International Eye Science 2006;6(1):25-26
AIM: To evaluate the changes in central corneal thickness (CCF) caused by mydriasis with Mydrin-P.METHODS: A total of 106 eyes of 53 patients with refractive errors were studied. Each eye had instillation of Mydrin-P to obtain mydriasis. CCT was examined before and after mydriasis using ultrasonic pachymeter.RESULTS: CCT increased significantly after mydriasis with Mydrin-P.CONCLUSION: Mydrin-P can affect the measurement of CCT.

Accessory navicular source flatfoot is one of the foot deformity of clinical common disease, its treatment method is more controversial, differences in clinical efficacy of different surgical methods, according to accessory navicular source flatfoot symptoms of surgical treatment, there is no uniform standard, around a pair of accessory navicular excision how to reconstruct the arch produced a series of operation methods, the clinical curative effect of different operative methods produce also different, how to develop the operation strategy, choose operation method, and after acessory navicular excision whether to rebuild posterior tibial tendon, how to rebuild, the problems such as how to rebuild is the research hotspot and difficulty, looking forward to further research.

Objective:To study the effects of Anti-DR5 mAb on inducing synovial cells of adjuvant arthritis (AA) rats and its mechanisms. Methods:AA was induced by CFA in rats. The synovial cells of rats were separated and cultured in vitro system. The apoptosis induced by anti-DR5 mAb on synovial cells was measured by MTT analysis,DNA fragmentation and flow cytometry.Caspase-3 and Bcl-2 expression in synovial cells were detected by Western blot. The involvement of the apoptotic pathway was further proved by a caspase inhibition assay. Results:MTT result showed that Anti-DR5 mAb could inhibit synovial cells growth. And flow cytometry suggested that the cell death mode was apoptosis. The protein level of caspase-3 in synovial cells treated with anti-DR5 mAb was raised, while Bcl-2 level declined. When the caspase inhibitor was added to the synovial cells treated with anti-DR5 mAb,it was showed in a dose-dependence inhibition effect, indicating that anti-DR5 mAb inducing apoptosis might be through the caspase pathway.Conclusion:Anti-DR5 mAb could induce synovial cell apoptosis through caspase pathway. And this effect may be related to the protein level of Caspase-3 and Bcl-2.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(11):-
Pepole pay more attention to the medicinal value and health function of Monascus day by day, however, the existence of citrinin restricted the further development of Monascus products heavily. How to ruduce the content of citrinin is a problem need to be solved urgently.Briefly introduced the toxicity, the biosynthetic pathway, and the relative standards of citrinin in monascus. According to the research progress on citrinin, the strategies of citrinin control were described from the three aspects of fermentation technology, mutation breeding, and genetic engineering. The expectation about the direction of citrinin in the future was also discussed.

Microbiology 1992;0(01):-
Phaffia rhodozyma is a good strain for astaxanthin production. An over-producing mutant YB-20-29 was obtained by means of Cs137-?ray and N-methy1-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidin (NTG) treatment. The biomass for this strain by shake culture was 36.32 g/L, the pigment content was 1216.0 ?g/g, an increase of 308% compare to o-riginal strain. The astaxanthin content in broth was 30.9?g /mL. It was a potential strain for astaxanthin over-production.

BACKGROUNDTo observe the efficacy and toxicity of gemcitabine plus carboplatin (GCarb) versus gemcitabine plus cisplatin (GCis) in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODSForty patients with histologically confirmed NSCLC were randomized to enter the study. GCarb group:Gemcitabine 1 000 mg/m² IV on day 1,8; carboplatin AUC 4-6 IV on day 1. GCis group: Gemcitabine 1 000 mg/m² IV on day 1,8; cisplatin 30-40 mg/m² IV on day 1-3.
RESULTSThe response rate was 65% and 60% for GCarb group and GCis group respectively (P > 0.5). Toxicities included myelosuppression, digestive reaction, alopecia and rash. Digestive toxicity in GCarb group was less than that in GCis group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSBoth GCarb and GCis regimes can be used as first-line protocol in the chemotherapy of non small cell lung cancer.

Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2005;8(6):513-515
OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression of inductive nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and their relations with clinicopathological parameters in colonic carcinoma.
METHODImmunohistochemistry (streptomycin avidin-biotin peroxidase complex, SP) was used to detect the expression of iNOS, VEGF, collagen IV, FVIII Ag in colonic adenocarcinoma, and micro vessel density (MVD) was counted.
RESULTSThe positive rates of iNOS and VEGF in colonic carcinoma were 76% and 80% respectively. The MVD in iNOS-positive carcinoma and iNOS-negative carcinoma were 37.0+/- 5.7 and 30.5+/- 4.9. The MVD in VEGF-positive carcinoma and VEGF-negative carcinoma were 39.5+/- 8.5 and 30.7+/- 4.4. The expressions of iNOS and VEGF were positively correlated with MVD. The expression of VEGF was correlated with tumor invasion, differentiation and lymph no de metastasis, but not with patients age,sex and histologic type.
CONCLUSIONThe expression of iNOS and VEGF may play a role in the angiogenesis, metastasis and invasion of colonic carcinoma.
