Objective To summarize imaging features of Kallmann syndrome (KS) in children and to improve diagnostic level of the disease.Methods The imaging manifestations of 13 patients with clinically proved KS were retrospectively studied.MRI of rhinencephalon and left wrist X-ray examinations were performed in all the 13 children.Ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis was implemented in the 8 of 13 patients.Results All the patients had abnormalities of olfactory system.Bilateral olfactory bulbs and tracts were absent in 9 patients.Unilateral olfactory bulbs and tracts were absent in 4 patients,in which contralateral olfactory bulbs and tracts were hypoplastic.These patients presented 2 aplastic,17 hypoplastic and 7 normal olfactory sulci.Anterior pituitary was hypoplastic in 3 patients.Bone age showed retardation in 6 of 13 patients.Bilateral testicles were small in all the 8 cases by ultrasound.Conclusions Aplastic or hypoplastic olfactory bulbs and tracts and sulci are seen in children with KS.Anterior pituitary dysplasia is present in part of patients and bone age backward happens in approximate half of the children.

Objective To detect the mutation of A379,we develop a TaqMan fluorogenic probe based amplification refractory mutation system (TaqMan-ARMS) and investigate whether the A379V variant and activity of Lp-PLA2 are the risk factors for CAD.Methods According to the amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS-PCR)combined with a TaqMan fluorogenic probe,we established and evaluated the assay teehnique of TaqMan-ARMS for measuring the genotype of variant.At the same time,we tested the aetivity of Lp-PLA2 in 395 patients with coronary heartdisease and 396 controls,whose clinical information [ages,CHO,GLU,TG,HDL,LDL,Hs-CRP,Lp (a)] were collected.Date was analyzed by using Independent-samples t test,Chi-square test,One-Way ANOVA,Binary Logistic Regression.Results CAD group had significantly higher Lp-PLA2 activity than the controls(31.51 nmol · ml-1 · min-1 ＞21.31 nmol ·ml-1 · min-1,F =16.40,P ＜ 0.001).Comparing the highest quartile of Lp-PLA2 activitv to the bottom quartile,OR was 7.50 (95％ CI:2.34-24.05) after adjustment for various traditional cardiovascular risk factors,including ages,sex,CHO,TG,Hs-CRP,Lp (a) and GLU; the genotype VV of A379V was associated with higher risk of CAD (OR =2.95; 95％ CI:1.22-7.15,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The TaqMan-ARMS real time PCR technique is established to analyze A379V genotype.Lp-PLA2 activity is significantly higher in CAD group and is a risk factor for CAD; the genotype VV of A379V is also a risk factor for CAD.

Objective To study the effect of listening to music with headphone or background music on pain reduction of patients undergoing colonoscopy. Methods 180 patients undergoing colonoscopy were randondy selected as the headphone group,background music group and the control group.The headphone group listened to relaxed music with headphone after measurement of vital signs.The background music group listened to relaxed music played by CD after measurement of vital signs.The control group did not listen to music.Pain degree was measured by pain intensity number scale during colonoscopy.Heart rate,blood pressure,saturation of blood oxygen and appraisal to the music by the former two groups were observed.Results Pain degree of the headphone group and the background music group was lower than that of the control group(P＜0.05).Pain degree of the headphone group was lower than that of the background music group with no significant difference(P＞0.05).Heart rate of the control group after colonoscopy was faster than before colonoscopy(P＜0.05).Conclusions Relaxed music can alleviate pain of patients undergoing colonoscopy.Listening to background music is a convenient and economical method for alleviation of pain without any side effects for patients undergoing colonoscopy.

Objective To observe the effect of ischemic postconditioning on myocyte apoptosis in hyperlipemia rats with myocardial ischemic reperfusion.Methods Total forty-eight hyperlipemia SD rats were randomly divided into the sham-operation group, ischemic reperfusion group and ischemic postconditioning group with 16 rats in each group. The myocardial ischemic reperfusion model of rat was made. Rats in the ischemic reperfusion group were ligated for 40 min ischemia, and then reperfused for 240 min. Rats in the ischemic postconditioning group were treated for 40 min ischemia, reperfused for 10 s and 10 s ischemia for three cycles, and then reperfused for 240 min. Rats in the sham-operation group were opened the chest to braid for ringer without deligation. The presence of apoptotic myocytes was detected by the method of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling (TUNEL). Meanwhile, the serum creatine kinase activity and myocardial infarct size were measured.Results The creatine kinase activity was 734.86±25.48 U/L in the ischemic postconditioning group and 967.64±28.16 U/L in the ischemic reperfusion group after reperfusion, all significantly higher than that (274.28±16.94 U/L) in the sham-operation group ( P<0.05), and it was significantly lower in the ischemic postconditioning group than that in the ischemic reperfusion group ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in ratio of myocardial ischemic size and left ventricle after reperfusion between the ischemic postconditioning group and the ischemic reperfusion group. But the ratio of myocardial necrotic size and ischemic size of the ischemic postconditioning group was 24.8%±6.7% and significantly lower than that (38.2%±7.1%) of the ischemic reperfusion group ( P<0.05). No apoptotic myocardial cells were found after the reperfusion in the sham-operation group. The apoptotic rate in the ischemic postconditioning group (12.7%±2.8%) was significantly lower than that (20.9%±3.7%) in the ischemic reperfusion group ( P<0.05).Conclusion Ischemic postconditioning can relieve the ischemic reperfusion injury in hyperlipemia rats, the mechanism of which may be related with decreased myocardial apoptosis.

Objective To understand biochemistry study situation in clinical medicine undergraduates and to improve biochemistry teaching quality.Methods Totally 120 clinical medicine undergraduates were enrolled randomly to receive investigation on problems related to biochemistry.Corresponding statistic analysis was made using softwares of Excel and SPSS 16.0 in view of the main problems.Results One hundred and twenty copies of survey questionnaires were finished.There were 114 effective copies and the effective rate was 95％ after checking on these questionnaires.61.4％ of the students neither liked nor disliked biochemistry course; 56.1％ of the students thought that learning biochemistry was difficult; students thought that chapter 4 sugar metabolism,chapter 5 lipid metabolism and chapter 6 biological oxidation to be very difficult.Only 11％ of the students did preview,further analysis found positive relation between preview and understanding (rj =0.288,P ＜ 0.01 ).Conclusion Clinical medicine undergraduates like biochemistry insufficiently with few doing preview.It suggests that teachers should pay attention to the cultivation and stimulation of students' interest in biochemistry course,improve teaching method for the difficult sections,strengthen experiment teaching and try combination and separation teaching mode.

Objective To investigate the expression and location of Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in human salivary gland tumors and the effect of MMP-9 in soft and neural invasion,and to find whether there will be a rational option to treat saliary gland tumors by inducing MMP-9,especially saliary malignant tumors.Methods A total of 140 cases of human salivary gland tumors,including 32 cases of plemorphic adenoma tissues,28 cases of basal cell,adenoma tissues,40 case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma tissues,16 case of carcinomatous metastasis,24 case of no metastasis,18 cases of neurotropism,22 of case non-neurotropism,adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues of 40 cases and normal human salivary tissues of 10 cases were detected the expression and location of MMP-9 by PV-9000 polymer detection system for immunohistoch emical staining mcthod.The relationship between the expression and clinical pathological behaviors was analyzed.Results The positive rate of MMP-9 expression in salivary gland malignant tumors,salivary gland benign tumors and normal salivary glands was 72.5％,30.0％ and 10.0％ ( x2 =32.12,P ＜ 0.01 ).The positive rate of MMP-9 was 93.75％ (15/16) in the mucoepidermoid carcinoma tissue,which was signicantly different from that of 66.67％ (16/24) in the carcinomatous metastasis group ( x2=4.038,P ＜ 0.05 ).The positive rate of MMP-9 in the normal human salivary tissues,adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues and mucoepidermoid carcinoma tissues was 10.0％ (1/10),67.5％ (27/40) and 77.5(31/40) (x2=16.263,P＜0.005).Significant difference was found between groups of neurotropism and non-neurotropism on the positive rate of MMP-9 expression in adenoid cystic carcinoma(94.44％ vs 63.63％,x2=5.389,P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusion MMP-9 is correlated with the invasion and metastasis of malignant salivary gland tumors,and can be used as an indicator of potential metastasis.The finding suggests that MMPs suppressor combined with antiangiogenic agents might be a new option to treat saliary gland tumors.
