients with stage Ⅰa was higher (11.4% in younger and 45.4% in older, P

Objective To assess the dlagnostic value of a triple stimulation technique(TST)for benign monomelic amyotrophy(BMA). Methods A total of 15 BMA patients and 15 healthy control subiects were exam-ined with the TST.The latent periods, amplitudes, areas and durations of the negative waves of the compound muscle action potential(CMAP)and motor evoked potential(MEP)induced by the stimulation were recorded, and the de-creasing ratio of amplitudes and areas in the two groups were analyzed. Results There were significant differences in amplitude and area ratios between the BMA patients and the healthy control subjects. Both ratios were significantly lower in the BMA patients. Conclusion TST has some value in diagnosis of BMA.

Virologica Sinica 2000;15(4):361-366
Methods of ELISA, nonradioactive molecular hybridiz ation and RT-PCR were applied in the detection of rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV ). The detection sensitivity of indirect ELISA using antiserum against fusion p rotein GST-NC was 1 mg of infected leaves or 84 ng of purified virus. The metho d of dot hybridization using NC, a DIG-labelled DNA probe was 50 μg diseased l e aves, or 6 ng purified preparations. The detection endpoint of RT-PCR was 10 μg diseased leaves, or 2 ng purified virus preparation. Comparisons of sensitivit y and maneuverability were made among these methods.

Objective To observe the levels of HIF-α and TGF-β in the liver tissue, change of serum transaminase in different phases after paraquat (PQ) toxicity and liver histopathology change in PQinduced liver toxicity of rats models in order to analyze the relationship between HIF-1 α and hepatic toxicity induced by PQ.Methods A total of 48 healthy SD rats were randomly (random number) assigned into 2 groups:PQ poisoning group (n =42,20% PQ solution,50 mg/kg in 1mL) and control group (n =6,normal saline 1mL).Rats were separately sacrificed and liver tissue samples were harvested at 2,6,12,24,48,72 h and 120 h after PQ administered by gastric lavage.Arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and serum alanine transaminase were assayed.Liver tissue HE and Masson staining and immunochemistry changes were also investigated.HIF-1α and TGF-β levels were detected by Western blot technique. Results Lactic acid level was significantly higher in PQ group than that in control group at 6 h after PQ exposure (P < 0.05).The level of serum alanine transaminase was increased and significantly higher if PQ group than that in control group at 2 h after PQ poisoning (P < 0.05).The level of HIF-1 α and TGF-β protein in the liver tissue were up-regulated significantly and higher in PQ group than those in control group at 2 h after PQ exposure (P < 0.05).The hepatocytes necrosis and inflammatory cells infiltration were observed around portal area 2 h after PQ poisoning. At 12 h after PQ exposure, the periportal area filled with necrosis of hepatocytes and the necrosis began to extend, and huge amounts of inflammatory cell infiltration were found.Cord-like fibroplasia was found. All the histological changes were around central portal area and were enlarged gradually. Conclusions The results show that there are increased level of HIF-1 α in the early stage of PQ poisoning rats. The liver fibroplasia may be associated with increasing the level of TGF-β promoted by HIF-1α.

Cancer, also known as malignant tumor, is the second largest disease after heart disease, which is characterized by genomic instability and mutagenicity. Ataxia telangiectasia and RAD3-related kinase (ATR) are members of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PIKK) family, belonging to serine/threonine kinase, one of the key kinases in DNA damage response (DDR) and DNA repair pathway. This paper reviews the latest progress in the ATR inhibitor field including mechanism of action (MOA), therapeutic applications, and the combination therapy from the perspective of medicinal chemistry. It also discusses the possible challenges and future directions of developing ATR inhibitor antitumor drugs, which could provide the scientists in this field the convenience for access the information and application guidance for clinical studies.

The present study aimed to investigate the impact of hypothyroidism on left ventricular systolic function using real-time three-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (RT3D-STI). Thirty hypothyroidism patients and forty healthy volunteers were recruited and received RT3DSTI measurement of global longitudinal strain (GLS), global circumferential strain (GCS), global radial strain (GRS), and global area strain (GAS). A comparison of differences between the hypothyroidism patients and those in the healthy group was carried out and we obtained the results as followings. The values of GLS were (-18.93 +/- 3.89) vs. (-21.44 +/- 1.99), with P < 0.01, GRS were (51.13 +/- 11.95) vs. (56.10 +/- 5.76), with P < 0.0; and GAS were (-31.63 +/- 5.38) vs. (-34.40 +/- 2.32), with P < 0.01, i.e. they were lower in hypothyroidism group than those in the health group. While GCS were (-17.75 +/- 1.92) vs. 17.03 +/- 3.45), with P > 0.05, which were not significantly different between the two groups. In linear regres sion, GLS showed significant correlation with both TSH (b = -0.69, P < 0.01) and FT3 (b = 0.71, P < 0.01). Meanwhile, the GRS (b = 2.98, P < 0.05) and GAS (b = 3.11, P < 0.05) linearly correlated with FT3 level. In conclusion, the present study shows that the global longitudinal and radial moves of left ventricular are weaker in patients with hypothyroidism than healthy controls. And the impairment of left ventricular function would aggravate as FSH rises or FT3 declines.
