To assess early treatment for fracture of the maxillofacial bone complicated by cerebral injury, 120 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The change in GCS, the incidence of stress ulceration, nosocomial pneumonia and the injury of liver or kidney were determined 1 week after fixation of the fracture of the maxillofacial bone at different stages. There was no significant influence of the time of the operation on the severity of brain injury and the incidence of the complications. It is our assertion that the bone fracture could be fixed at an earlier stage, and RIMF is a kind of satisfactory fixation method.

Aim To investigate the changes of cerebral blood flow in rats with diabetic cognitive impairment by two-channel laser Doppler flowmeter,and to explore the changes of cerebral blood flow in diabetic rats with cognitive impairment and to investigate the changes of cerebral blood flow lesions and the central nervous system function changes in the study to provide pre-foundation.Methods Thirty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups:blank control group and diabetic model group.The rats in the model group were treated with streptozotocin (STZ) 60 mg · kg-1,and the glucose oxidase method was used to determine fasting blood glucose ≥ 16.7 mmol · L-1 as the standard of the model.The Water maze was used to observe the behavioral changes of diabetic rats.Dual-channel laser doppler flowmeter was used to measure cerebral blood flow in diabetic rats with cognitive impairment.Another 34 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups:control group and diabetic model group.Dual-channel laser doppler flowmeter was used to dynamically monitor cerebral blood flow on 0 d,7 d,14 d,21 d,28 d,35 d,42 d,56 d and 75 d.ELISA was applied to detect the concentration of iNOS,eNOS and ET-1 in cerebrospinal fluid.Results Morris water maze test showed that the time of the platform (latency) was significantly longer than that of the blank control group(P ＜0.05).The cerebral blood flow/100 g of diabetic rats with cognitive impairment was significantly lower than that of the control group (P ＜ O.05),and the blood flow in the model group was significantly lower than that in the model group (P ＜ 0.05).Compared with control group,iNOS and eNOS concentrations were markedly elevated,while ET-1 concentration obviously decreased.Conclusions The decrease of blood flow in the frontal cortex of diabetic rats with cognitive impairment suggests that it may be one of the factors leading to cognitive impairment in diabetes mellitus.Cerebral blood flow reduction occurs in the early stages of diabetes,followed by no significant deterioration.Cerebral blood flow may not be related to the changes of NO and ET-1,but the trend of cerebral blood flow may be related to the change of the two.

Background C57BL/6(B6) is a kind of routine mouse specie used in experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) research.Previous studies showed that the pathogenesis of uveitis related to inflammatory cytokines secreted by different helper T(Th) cells.However,the interaction of different Th cells in EAU is unclear.Objective This study was to investigate the dynamic changes of inflammatory factors in the spleen and serum after immunization in EAU mice.Methods Forty-four SPF B6 mice were immunized by injection of interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) and complete Freund adjuvant (CFA) emulsion via caudal vein and footpad.Indirect ophthalmoscope was used to examine the eyes 3 times per week and the inflammatory response was scored based on Thurau's criteria.In the thirty day after injection,20 model eyes were extracted and the sections of eye tissue were prepared for histopathological examination.The spleens of model mice were enucleated before injection and 2,5,10,15,20,25,30 days after injection,and reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) was used to detect the contents of interleukin-17 (IL-17) mRNA,interferon-γ (IFN-γ) mRNA,tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) mRNA and IL-10 mRNA,and the contents of IL-17,IFN-γ,TNF-α and IL-10 in model serum were assayed by ELISA in 24 model mice.The experimental protocol and use of the animals were approved by Ethic Committee for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Results Mild inflammatory response was seen in 12 days under the indirect ophthalmoscope with the scores of 0.5.The inflammatory scores peaked in 13-15 days with the scores of 1.0 and alleviated after that with the inflammatory scores of 0.5 in 30 days after injection.The histopathological score was consistent with the clinical score in the models on the 30 days.The serum IL-17 content of model mice was (0.98±0.05) ng/L before injection and increased to (51.85 ±2.42) ng/L on the fifth day,and decreased to (4.01±0.06)ng/L on the fifteen day.But,the serum IL-17 level increased to (25.00±0.94)ng/L again on the 25th day,and then lowed to (6.01 ±0.21)ng/L 30 days after injection,showing a significant elevation in comparison with that of before injection (P=0.000).The serum IFN-γ content of the model mice was (1.02±0.09)ng/L before injection and increased to (50.54±0.48) ng/L on the fifth day,and (73.21±0.12) ng/L on the tenth day,and then it declined gradually until (5.15±0.18)ng/L in the 30th day,which was still higher than that of before injection (P=0.000).After injection of IRBP+CFA,the serum TNF-α level upregulated from the second day to fifth day with the peak values (134.25±0.59)ng/L,and declined to valley on 15th day.A repeat elevation of serum TNF-α level was found on the 20th day with the values (60.54±0.62)ng/L and followed by decrease till the 30th day,which was higher than that of before injection (P=0.660).Serum IL-10 was detectable in the tenth day and peaked on the 15th day.Then a slight decrease was seen till the 30th day,compared with before injection(P =0.000).The contents of IL-10 mRNA,IL-17 mRNA,TNF-α mRNA,IFN-γmRNA in mice spleens followed the same pattern with serum levels of their proteins.Conclusions IL-17,IFN-γ,TNF-α and IL-10 are key inflammatory factors of Th1,Th2 and Th17,they present with specific changes during EAU,it confirming that IFN-γ probably play a pathogenic role in EAU,IL-17 and TNF-α levels probably associated with the chronic and recurrent procedure of uveitis,IL-10 plays an inhibit role in EAU.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of wheat-sized moxibustion in assisting the treatment of mild—to-moderate persistent chronic bronchial asthma in the elderly with Salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate aerosol. Method Eighty-four old patients with mild—to-moderate persistent chronic bronchial asthma were randomized into an observation group and a control group by using the random number table, 42 each. The control group was given Salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate aerosol, 1 inhalation each time, twice a day;the observation group was additionally given wheat-sized moxibustion by selecting Pishu (BL20), Feishu (BL13) and Geshu (BL17), twice a week. The two groups were both treated for 2 months. Before and after the intervention, Asthma Control Test (ACT), Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ), and pulmonary function parameters [peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and forced vital capacity (FVC)] were observed, and the clinical efficacies were compared. Result The total effective rate was 92.9% in the observation group versus 78.6% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05); the ACT and AQLQ scores, as well as PEF, FEV1 and FVC were significantly increased after the intervention in both groups (P<0.05); after the treatment, the improvement in the observation group was significantly superior to that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Wheat-sized moxibustion is effective in assisting the treatment of mild-to-moderate persistent chronic bronchial asthma in the elderly with Salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate aerosol. It can effectively controlasthma and enhance the quality of life.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of stone needle therapy plus medication in treating early-mid stage senile knee osteoarthritis (KOA).Method Seventy elderly patients with early-mid stage KOA were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 35 cases each. The control group was intervened by oral administration of Meloxicam tablets, while the treatment group was intervened by stone needle therapy based on the medication. The two groups were treated 5 times a week, for successive 3 weeks. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Lysholm Knee Scoring (LKS) were observed before and after the treatment, and the clinical efficacies of the two groups were also compared. Result The total effective rate was 94.3％ in the treatment group versus 80.0％ in the control group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After the treatment, the VAS and LKS scores were significantly changed in both groups (P<0.05). The VAS and LKS scores of the treatment group were significantly different from those of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Stone needle therapy plus medication is an effective method in treating early-mid stage senile KOA.

Background:In the newly published article,we presented a novel STR-based diagnostic strategy for trisomy.When applying the strategy to the detection of the copy number of the selected chromosome,it is necessary at first to construct a multi-marker diagnostic system for trisomy by selecting the optimal chromosome-specific STR markers from numerous STR polymorphisms in human genome.Objective:Attempting to provide a reliable method for selecting optimal STR markers to construct a diagnositic system of high efficiency,in this study,we further described the quantitative evaluation of single STR marker and multimarker system during the marker selection.Methods:We deduced the formulae of three-allele detection rae(TDR)and the probability that three different alleles are observed in a diagnostic system.(P),by which we can quantitatively evaluate efficacy of a STR marker and cumulative efficacy of a multi-marker diagnostic system.Furthermore,we applied them to a multi-marker diagnostic system for trisomy 21 which was constructed in the previous study.Results:The TDR values of nine STR markers in our diagnostic system for trisomy 21 ranged from 0.203 to 0.638.The probability that three different alleles are observed in the system is above 0.95.Conclusion:The numerical values obtained from the formulae can provide a basis for the selection of optimal STR markers and the determination of the number of STR markers needed in a system with high efficacy.

The flavonoids are the active ingredients of many Chinese materia medica, with widespread biological activities and a wide range of clinical application. There are many types of flavonoids, and its chemical structure is complex. Quantitative analysis of only one or several valid / indexed components may not necessarily reflect the amount of total flavonoids, with some limitations. The content determination of total flavonoids in effective parts of Chinese materia medica is an important aspect of quality control. The main methods for determining total flavonoid content are as follows: UV-visible spectropho-tometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, thin layer chromatography, as well as near-infrared spectroscopy and so on. In this article, the methods and characteristics in the determination of total flavonoids in Chinese materia medica were reviewed, so as to provide references for the quality control of Chinese materia medica.

OBJECTIVETo explore the dynamic changes of transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) of liver cirrhosis induced by multiple pathogenic factors in rats.

METHODSAnimals in the cirrhosis group were fed a mixture of maize flour, lard, cholesterol and alcohol plus subcutaneously injection with carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄), the CCl₄(0.5 ml/100 g · w) was injected at the first day of experiment and the 40% CCl₄oil solution (0.3 ml /100 g · w) was injected at an interval of three days. The thirty-six male SD rats were randomly divided into liver cirrhosis group of the 4th, 6th and 8 th week, and normal control group of the 4th, 6th and 8th week. The contents of alanine transferase (ALT), endotoxin, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and homocysteine (Hcy) in plasma were evaluated. Histopathological changes of the liver were observed under microscope with the staining of HE. The expressions of TGF-α and TGF-β1 were analyzed by the method of immunohistochemistry.

RESULTSCompared with the corresponding normal control group, the levels of ALT, endotoxin, TNF-α and Hcy in plasma were gradually significantly increased in liver cirrhosis group of the 4th, 6th and 8th week (P < 0.05); the expression of TGF-α in the liver tissues was significantly increased at the 4th week (P < 0.05); the expression of TGF-β1 in the liver tissues was gradually significantly increased in every model group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONIn the formation process of cirrhosis, the expression of TGF-α was increased in liver of cirrhosis group at the 4th week, and later it was suppressed; the expression of TGF-β1 was continuously increased. The characteristic dynamic changes of TGF-α and TGF-β1 might be related to sustained endotoxemia, the high level of TNF-α and hyperhomocysteinemia.
