Chinese Journal of General Practitioners 2011;10(6):415-417
In total, 607 bedridden patients aged 60 years and over at Tianlin community hospital and four other hospitals or at home-care in Shanghai were investigated with questionnaire, physical examinations and related laboratory tests. Contents of investigation include general situation, medical conditions, 24-hour recall of diet, intake of nutritional supplement preparation, and so on. As compare to the reference for nutrient intake of the elderly set in the Guide to Diet for Chinese Residents (2007), total nutritional intake was obviously insufficient and three nutrients in diet were imbalanced for most bedridden elderly patients. Intake of most nutrients (including proteins, dietary fiber, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, phosphor, retinol equivalent, vitamin B1 , vitamin B2, vitamin C) was obviously low in bedridden elderly patients, with a larger gap from the requirements of the Dietary Guide.

OBJECTIVETo describe the current status of mortality breast cancer in Chinese females between 2004 and 2005, as well as its developing trend from 1973 to 2005.
METHODSThe data of female breast cancer deaths and number of female under exposure were collected through the Third National Mortality Retrospective Sampling Survey, which covered a total of 69 690 241 person years of females. The data was descriptively analyzed, and compared with the data of time-trend of breast cancer mortality in the previous two surveys in 1973 - 1975 and 1990 - 1992 respectively.
RESULTSThe crude mortality of female breast cancer in China in 2004 - 2005 was 5.90 per 100 000 (4112/69 690 241), ranking the sixth most common cancer death in Chinese females, and accounted for 5.90% (4112/69 667) of all female deaths from cancer. The crude mortality of female breast cancer was 6.86/100 000 (1777/25 900 856) in the eastern China, 5.91/100 000 (1431/24 225 738) in the central China and 4.62/100 000 (904/19 563 647) in the western China. The age-standardized mortality among Chinese standard population of female breast cancer in urban area (4.91/100 000, 1899 death cases) was 1.44 times higher than that in rural area (3.42/100 000, 2213 death cases). The crude mortality increased 99.99% from 1973 - 1975 (2.95/100 000) to 2004 - 2005 (5.90/100 000), the absolute figure increased by 2.95/100 000. The age-standardized mortality among Chinese standard population increased 37.85% from 1973 - 2005 (2.88/100 000) to 2004 - 2005 (3.97/100 000), the absolute figure increased 1.09/100 000.
CONCLUSIONThe mortality of female breast cancer in urban area was higher than that in rural area, and it decreased from the eastern China, to the central China and to the western China in turn. The mortality of female breast cancer has constantly increased in China since 1973.

Electronic case report forms (eCRFs) instead of the traditional paper case report forms (pCRFs) are increasingly used by investigators and sponsors of clinical research. We include a total of 14 phase III studies (8 pCRF, 6 eCRF) to compare paper and electronic data documentation both quantitatively and qualitatively in clinical studies. The result suggests that adaptions of electronic data capture (EDC) in clinical trials have the advantages in optimization of data capture process, improvement of data quality and earlier clinical decision compared to paper-based methods. Furthermore, the successful implementation of EDC requires accouplements with corresponding data management processes and reallocation of resources.

Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases 2009;27(1):39-43
Objective To compare the mutation sites in human immunodefieiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) vpr gene via of HIV-1 infected individuals from different regions in China with the previous studies, and to provide information for the further study on the relationship between HIV-1 vpr gene mutations and clinical conditions of the patients. Methods Reverse transcription-polymerasc chain reaction (RT-PCR) and nested PCR were used to amplify HIV-1 vpr gene of 398 HIV-1 infected individuals. The amino acid sequences were analyzed to determine polymorphisms, deviation rate and common mutation sites of HIV-1 vpr gene. Meanwhile, the viral load, subsets of lymphocytes and clinical course of patients infected with mutated HIV-1 were analyzed. Results One hundred and fifty three positive samples which were obtained from 398 HIV-1 infected individuals were available for further analysis. The amino acids sequence typing of HIV-1 Vpr were showed that CRF01 AE was 51.63%, subtype C 24.84%, subtype B 17.65%, CRF03_ AB 3.92% and CRF08 BC 1.31%. Eighty four point three percent of 77th amino acid of HIV Vpr sequence was glutamic acid which was significantly different from what overseas researches reported that the R77Q mutation was correlated with long-term non-progression (LTNP) of AIDS. The mutations of the, 63th, 70th, 85th, 86th, 89th and 94th amino acids of HIV Vpr were likely related to the clinical remission of HIV-1 infected individuals. Conclusions M group is the main type of HIV Vpr typing in China, and CRF01 AE is predominant. Some amino acid mutation sites of HIV-1 Vpr are possibly correlated with clinical manifestations of HIV-1 infected individuals.

To control the quality of Humulus scandens, the quality standard was established in this study. According to the method recorded in the Appendix of Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 Edition) , the water and ash inspections were carried out. The component luteoloside and cosmosiin in Humulus scandens were identified and assayed by TLC and HPLC. The results showed a strong characteristics microscopic of Humulus scandens, and trichoromethane-methanol-formic acid (10: 3: 0. 3) as the mobile phase of TLC, the spots at 365 nm with a UV lamp was clear. The 16 batches of samples were analyzed by HPLC with a gradient elution of acetonitrile and phosphate solution (0.2%) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL · min(-1) and detected at 350 nm. The content of luteoloside was 0.015%- 0.651% (average 0.148%); the content of cosmosiin was 0.003%-0.118% (average 0.036%). The linear calibration curve of luteoloside and cosmosiin was acquired in the ranges of 0.011-0.364 g · L(-1) (r = 1.000 0) and 0.003-0.096 g · L(-1) (r = 1.000 0), respectively. The average recovery was 100.5% and 98.5%, respectively. The methods are convenient and reliable, which can be ap- plied for quality assessment of Humulus scandens.
