Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the primary tool in investigation of the brain science. It is necessary to carry out a deepgoing study into the characteristics and information hidden in EEGs to meet the needs of the clinical research. In this paper, we present a wavelet-nonlinear dynamic methodology for analysis of nonlinear characteristic of EEGs and delta, theta, alpha, and beta sub-bands. We therefore studied the effectiveness of correlation dimension (CD), largest Lyapunov exponen, and approximate entropy (ApEn) in differentiation between the interictal EEG and ictal EEG based on statistical significance of the differences. The results showed that the nonlinear dynamic char acteristic of EEG and EEG subbands could be used as effective identification statistics in detecting seizures.

Objective To evaluate the relationship between 1H-MRS features of brain glioma and its pathological grade and invasiveness, and the correlation between those features and the expression of VEGF, MMP-9 and uPA.Methods The brain gliomas in 55 patients confirmed by pathology were divided into two groups: high grade and low one.An analysis of intragroup and intergroup differences in some metabolite ratios of 1H-MRS in the tumor parenchyma was conducted.The expression of MMP-9,VEGF and uPA in brain glioma was detected,and the correlation between the above three parameters and changes in metabolite ratios of 1H-MRS were explored.Results There was significant difference and correlation in Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratio in the tumor parenchyma between high and low grade(P<0.01).The expression of VEGF and MMP-9 in tumor was significantly different(P<0.01) but with significant correlation(P<0.01),and there was no significant difference and correlation in NAA/Cr ratio and uPA expression(P>0.05).Conclusion VEGF and MMP-9 play an important role in the development of brain glioma.Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratios provide an important reference for preoperative grading of brain gliomas and indirectly reflect the expression of VEGF and MMP-9.

Objective To understand the prevalence and risk factors of non-suicidal self-injury in middle school students.Methods 1312 middle school students of Pengzhou and Santai were selected to fill in a Risky Behavior Questionnaire for Adoluscents (RBQ-A),Family Environment Scale ( FES ),Center for Epidemiological Survey,Depression Scale (CES-D),Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List (ASLEC),Social Support Scale for Adolescents (SSSA) and self-administered questionnaire.In all the research subjects,1288 were qualified for the study in April 2011 before the risk factors for non-suicidal self-injury were identified by logistic regression.Results In 1288 middle school students,22.67％ had a history of non-suicidal self-injury,with 22.70％ in boys and 22.64％ in girls.63.36％ of students had injured themselves through variouslyways,more seen in boys (26.88％) than in girls (11.36％ ) who cut or burnt themselves.The scores of ASLEC and CES-D in non-suicidal self-injury group appeared higher than that in the control group and the score of SSSA was found higher in the control group.The main risk factors for non-suicidal self-injuries were family conflict,depressive emotion,negative life events and receiving less social support.Conclusion The prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury among middle school students in Pengzhou was high,whicn called for more attention.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of using low volume of low concentration isotonic contrast medium for 320 row coronary CT angiography.Methods 64 patients whose heart rate 70 beats per minute or less,normal cardiac rhythm,BMI≤24 kg/m2 were scanned using a 320 row dynamic volume CT with the tube voltage of 100 kVp and injection of contrast medium with a concentration 270 mg I/mL.Prospective ECG gating technique and adaptive iterative dose reduction algorithm reconstruction were used.In group A,22 patients were injected 50 mL contrast medium by a rate of 5.0 mL/s.In group B,21 patients were injected with the dosage of contrast medium calculated by 0.7 mL/kg and injection rate was 4.5 mL/s.In group C,21 patients were injected with the dosage of contrast medium calculated by 0.6 mL/kg and the injection rate was 4.0 mL/s.The attenuation value,signal-to-noise(SNR),con-trast-to-noise ratio(CNR),image quality and iodine intake between three groups were compared using One-Way ANOVA .Results There was no significantly statistical difference of age,sex ratio,BMI,heart rate between the three groups (P >0.05).However,the dosage of the contrast agent and different injection time had statistical significance (P <0.05).The attenuation value from group A to group B and then to group C was on the decline,the CT value of group A was obviously higher than that of group B and group C,and the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05),and there was no significantly statistical difference between the group B and group C (P >0.05).The image quality,SNR and CNR in three groups did not have significant difference (P >0.05).The total iodine and iodine injection rate were lowest in group C.Conclusion In 320 row coronary CT angiography with 100 kVp tube voltage and iterative reconstruction algorithm,the patients whose heart rate 70 beats per minute or less,BMI≤24 kg/m2 injected the low concentration of contrast medium by 0.6 mL/kg dose injection can give a good image quality which can meet the diagnostic requirement.Mean-while,it can also reduce the iodine intake and the risk of contrast induced nephrology (CIN).

To investigate the neurotoxic effect of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) gp120 on cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG)neurons in vitro, dissociated and organotypic mouse embryo's DRG cell culture models were established. Both dissociated and organotypic DRG cultures were treated with HIV gp120 in different concentration (250 pmol/L and 1 nmol/L, respectively, 2 times/7 days). For dissociated DRG cultural cells, microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2) immunofluorescent labeling was processed for observing the changes of neuronal cell body and neurites. The change of the ultrastructure in the organotypic cultured DRG was observed by electron microscopy.The difference of the number and length of neurites between the control group and HIV gp120 treated groups were significant (P＜0.001),whereas there was no significant difference in the diameter of neurons between them (P＞0.05). The ultrastructural changes included the decrease or loss of cristae in mitochondria and accumulation of many high densed particles between the microtubules and the neurofilaments by using both the concentrations of HIV gp120 treatment. The present results indicate that HIV gp120 had a directly neurotoxic effect on the cultured DRG neurons, especially more sensitive to mitochondria.

Objective To detect the argyrophilic proteins in nucleolar organizer regions(Ag-NORs) that express rDNA and rRNA proliferation of T lymphocytes before chemotherapy and after complete remission(CR) in children with primary acute leukemia(AL).Methods The argyrophilic granules area of NOR/nuclear area(I.S%) of T lymphocytes was detected by image analysis system in peripheral blood of 42 patients before chemotherapy and after CR and 30 normal children.Results I.S% in the patients before chemotherapy(5.06%?1.36%) were significantly lower than those in the healthy donors(7.51%?1.06%)(t=8.238 P0.05).Conclusion These results suggest that decrease of Ag-NORs expresses the evidence for tumour induced suppression of immune function of T cells in children with AL prior to treatment.

OBJECTIVETo explore whether coal tar pitch smoke extract (CTP) induced pyroptosis in human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B).

METHODSBEAS-2B cells were treated with different concentrations of CTP (1, 3 µg/ml) for 8h and 24 h, respectively. Lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) levels in the supernatants of cell culture media were measured with LDH activity or human IL-1β ELISA kit, respectively. The activity of Caspase-1 was measured with Caspase-1 colorimetric assay kit.

RESULTSThe activity of caspase-1 in 1 and 3 µg/ml CTP groups were (9.29 ± 0.30) and (8.67 ± 0.59) µmol/ml respectively which were both significantly increased compared to that (7.42 ± 0.59) µmol/ml in the control group (P < 0.05) after 8 h exposure, but there was no significant difference in the activity of LDH and levels of IL-1β in the cell culture media among the CTP and control groups. 24 h after exposure, the activity of LDH in the CTP (1, 3 µg/ml) groups were (1323.03 ± 28.53) and (1148.45 ± 16.42) U/dl respectively which were significantly higher than that (1091.93 ± 26.64) U/dl in the control group (P < 0.05), and the levels of IL-1β in the CTP (1 and 3 µg/ml) groups were (125.37 ± 25.00) pg/ml and (92.04 ± 19.09) pg/ml respectively which were significantly higher than that (46.20 ± 14.43) pg/ml in the control group (P < 0.05), but there was no significant difference in the activity of Caspase-1 among CTP and control groups (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCTP treatment induced early increase in caspase-1 activity followed by the increase in LDH activity and IL-1 levels, indicative of pyroptosis in human bronchial epithelial cells.

OBJECTIVENeonatal sepsis is a common disease and the sepsis-related mortality rate is still high. Until now, there has no ideal diagnostic marker to early identify neonatal sepsis. Expression of neutrophil adhesion molecule CD(11b) was showed as the earlier reaction to the infection/inflammation, and may be applied as an early diagnostic marker for sepsis. This study was to investigate this antigen for early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis related to bacterial infection.

METHODSAccording to clinical symptoms, signs and four indices (WBC, PLT, plasma CRP and ratio of I/T), fifty-one neonates with established or suspected sepsis were allocated retrospectively into two groups of sepsis [n = 23, gestational age of (38.3 +/- 2.4) weeks, postnatal age of (12.7 +/- 8.8) days, body weight: (3.1 +/- 0.8) kg] and suspected sepsis [n = 28, gestational age of (38.8 +/- 1.6) weeks, postnatal age of (11.7 +/- 7.3) days, body weight: (3.3 +/- 0.6) kg]. Fifteen healthy neonates were served as controls [gestational age: (38.5 +/- 1.4) weeks, postnatal age: (8.2 +/- 5.5) days, body weight: (3.3 +/- 0.3) kg]. CD(11b) was quantified with the whole blood flow cytometry and direct immunofluorescence technique.

RESULTSThe expressions of neutrophil CD(11b) in neonates with sepsis and suspected sepsis were (320 +/- 189) MFI and (456 +/- 213) MFI, respectively, which was lower than that of controls [(1,090 +/- 338) MFI, t = -9.01 and -7.56, respectively; P < 0.001]. The expression of CD(11b) was lower in neonates with sepsis than that with suspected sepsis (t = -2.39, P < 0.05). The expression of CD(11b) in neonates with CRP >or= 30 mg/L was (211 +/- 164) MFI, which was lower than those with CRP < 30 mg/L [(505 +/- 265) MFI, t = 2.64, P < 0.05]. The detection of CD(11b) (

CONCLUSIONThe expression of CD(11b) in neonatal sepsis presented with a down-regulation and, the decreased CD(11b) expression might be related to the severity of infections. For the neonatal sepsis the serial measurements of neutrophil CD(11b) expression with the whole blood flow cytometry seemed feasible and reliable in the early diagnosis, evaluation of infection severity and observation of therapy reactions.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of general anesthesia combined with ultrasoundguided epidural block for laparoscopic surgery in neonates.Methods Sixty American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status Ⅰ or Ⅱ neonates,aged 20-60 days,scheduled for elective radical operation for Hirschsprung's disease,were divided into 2 groups (n=30 each) using a random number table:general anesthesia group (group Ⅰ) and general anesthesia combined with ultrasound-guided epidural block group (group Ⅱ).Anesthesia was induced by inhaling 8％ sevoflurane.Anesthesia was maintained with Ⅳ sufentanil 0.2 μg/kg,cisatracurium 0.1 mg/kg and then with additional sufentanil 0.1 μg/kg and cisatracurium 0.05 mg/kg every hour and 2％-3％ sevoflurane was simultaneously inhaled in group Ⅰ.In group Ⅱ,anesthesia was maintained by inhaling 2％-3％ sevoflurane,epidural block was performed at L1.2 interspace,the catheter was caudally advanced into the epidural space under ultrasound guidance,0.8％ lidocaine was injected at a loading dose of 6 mg/kg,the local anesthetic diffusion in the epidural space was observed,and additional 0.8％ lidocaine 3 mg/kg was given every 30 min.Heart rate and mean arterial pressure were recorded at 5 min before pneumoperitoneum,during pneumoperitoneum,at extubation and after extubation.The extubation time,duration of recovery room stay and development of assisted ventilation after extubation were recorded.Pain was assessed and scored at 5 min before discharge from recovery room.The development of epidural block-related complications was recorded in group Ⅱ.Results Operation was smoothly completed with stable anesthesia in two groups.Compared with group Ⅰ,the mean arterial pressure was significantly decreased during pneumoperitoneum and after extubation,the extubation time and duration of recovery room stay were shortened,and the requirement for assisted ventilation after extubation and pain scores were decreased in group Ⅱ (P＜0.05 or 0.01).No epidural block-related complications were found in group Ⅱ.Conclusion General anesthesia combined with ultrasound-guided epidural block is safe and effective for laparoscopic surgery and is helpful for postoperative recovery in neonates.
