AIDS caused by HIV-1, is a major threat to human being. An anti-HIV formulation from Chinese herbs, so called "Qu Du Zeng Ning", have been recently developed. In this work, the pharmacodynamics of the formulation in vitro was studied. The results showed that Qu Du Zeng Ning inhibit the replication of HIV-1 efficiently in all cell-based assay, with IC50 at 105.2, 70.7, 77.4 microg mL(-1), separately. A significant synergy between the formulation and zidovudine (AZT) was observed, and it also showed a potent activity against HIV-1 drug-resistant mutant.

Two patients underwent liver transplantation of blood type incompatibility were collected from Fuzhou General Hospital of Nanjing Military Area Command of Chinese PLA. Case 1: A male who had primary hepatic carcinoma underwent classic orthotopic liver transplantation; the blood of donor was type A, and the blood of recipient was type O. Case 2: A female having history of type B hepatitis underwent classic orthotopic liver transplantation due to pregnancy combining with severe liver disease and coagulation disorder; the blood of donor was type B, and the blood of recipient was type O. Immunohistochemistry staining was used to observe pathological changes and deposition of various immunoglobulin and complement in two cases following liver transplantation of blood type incompatibility under optic microscope and to investigate diagnostic standard of humoral rejection. The results showed that linear or granular depositions of IgG, IgM, IgA, C4c, C4d, and Clq were found in endothelial cells of hepatic sinusoid, suggesting that IgG and other immunoglobulin exhibited a strongly positively diffused deposition on the endothelial cells of hepatic sinusoid, while expression of C4d and other complements was also found. All those mentioned above could be considered as evidences to prove onset of humoral rejection in transplanted liver tissue.

Objective To clone and sequence the dystonin variant X1 gene of Cricetulusbarabensis and the albino mutant Cricetulusbarabensis so as to find out the difference of encoding arear of the muscular ribosome between Cricetulusbarabensis and the albino mutant Cricetulusbarabensis. Methods According to the same type of abnormal muscle tone protein of the mice and rats, we designed 6 pairs of primers, and got their cDNA genes from skins of the Cricetulusbarabensis and the albino mutant Cricetulusbarabensis by RT-PCR amplification, then cloned and sequenced. Results Sequence alignment showed 17 variances in coding areas, and 24 in amino acid, but no in key nucleic acid and protein. Conclusion The variances in coding areas will not lead to the albino, and its mechanism requires further investigation.

Objective To investigate the subtype distribution and sequence characteristics of HIV-1 strains prevalent among sexual infectors in Beijing. Methods We collected the blood samples from 100HIV sexual infectors in Beijing during 2008 and separated plasma specimens. RNA was extracted from the plasma and the gag gene was amplified by RT-PCR and nest-PCR. The PCR products were sequenced directly and phylogenetic analyses of gag gene was performed using the MEGA4 software. Results Among 100 HIV-1 plasma samples,84 gag gene fragments were amplified and analyzed. Eight HIV subtypes including B(22 strains), B'(8 strains),C( 1 strain) ,CRF01_AE (38 strains) ,CRF02_AG (2 strains) ,CRF07_BC(9 strains) ,CRF08_BC(3 strains) and C/CRF01_AE recombinant like strain( 1 strain) were identified circulating in Beijing. Conclusion CRF01 _AE and subtype B were predominant in Beijing account for 45.2% and 26.2% and the surveillance of HIV gene variation should be paid more attention.

Objective To investigate the clinical features and risk factors of recurrent communityacquired pneumonia (CAP) in elderly patients. Methods Clinical data of elderly CAP patients admitted to the first affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-Sen university from January 2012 to December 2014 were analyzed retrospectively, including 48 cases of recurrent CAP and 299 cases of non-recurrent CAP.The clinical features were compared between two groups, and the risk factors of recurrent CAP were assessed with logistic regression analysis. Results No significant differences were observed between the two groups in age, sex, smoking, drinking, average hospital stays and total hospitalization expenses (all P > 0.05).In the recurrent pneumonia group, the chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases [54.2% (26/48) vs.35.5% (106/299),χ2 =6.146,P=0.013],diabetes [41.7% (20/48) vs.19.7% (59/299),χ2 =11.317,P=0.001],the clinical symptoms include cough [79.2% (38/48) vs.58.5% (175/299),χ2 =7.432,P =0.006],sputum [70.8% (34/48) vs.54.5% (163/299),χ2 =4.488,P =0.034],fever [64.4% (31/48) vs.40.8%(122/299),χ2 =9.488,P =0.002],poor appetite [52.1% (25/48) vs.33.1% (99/299),χ2 =6.483,P =0.011],choking cough [8.3% (4/48) vs.2.7% (8/299),χ2 =3.966,P =0.046],poor spirit [45.8% (22/48) vs.28.4% (85/299),χ2 =5.875,P =0.015],bilateral lung lesions [41.7% (20/48)vs.28.8% (68/299),χ2 =7.825,P =0.005],the complication of respiratory failure [31.3 % (15/48) vs.14.7% (44/299),χ2 =8.012,P =0.005] were higher than those in non-recurrent group.Logistic regression revealed that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OR =2.607,95% CI:1.268-5.358,P =0.009),diabetes (OR =2.948,95% CI:1.457-5.966,P =0.003) and the history of respiratory failure (0R=2.778,95%CI:1.264-6.108,P=0.011) were risk factors of recurrent CAP.Conclusions Elderly patients with recurrent CAP has a higher rate of cough, sputum and fever, and the scope of lung lesions is broader.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and the history of respiratory failure are the independent risk factors for recurrent CAP in the elderly.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the priority application of thin adrenal CT scanning in out-patients with hypertension for early diagnosis of adrenal hypertension.MethodsThe patients with hypertension were collected from January to August 2009,in whom the secondary hypertension ( including endocrine and renal hypertension) and malignant cancers were excluded. All patients accepted the adrenal CT scan firstly, and then the patients with the positive result of morphological abnormalities in the adrenal CT( including adenoma and hyperplasia)were evaluated for endocrine function of adrenal glands. Results A total 362 cases of hypertension were studied,in.cluding 162 males and 200 females. The average age was (60.9 ±9.3 ) year-old,the average duration of hypertension was ( 13.8 ±5.3 ) year. After adrenal thin layer scanner CT scan,35 patients ( 9.6% ) with adrenal abnormalities were found.Endocrine functional assessments of adrenal glands were carried out among these patients,17 cases (4.7%) with functional lesions were diagnosed, including 14 cases(3.9% )with primary hyperaldosteronism,2 cases(0.6% )with Cushing's syndrome, and 1 case ( 0.3% ) with pheochromocytoma. Conclusion This study revealed that the percentage of adrenal lesions in outpatients with hypertension was 9.6%.The percentage of adrenal hypertension was 4.7%.Thin layer CT scan seems to effectively screen the adrenal hypertension with adrenal lesions, and would be helpful to the diagnosis of endocrine hypertension.
