OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of stress imposed on adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), therefore to clarify the molecular basis and mechanism of ACC's malignant phenotype under the elevated tumor interstitial fluid pressure.
METHODSACC cells were cultured under pressure (103.74 kPa), and were divided into four groups (3 h group, 6 h group, 12 h group, 24 h group) according the pressure time. Untreated ACC2 was as negative control group, untreated ACCM was as positive control group. The level of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was detected by semiquantitative analysis of immunochemistry. Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) and EGFR mRNA expression were assessed by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. EGFR, phosphorylation epidermal growth factor receptor (P-EGFR), MMP9, keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and phosphorylation extracellular signal-regulated kinase (P-ERK) protein expressions were assessed by Western blot.
RESULTSAs the extension of pressure time, the expression of EGFR, P-EGFR, MMP9, KGF, P-ERK in ACC2 gradually increased, which were positive correlation with pressure time, and were higher than that of negative control group.
CONCLUSIONUnder the stimulation of pressure, the mRNA and protein levels of adhesion molecules and metastatic relative molecules in ACC2 were sharply elevated.

Lignin degradation products are toxic to microorganisms, which is one of the bottlenecks for fuel ethanol production. We studied the effects of phenolic ketones (4-hydroxyacetophenone, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-acetophenone and 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-acetophenone) derived from lignin degradation on ethanol fermentation of xylose and cellular lipid composition of Pichia stipitis NLP31. Ethanol and the cellular fatty acid of yeast were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Results indicate that phenolic ketones negatively affected ethanol fermentation of yeast and the lower molecular weight phenolic ketone compound was more toxic. When the concentration of 4-hydroxyacetophenone was 1.5 g/L, at fermentation of 24 h, the xylose utilization ratio, ethanol yield and ethanol concentration decreased by 42.47%, 5.30% and 9.76 g/L, respectively, compared to the control. When phenolic ketones were in the medium, the ratio of unsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids (UFA/SFA) of yeast cells was improved. When 1.5 g/L of three aforementioned phenolic ketones was added to the fermentation medium, the UFA/SFA ratio of yeast cells increased to 3.03, 3.06 and 3.61, respectively, compared to 2.58 of the control, which increased cell membrane fluidity and instability. Therefore, phenolic ketones can reduce the yeast growth, increase the UFA/SFA ratio of yeast and lower ethanol productivity. Effectively reduce or remove the content of lignin degradation products is the key to improve lignocellulose biorefinery.

Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine 2024;41(12):1446-1451
Perinatal depression is a psychological disorder that occurs during pregnancy and within one year of delivery, which can seriously affect the physical and mental health of pregnant and postpartum women, as well as the cognitive and behavioral abilities of offspring, with potential multigenerational effects. Therefore, it is important to identify its potential modifiable risk factors. Phthalic acid esters (PAEs), as common environmental endocrine disruptors, can affect maternal estrogen through multiple mechanisms and are important potential modifiable risk factors for developing maternal perinatal depression. At present, studies on the correlation between PAEs and perinatal depression are still very limited, and the mechanisms by which PAEs affect perinatal depression have not been clarified. Based on existing epidemiological and toxicological studies at home and abroad, the article briefly introduced the characteristics of multiple pathways, high doses, and long-term exposure to maternal PAEs, focused on reviewing the current status of epidemiological studies, pointed out the possible associations between some specific PAEs exposure and elevated risk of perinatal depression. It also summarized the potential roles of hormone-neurotransmitter pathway, inflammation mediation, gene regulation, and other possible mechanisms in the association between exposure to PAEs and perinatal depression. The article concluded with a look at how future research on the association between exposure to PAEs and perinatal depression can be scientifically validated, with a view to providing more high-quality evidence for the scientific prevention of the onset and progression of maternal depressive symptoms.

Objective To investigate the immediate effects of lower limb with open chain weight-adding on joint position sense and gait symmetry in stroke patients. Methods From January, 2016 to January, 2017, 39 stroke patients were included. Their joint position sense and gait symmetry were compared before and after weight-adding. The joint position senses of active reproduction of active positioning (ARAP) and passive reproduction of passive positioning (PRPP) were assessed during lower limb straight leg raise. The gait symmetry was also as-sessed and three indexes were recorded including the symmetry of foot rotation angle, step length and percentage of single leg support phase. Results After weight-adding, the position sense of PRPP did not improve (t=0.832, P=0.832), nor of the symmetry of foot rotation an-gle (t=-0.704, P=0.483) and percentage of single leg support phase (t=0.381, P=0.702);the position sense of ARAP improved (t=3.158, P=0.011), as well as the symmetry of step length (t=2.022, P=0.041). Conclusion The lower limb with open chain weight-adding could im-prove the active joint position sense and symmetry of step length.

8.Discuss the Pathogenesis and Treatment of Neck-shoulder Syndrome From"Liver Depression and Qi Stagnation"
Journal of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University 2024;48(9):1159-1162
[Objective]To elucidate the pathogenesis and treatment of neck-shoulder syndrome based on the viewpoint of"liver depression and Qi stagnation"of the theory of five viscera Qi activity.[Methods]From the viewpoint of"liver depression and Qi stagnation"in the theory of five viscera Qi and the etiology and pathogenesis of neck-shoulder syndrome, the theoretical correspondence between the two was discussed, and based on the viewpoint of"liver depression and Qi stagnation",it established the therapeutic principles and acupuncture prescriptions of neck-shoulder syndrome, and cited a case to support it.[Results]The viewpoint of"liver depression and Qi stagnation"is rooted in the liver governing Qi of the five viscera Qi activity theory, taking liver depression and Qi stagnation as the foundation. The pathogenesis of neck-shoulder syndrome is characterized by the mixture of asthenia and sthenia of the specimen, mainly liver dysfunction and Qi stagnation,on the basis of which it causes the formation or combination of stasis, dampness and other excess evils. To analyze the pathogenesis of neck-shoulder syndrome from"liver depression and Qi stagnation",acupuncture treatment should not only pay attention to liver and gallbladder, take into account Qi stagnation at the same time, but also pay attention to its evolution of stasis, dampness and other pathogenic factors, which are closely related to the generation of neck-shoulder syndrome. To guide the treatment of neck-shoulder syndrome with"liver depression and Qi stagnation"and related theories, should take dredging liver and gallbladder and Qi as the key,it is required to start from the acupuncture and moxibustion to harmonize the meridian-collateral Qi activity, and cooperate with the knife-edge needle, and clinical practice supports the rationality of the theory. The medical case listed was neck-shoulder syndrome, and the syndrome was liver depression and Qi stagnation. The main treatment was to dredge liver Qi to relieve pain, and the use of acupuncture and knife-edge needle had obtained better clinical effect.[Conclusion]The view of"liver depression and Qi stagnation"is consistent with the pathogenesis of neck-shoulder syndrome, which opens up a new way for the treatment of neck-shoulder syndrome.
