There are a variety of inherited metabolic diseases (IMD), the incidence is low and clinical manifestations are not char-acteristic. IMD primarily affect not only the nervous system, but also the blood system, which characterized by the abnormalities of blood cells and bone marrow. Because of some clinician's lack of this knowledge, some patients are prone to be misdiagnosed. To pro-mote early diagnosis, this article reviews five groups of IMD (lysosomal storage disease, vitaminopathies, organic aciduria, amino-acidopathies and others) and different hematological abnormal manifestations.

China Oncology 2001;11(2):157-158
Purpose:To study occult neck metastasis and the effects of salvage treatment. Methods:18 patients with stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ oral tongue squamous carcinomas had not received previous treatment. The tongue primary was excised via the transoral route and the neck was observed closely during follow-up.Results:The incidence of occult neck matastasis was 44% (7/16). The salvage rate after appearance of nodal matastasis was 27%(3/7).Conclusions:In oral tongue cancers, elective neck treatment should be considered regardless of a small primary and negative neck examination because of the high incidence of occult nodal matastasis and the poor outcome after salvage treatment.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 1995;0(04):-
Objective:To study the clinical effect of local application of Gengigel gel (0.8%hyaluronic acid gel) in the treatment of plaque-induced gingivitis.Methods:30 volunteers with plaque-induced gingivitis were included. At least two molars and/or premolars in each quadrant of oral cavity in each subject were treated by local application of Gengigel gel adjunctive to sacling (group SG), scaling alone (group S), local application of Gengigel gel (group G) or without any treatment (group C ) respectively. Plaque index(PLI), gingival index(GI) and sulcus-fluid-flow-rate(SFFR) were monitored before treatment, 4 and 7 days after treatment. Results:GI and SFFR in group SG decreased significantly faster than those in the group S (P

Objective To investigate the result of diagnosis and surgery of stageⅠnon-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods The survival of 47 stageⅠNSCLC patients performed surgery were retrospectively analyzed. Results There were 21 cases who were diagnosed by routine physical examination. The 1~,3~,5~year survival rates of the group of lobectomy were 93.8%,79.3% and 54.6% respectively.The1~,3~,5~year survival rates of wedge resection were 75.7%,42.6% and 35.7% respectively. There were statistical significances of the survival rates between the two groups(P

Objective To detect the double DNA of trisomy 21 syndrome patients by denaturing high-performance liquid chro-matography(DHPLC) in order to rapidly diagnose trisomy 21 syndrome .Methods To amplify DNA fragments of three short tan-dem repeats of D21S111 ,D21S1411 and D21S1412 using corresponding primers .Then DHPLC was introduced to analyze the DNA fragments in the temperature of 50 ℃ .Results DHPLC elution profiles of D21S111 ,D21S1411 and D21S1412 of normal control showed one peak or two peaks with the same altitude .However DHPLC elution profiles of 21 trisomy syndrome patients showed two peaks of different altitudes ,which one′s altitude was twice than another .Conclusion DHPLC is a sensitive ,convenient ,auto-matic and highly-efficient method to diagnose trisomy 21 syndrome and can be widely used in the clinic diagnosis .

BACKGROUND:Relative to blood samples, mouth swab samples are more beneficial for apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism analysis among large cohorts. However, agreement has not yet been reached about how to extract genomic DNA form mouth swab samples.
OBJECTIVE:To develop an appropriate method to extract genomic DNA form mouth swab samples, which are suitable for apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism analysis.
METHODS:Fifty mouth swab samples from patients with sporadic Alzheimer’s disease were col ected. Magnetic nanoparticles and PicoDNA trace nucleic acid extraction kit were used to extract genomic DNA form mouth swab samples. And the purity and concentration of the genomic DNA extracted by the two methods were analyzed. Then PCR amplifications and DNA electrophoresis were performed to confirm whether the genomic DNA was able to amplify desired DNA fragments. DNA sequencing was applied to analyze apolipoprotein E gene polymorphisms.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Genomic DNA extracted by the two methods was of high purity. The concentration of genomic DNA extracted by magnetic nanoparticles was higher than by PicoDNA trace nucleic acid extraction kit, and the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05). Al the genomic DNA were able to performed PCR amplifications to obtain desired PCR products, but results of DNA electrophoresis showed that DNA fragments were more clear by nanoparticles method. The results of DNA sequencing were the same by the two methods. The distribution ofε2,ε3,ε4 genotypes of apolipoprotein E gene was 6%, 71%, 23%, respectively. Magnetic nanoparticles were better than PicoDNA trace nucleic acid extraction kit for extracting genomic DNA form mouth swab samples for apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism analysis.

AIM:To investigate the relationship between the expression of adducin 3 (ADD3) and its splicing isoforms and colorectal cancer (CRC).METHODS:The expression of ADD3, ADD3-Ia and ADD3-Ib in 50 pair of CRC tissues , 20 pairs of colorectal polyp tissues , and 2 CRC cell lines SW480 and SW620 before and after oxaliplatin or fluoroura-cil intervention were detected by real-time PCR.The cell activity was determined by MTT assay , the cell migration ability was evaluated by wound-healing assay , and the cell invasion ability was measured by Transwell assay .RESULTS:The expres-sion levels of ADD3 and ADD3-Ib were decreased in the CRC tissues as compared with the normal mucous (P<0.01), and ADD3-Ia/Ib ratio was increased in the CRC tissues (P<0.01).The expression level of ADD3-Ia was higher in T3-4 group than that in T1-2 group (P<0.05).Reduced expression of ADD3, ADD3-Ia and ADD3-Ib in colorectal polyps was observed compared with the normal tissues (P<0.01).Compared with the SW480 cells, the expression levels of ADD3-Ia and ADD3-Ib were lower (P<0.05) and the ADD3-Ia/Ib ratio was higher (P <0.01) in the SW620 cells. After treated with oxalipla-tin or fluorouracil, the cell activity, migration and invasion in the SW620 and SW480 cells were weakened accompanied by the increases in the expression levels of ADD 3, ADD3-Ia and ADD3-Ib to various certain extents .CONCLUSION:In CRC there is a tendency that ADD3-Ib reduction leads to ADD3 decrease, accompanied by an increased ADD3-Ia/Ib ratio. The expression changes of ADD 3 and its splicing isoforms in the CRC may be relevant to its invasion ability .

Objective To identify the compliance and influencing factors of colorectal cancer screening among urban communities. Methods People in urban communities are categorized as the case group, comparison group A and comparison group B, according to whether they receive questionnaire survey, FOBT test, intestine mirror, and different follow-up results in this screening test Results No significant differences (P>0.05) are found among people from different groups. In the survey for screening related knowledge, understanding of such knowledge is significantly higher than the comparison group(P>0.01), and the knowledge of comparison group A is higher than that of comparison group B. Conclusion The higher their knowledge in screening, the higher their compliance for screening.
