The biomarkers can facilitate the evaluation of the factors modulating susceptibility to carcinogens among human populations. As an indicator of DNA damage, carcinogen-DNA adducts represent a critical step on the carcinogenic pathway. Genetic differences in detoxification capabilities and the DNA repair efficiency may modulate PAH-induced DNA damage and carcinogenesis. Experimental animal studies have demonstrated that the fetus and infant are more susceptible to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) induced carcinogenesis than adults. Recent years, more and more studies have shown that the prenatal exposure to PAHs not only associated with the increasing risk of cancer, but also related to adverse birth outcomes. This paper reviewed the differential susceptibility to PAHs between the paired maternal and newborn and discussed the relationship between the DNA adducts levels and the gene polymorphisms.

This paper reported the estimation of free calcium concentration in rabbit resting lymphocytes, and the effect of (-) Daurisoline (8701) on the cyto-plasmic free calcium concentration by using fluorescent indicator Fura -2/Am estimating technique. Results were compared with the effect of the Ca2-ionophore A23187.The results indicated that the free calcium concentration of resting lymphocytes was 109. 6nmol ? L-1, after 10-5 mol? L-1,10-4.5 mol ? L-1,and 10-4 mol ? L-1-)Daurisoline administration, the cyto-plasmic free calcium concentration increased to 178. 8%, 204. 4%and 817. 5% respectively, while same concentration A23187 only led the increase of 164. 6% , 198.4% and 327% respectively. Results suggested that ( - )Daurisoline may be a Ca2- agonist and may induce the cytotoxicity effect on lymphocytes at high concentr ation.

OBJECTIVE To sdudy the characteristics of nosocomial infections in psychiatric hospital and to take the corresponding prevention measures to control. METHODS The epidemiological characteristics of nosocomial infections occurred in the patients treated in psychiatry department of our hospital from Jan 2003 to Dec 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS Of all 5741 patients, 367 cases were definitely diagnosed as nosocomial infection. The incidence was 6.39%, with a decreasing trend. Among these infections, upper respiratory tract infections accounted for 52.78%, lower respiratory tract infections for 13.26%, and gastrointestinal infections for 11.14%. Other sites infections were rare(11.41%). The respiratory tract infection occurred all the year around, especially in the winter, other sites (included skin) infections mainly occurred in the first and the third quarters. The gastrointestinal infection reached its highest in the summer. CONCLUSIONS The nosocomial infection in psychiatric hospital has some characteristics and regularities. These are related to the particularity of the patients, the long stay in hospital, and poor self-care ability. Accordingly, we can take reasonable measures to prevent and control nosocomial infection.

Totally, 125 elderly inpatients with aspiration pneumonia (AP) were enrolled from departments of respiratory medicine and neurology at Zhongnan Hospital, Wuhan during June 2005 to October 2009 for analysis. Results showed that listlessness was manifested in 70 cases (56%), primary neurological illness in 80 cases (64%), 57 of them (46%) complicated with respiratory failure and 26 died with case-fatality of 21%. Main pathogen for them was Gram-negative bacillus, accounting for 57% of the total. Two kinds or more of antibiotics had ever been administered in 98 cases (78%), with an average length of antibiotics use for 28 days, ranging from one day to 128 days. Nasal feeding was instituted for those with choking over their feeding and coughing, and their inspired feeding was aspirated from the trachea or bronchi and lavished with bronchoscopy, with 38 cases by tracheal intubation, 26 by tracheotomy and 42 with artificial ventilation. Their average duration of hospital stay spanned 28 days with an average cost of 25 000 RMB yuan per capita, significantly higher than that for those with common pneumonia. In conclusion, clinical features of these elderly patients with AP were not so typical, most of them manifest severe, with lots of medical cost and bad prognosis.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(06):-
In order to obtain some evidences of the role of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in regulating calcium metabolism, and explore the mechanisms by which PTH regulates calcium in the heart, 45Ca was used to study the influence of bovine PTH1-34 fragment (bPTH1-34) on calcium transsacolemma. The results indicate that bPTH1-34(l?I0-7mol ? L-1) increases beating rate of heart cells under normal state and it markedly increases the rapid (5 min) and the slow (120 min) phases of 45Ca influx in heartcells (under normal, KC1 10-5 mol?L-1 high K+depolarised, NA 10-7mol?L-1receptors activated states), but it could also reduce 45Ca efflux from the cultured heart cells. It suggests that the mechanisms caused by bPTH1-34 which enhances the cytosolic calcium concentration and myocardial beating rate may be related with cAMP level elevated in heart cells.

Objective To discuss the relationship between chronic bronchitis and meteorological conditions in Nanjing. Methods Took the record of the recrudescing time of 200 old chronic bronchitis patients for a year. The correlation between the changing of air temperature and pressure and the monthly chronic bronchitis recrudescing in a year was analyzed. The main meteorological conditions by which recrudescing were affected in different season were selected with multiple stepwise correlation analysis. Results There were chronic bronchitis patients recrudescing the whole year, but the most were in winter and the least in summer. The most recrudescing happened in December and April, and the least in May and July. The meteorological factors that affected chronic bronchitis patients recrudescing were air temperature, pressure and wind speed. The relative coefficient of case numbers between 24 hours variations of air temperature and pressure was 0.5762(P=0.0499) and 0.5841(P=0.0461), respectively. Conclusion The steady meteorological conditions are not good for recrudescing of chronic bronchitis patients. And temperature descent and high air pressure are the main meteorological factors that induce chronic bronchitis recrudescing.
