Objective To develop an in vivo procedure f or His bundle pacing (HBP) and radio-frequency (RF) ablation of the atrio-ventricular node (AVN) guided by intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI). The procedure included a custom designed bipolar active fixation pacing lead and steerable delivery catheter, and a commercial RF generator and ablation catheter. Methods Six anesthetized- closed-chest canines were tested. The anatomy in the His bundle and AVN regions, and the onset of myocardial electro-mechanical activation were identified using ICE and TDI. The lead and RF ablation catheter were navigated using an ICE catheter (for local detailed imaging) and fluoroscopy (for global imaging). Surface QRS morphologies were recorded to confirm HBP and third degree block post-ablation. Results Direct His bundle pacing was achieved in one canine, and His + ventricular septal pacing in the remaining five. QRS width in sinus rhythm and HBP were ( 59.7-? 5.3-)ms and ( 82.8-? 16.6-)ms separately (P= 0.02-). The increased QRS width for HBP was due to early septal activation. HBP thresholds were ( 3.0-? 1.0-) volts at 0.5 ms (N=5 due to a late exit block). The mean procedure durations were: HBP 40 minutes (3 to 81 minutes), AVN ablation 3 minutes (2 to 5 minutes), and total X-ray exposure 13 minutes (1 to 55 minutes). Post-mortem analysis of the lead and ablation lesions confirmed correct anatomic localization for HBP and AVN ablation. Conclusions ICE provides precise anatomic guidance of HBP lead implantation and AVN ablation and can significantly reduce exposure to fluoroscopy.

Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2015;31(8):1184-1193
As an important material in pharmaceutical and chemical industry, β-alanine was mainly produced by chemical methods. L-aspartate-α-decarboxylase could catalyze the α-decarboxylation from L-aspartate to β-alanine. Determinations for specific activities of PanDs from Escherichia coli, Corynebacterium glutamicum and Bacillus subtilis were performed in this study (0.98 U/mg, 7.52 U/mg and 8.4 U/mg respectively). The optimal temperature and pH of PanDs from C. glutamicum and B. subtilis were 65 degrees C, pH 6.5 and 60 degrees C, pH 6.5 respectively. According to our research, PanD from B. subtilis could be more appropriate for industrial application because of the higher activity and thermostability when compared to PanDs from E. coli and C. glutamicum which had been the most studied. We also analyzed and discussed the special post-translation self-cleavage phenomenon and the mechanism based inactivation.

Objective To describe the characteristic MR findings in the brain in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and to assess the diagnostic value of conventional MR imaging and fractional anisotropy (FA) of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Methods Conventional MR imaging was performed in 14 clinically proved ALS patients and 12 age-matched normal controls. Contrast enhanced MR images were acquired in 2 patients. Axial and coronal DTI scans were performed in 10 patients and 12 normal controls with SE-EPI sequence. The b value was 1 000 s/mm 2, the number of diffusion sensitive gradient direction was 25. For quantitative assessment of the corticospinal tract (CST), FA value of bilateral CST was measured at the level of posterior limb (PL) of the internal capsule (IC) and the cerebral peduncle of the midbrain, respectively, and statistical analysis was performed. Results Focal slight low signal intensity on T 1WI and high signal intensity (hyperintense to gray matter) on T 2WI was demonstrated in 6 ALS cases (42.9%) in bilateral PL of the IC, and the high signal was longitudinally continuous from the PL to the cerebral peduncle on T 2WI coronal plane, corresponding to the course of CST. In another 8 ALS cases (57.1%), the focal slight low signal intensity on T 1WI and slight high signal intensity (isointense to gray matter) on T 2WI was revealed in bilateral PL of the IC. No abnormal contrast enhancement was detected in the 2 cases. In control group, the focal slight low signal intensity on T 1WI and slight high signal intensity (isointense to gray matter) on T 2WI was demonstrated in all 12 subjects in bilateral PL of the IC. FA values of the patient group were significantly lower than that of the control group at the level of the PL of the IC (F=7.38, P

BACKGROUND: There is lack of effective method for treating humerus nonunion, lilac plate can maintain the compact contact between fracture end and bone graft, accelerate bone union, as well as provide stability for bone union. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical effects of treating humerus nonunion by using lilac bone graft as plate combined with the external fixation.METHODS: Thirteen patients with nonunion of the humorous at Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery, Jinan Command General Hospital of Chinese PLA were selected, including 11 males and 2 females, aged 20 51 years, mean aged 35.5 years. All the patients were treated with Uiac bone graft and screws combined with the mono lateral external fixation. The bone healing was observed by X-ray film. Shoulder function and complications were measured by Neer score.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: All patients were followed up for 7-64 months, mean 38 months. Bony union was achieved in all patients within 6-10 months (mean 8.1 months). The activity function of shoulder and elbow was normal; and Neer scores were 71-96 (mean 87 scores). No infection, pain, prevalent fracture or nonunion occurred. The results demonstrated that using lilac bone graft as plate combined with the mono lateral external fixation is a good salvage operation for nonunion of the humerus.

Objective: The inhibition on the proliferation of colorectal carcinoma cell strain with different proliferative potential by ATRA was investigated in present study, which would benefit for the therapy of ATRA on colorectal carcinoma. Methods: The proliferation of LS174T and CW-2 colorectal carcinoma cell strain inhibited by ATRA was determined using cell observation, FACS and MTT methods. Results: The growth speed of LS174T cell strain was faster than that of CW-2. ATRA played a significant role on inhibiting the proliferation of LS174T and CW-2 cell strain and inducting the cell differetiation in vitro. Conclusions: ATRA could inhibit the growth of LS174T and CW-2 cell strain. ATRA could inhibit the proliferation of colorectal carcinoma cell and induce cell differentiation to some extent, which was correlated with the concentration of ATRA.

Background:Gastric cancer(GC)is the fourth commonly seen cancer in the world. The role of Notch signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of tumors has become a focus in related studies, however, the underlying mechanism of Notch1 in GC has not yet been fully understood. Aims:To investigate the expression and significance of Notch1 in human GC tissue. Methods:A total of 115 patients with GC admitted at Jiaxing First Hospital from October 2011 to July 2014 were enrolled. Expression of Notch1 in cancerous tissue and para-cancer noncancerous tissue was determined by immunohistochemistry. The correlation between expression of Notch1 and clinicopathological characteristics of GC was analyzed. Results:Expression rate of Notch1 in cancerous tissue was significantly higher than that in para-cancer noncancerous tissue(73. 9% vs. 3. 5% ,P < 0. 001). Notch1 expression in cancerous tissue was significantly correlated with depth of vascular involvement, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage of GC(P < 0. 05). Conclusions:Notch1 as a cancer-promoting gene is involved in the pathogenesis of GC,and has a close association with tumor invasion and metastasis.
