Neurogenesis is a process in which the neuronal stem cells differentiate into functional neurons including the cell proliferation, differentiation and migration.Previously,it was believed that neurogenesis is a prenatal process and the adult ependymal cells are incapable of regeneration. Now it is clear that mammalian brain retains the ability to generate new ceils in specific regions. One of the regions is subventricular zone of the lateral ventricles, new generated neurons and glial cells later migrate to olfactory and repair dysosmia through the RMS road. Here we will review the advances in adult neurogenesis in mammal subventficular zone.

Objective To study the effects of 5-HT1A receptor in hippocampal dentate gyrus on anxiety behavior of adult rats with Parkinson's disease (PD).Methods PD model in rats was constructed by using 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) to lesion the medial forebrain bundle (MFB).In lesioned rats and sham-operated rats,we examined the changes of the number of TFH-positive neurons in the SNc and VTA.We also examined how 5-HT1A receptor of hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) modulates the anxiety-related behavior using open field test and elevated plus-maze test, and examined monoamine neurotransmitter changes in the striatum, medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC),amygdale and ventral hippocampus using reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. Results In 6-OHDA-lesioned rats, the SNc of the injected side showed a total loss of TH-ir neurons compared with the unlesioned side, and the number of TH-ir neurons in the VTA on the lesioned side decreased significantly to (34± 2)%.The locomotor activity in 6-OHDA-lesioned rats decreased compared with that in sham-operated rats.Unilaterally lesioning the MFB decreased the percentage of time spent in the center in the open-field test and percentages of open arm entries and open arm time of elevated plus maze test when compared with sham-operated rats.In the sham-operated rats,intra-DG injection of 8-OH-DPAT did not affect anxiety-like behavior. In 6-OHDA-lesioned rats,intra-DG injection of 8-OH-DPAT significantly increased the percentage of time spent in the center at a dose of 100 ng and 500 ng when compared with saline injection into the DG.Injection of WAY-100635 did not affect rats in the two groups.Unilateral 6-OHDA lesions of the MFB in rats significantly decreased DA levels in the ipsilateral striatum,mPFC,amygdale and ventral hippocampus compared with those in sham-operated rats, but had no effect on 5-HT or NA levels in those structures. Conclusion Unilateral 6-OHDA lesion of the MFB not only totally damaged DA neurons in SNc and partly damaged DA neurons in VTA,but also decreased DA level in the ipsilateral striatum,mPFC,amygdale and ventral hippocampus.Unilateral 6-OHDA lesion of the MFB induces anxiety-related behavior, and activation of 5-HT1A receptor in the hippocampal dentate gyrus has anxiolytic effect in the rat model of Parkinson's disease.

The Korean Journal of Orthodontics 2023;53(4):232-240
Objective:
This study aimed to evaluate the zygomaticotemporal suture (ZTS) maturation, analyze the age distribution patterns of ZTS maturation stages, and investigate the relationship between ZTS and cervical vertebral maturation (CVM).
Methods:
A total of 261 patients who underwent cone-beam computed tomography (112 males, mean age, 13.1 ± 3.3 years; 149 females, mean age, 13.7 ± 3.1 years) were examined to evaluate the ZTS stages. The ZTS stages were defined based on a modified method from previous studies on zygomaticomaxillary sutures. Differences between groups and correlations between indicators were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test, intraclass coefficient of correlation (ICC), one-way analysis of variance and rank sum test.Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. The diagnostic value of CVM stages in identifying ZTS maturation stages was evaluated using positive likelihood ratios (LRs).
Results:
A positive relationship was found between the ZTS and CVM stage (r = 0.747, ICC = 0.621, p < 0.01) and between the ZTS stage and chronological age (r = 0.727, ICC = 0.330, p < 0.01). Positive LRs > 10 were found for several cervical stages (CSs), including CS1 and CS2 for the diagnosis of stage B, CS1 to CS3 for the diagnosis of stages B and C, and CS6 for the diagnosis of stages D and E.
Conclusions
The ZTS maturation stage may be more relevant to the CVM stage than to the chronological age. The CVM stages can be good indicators for clinical decisions regarding maxillary protraction, except for CS4 and CS5.

Objective To explore the expression profile of the JAK/STAT pathway in patients with acute myeloid leukemia(AML)and to analyze its impact on the survival prognosis of patients. Methods This study compared differentially expressed genes between AML patients and healthy controls in 2 independent cohorts(n=64,n=121),and these genes were enriched by pathways. The expression levels of JAKs and STATs genes were compared between AML patients and healthy controls. The clinical values of JAK/STAT genes were analyzed using gene expression data, patients'clinical and prognostic information from 2 AML cohorts(n=163,n=403).Results Gene microarray expression results in 26 AML patients and 38 healthy controls showed 1266 genes with significantly differential expression(Padj≤0.05,| log2FC| ≥0.5),of which 426 genes were significantly upregulated in AML patients and 840 genes were significantly downregulated in AML patients.Pathway enrichment of these genes was performed in the JAK/STAT pathway, which was found to be active in AML patients(P<0.05).Comparison of mi-croarray data from the GSE1159 cohort(n=121)showed AML patients had higher levels of JAK1(P=0.019),J AK2(P=0.047)and STAT4(P<0.001)gene expression than the healthy controls, and their STAT5A(P=0.028)and STAT6(P=0.022)gene expression levels were lower than those in the healthy controls.Univariate survival analysis identified shorter over-all survival(P=0.02,HR=1.463;P=0.041,HR=1.293)and event-free survival(P=0.01,HR=1.510)in patients with high STAT4 expression than in those with a lower STAT4 expression in the TCGA and GSE6891 cohorts(n=163;n=403).Univa-riate and multifactorial COX analyzes confirmed that high STAT4 expression was an independent prognostic risk factor for AML patients(EFS:P=0.002,HR=1.958;OS:P=0.036,HR=1.556).Conclusion In AML patients, the JAK/STAT path-way is activated, and the STAT4 expression level is higher than that of the healthy controls.High expression of STAT4 suggest poor prognosis, wihich is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of AML patients.
9.The Role of Exosomes in Force-Related Periodontal Inflammatory Response
Journal of Medical Biomechanics 2022;37(2):E369-E373
Exosomes are extracellular vesicles secreted by cells with a variety of molecular components, which can play the role of substance transport and signal communication between cells through autocrine and paracrine. Exosomes exist widely in vivo and participate in many physiological and pathological processes, including force-related periodontal inflammation. There are stress receptor cells in the periodontium, which can sense force loading on the tooth. An appropriate amount of mechanical loading can maintain health of the periodontium, while excessive mechanical loading may cause destruction and absorption of the periodontium, leading to periodontal inflammation. This article reviews the role of exosomes in force-related inflammation response, especially in periodontal inflammation response.
