Objective To observe the adverse effects of passive smoking on antioxidant capacity and spermiogenesis of the testis and epididymides in rats.Methods SD rats were exposed to smoke in a self-made passive smoking chamber twice a day for 48 days.At the end of the experiment,the right testis and epididymides homogenate were prepared and the level of SOD,GSH-Px, NOS,NO and MDA were measured respectively.The sperms of left epididymides were observed by light microscope for determining sperm density,motility,progressive motility,fast progressive motility.The microstructure changes of left testis were observed.Results In passive smoking group,the level of MDA was significantly increased(P

The shortage of human hearts has brought the current research focus on finding an animal source as substitute hearts.The immunological barriers to cardiac xenotransplantation are now more clearly defined,allowing retrospective interpretation of past clinical experience in humans.Due to physiological compatibilities as well as ethical and infectious considerations,pigs have now emerged as the most likely source of future xenografts.With the introduction of transgenic pigs expressing human complement regulatory proteins and new immunosuppressive strategies have shown early promise in the laboratory,cardiac xenotransplantation has been the social focus.This article explores ethical issues that surround developments in this field.

Medical students' education of medical ethics is now influenced by many unfavorable factors,such as absence of humanities quality,weakening belief in ideality and shock from the market economy.General education may play an important role in strengthening humanities quality and belief in ideality among medical students,and correcting their cognition of the market economy.Therefore,it is necessary to deepen general education on strengthening medical students' education of medical ethics.

Objective To observe the level of social support and self-efficacy of the breast cancer patients with postoperative chemotherapy, and study the relationship between them. Methods 76 patients were investigated with Social Support Rating Scale and Strategies Used by Patients to Promote Health (SUPPH). Results The total and every dimension scores of SUPPH and Social Support decreased in the patients. The total and every dimension scores of Social Support positively correlated with every dimension scores of SUPPH (P<0.01). Conclusion The level of self-efficacy and social support may relate each other.

Psychosurgery, the neurosurgical treatment for psychiatric disorders, has a long and controversial history. The review introduces the birth of psychosurgery, the rise and fall of the frontal lobotomy and the transition to the modern era of psychosurgery, due to the development of the stereotactic instruments, and the different psychosurgical procedures. Today, recent advances in neuromodulation may provide an opportunity for psychosurgery to become a more attractive option for the treatment of psychiatric diseases. Current states in China and prospects of psychosurgery are also discussed.

Objective To evaluate the surgical effect of the surgical removal of both medial temporal lobe lesion and hippocampus amygdala for treating epilepsy. Methods Retrospectively analyzed 18 cases of epilepsy induced by the medial temporal lobe lesion and their hippocampal epileptic discharge was recorded by the deep electrode. Removed both medial temporal lobe lesion and hippocampus amygdala through medial temporal gyrus by modified pterional approach. The lesion had been totally removed in all of these 18 cases in naked eye. Evaluated the effect of surgery for epilepsy by Engel grading scale. Results These cases were followed up for average 2.8 years. Engel Ⅰ for 13 cases, Engel Ⅱ for 4 cases, Engel Ⅲ for 1 cases, Engel Ⅳ for none after operation. But there were lateral 1/4 quadrantanopsia in 2 cases, recent memory decreasing in 3 cases and none of death or any other complication. Conclusion Surgical removal of both medial temporal lobe lesion and hippocampus amygdala is a safe and effective method for treating epilepsy with less complication.

Objective To detect steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) expression in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice at different ages and serum lipid levels. Methods Nighty-six C57BL/6J and apoE-/- mice were enrolled, which were divided into 16 groups with 6 mice per group according to age (1 day, 1, 3, 5 months), sex and genotype (C57BL/6J and apoE-/-). The serum lipid levels in C57BL/6J and apoE-/- mice were detected by commercial kits. StAR mRNA and protein expressions in liver were detected by Real-time PCR and Western blot respectively. Results ApoE-/- mice had higher LDL-cholesterol and lower HDL-cholesterol compared with C57BL/6J mice of the same age and sex. StAR mRNA and protein expressions were decreased following with aging in C57BL/6J mice. However, in apoE-/- mice with higher lipid levels, StAR mRNA and protein expressions were changed with the lipid levels other than ages. StAR mRNA and protein increased in the early stage, and then decreased with the increasement of lipids levels. Conclusions StAR could affect lipids levels and may be an effective regulator for atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases.

Objective:To investigate the possible role of miR-181d in regulating the multidrug resistance (MDR) of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and its clinical significance. Methods: Quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (QRT-PCR) and Western blot were used to investigate the differential expression of miR-181d and BCL2 from mRNA and protein levels in the chemo-sensitivity cell H69 and the chemo-resistance cell H69AR. The miR-181d expression in H69AR was then upregulated. More-over, CCK8 assay was employed to detect the sensitivities of the cells to chemotherapy drugs, such as ADM, DDP, and VP-16. Mean-while, the expression of miR-181d in the specimens of 87 cases with SCLC were detected using QRT-PCR. All patients received the chemotherapeutic regimen of EP (etoposide+cisplatin). Correlation of the miR-181d expression with clinicopathological features, prog-nosis, and survival time of the patients was studied. Results:miR-181d was downregulated in the SCLC multidrug-resistant cell line H69AR and chemo-resistant patients. Moreover, miR-181d was concurrent with the upregulation of BCL2 protein compared with the parental H69 cell line and chemo-sensitive patients (P<0.001). miR-181d expression in H69 cells resistant to chemotherapy drugs (ADM, DDP, and VP-16) was inhibited (P<0.01). Enforced miR-181d expression reduced the BCL2 protein level and sensitized H69AR cells to chemotherapy drugs (P<0.01). miR-181d expression was associated with tumor stage, sensitivity of chemotherapy, and survival time (all P<0.001). Patients with high miR-181d expression had longer overall survival and progress-free survival time com-pared with those with low miR-181d expression (P<0.001). Conclusion: miR-181d may play a role in the development of MDR in SCLC and may be a potential predictive factor for treatment efficacy.

ObjectiveTo investigate the neural mechanism of prospective memory(PM) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).MethodsFifteen healthy volunteers were enrolled,and all subjects were scanned with fMRI while performing the event-based PM tasks (double-task paradigm,including the ongoing task and PM task).And the image data were preprocessed and analyzed by using SPM8 software.Results ( 1 ) Compared to the control task,bilateral rostral prefrontal cortex ( x,y,z =6/- 2,54/42,- 8/- 12,t =3.71 ),right somatosensory association area ( x,y,z =14,- 62,64,t =4.64 ),superior temporal gyrus ( x,y,z =42,- 46,16,t =3.95 ) and right paracentral lobule (x,y,z =10,-22,76,t =4.01 ) were activated significantly by the ongoing task (P ＜ 0.001 ).(2) Bilateral rostral prefrontal cortex ( x,y,z =- 2/6,42/54,- 12/- 12,t =3.28) and paracentral lobule (x,y,z =- 30/10,- 22/- 22,72/76,t =4.25 ),left postcentral gyrus ( x,y,z =- 38,- 46,64,t=3.13) and middle occipital gyrus ( x,y,z =- 30,- 70,0,t =3.97 ) were activated significantly by the PM task (P ＜ 0.001 ).ConclusionRostral prefrontal cortex (BA 10 area) is the major area of prospective memory,and medial BA10 area may be involved in the monitoring of external cues.The present study supports the gateway hypotheses of prospective memory.
