Robotic system helps surgeons in performing surgery. Currently Da Vinci system is the most popular. Da Vinci system has been used for the stomach and bowel diseases in 27 cases(18 cases of stomach and 9 cases of colon and rectum) in the Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. Accurate preoperative staging is crucial, and Da Vinci system is advantageous in lymph node dissection, preservation of nerve plexus, and complete resection of mesorectum. Adoption of gastrointestinal tract reconstruction technique should depend on the operation and experience in surgery. Though Da Vinci system has limitations and the cost is high, it is believed to be the future trend.

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 2011;20(6):490-492
Objective To investigate the routine ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features of hepatic nodules in Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS) after portacaval anastomosis. Methods Routine ultrasonography and CEUS were performed in 18 BCS patients with hepatic nodules after portacaval anastomosis. Results Appearance after portosystemic anastomosis, multiplicity, small size, presence of peripheral rim and hypervascularization were important ultrasound imaging features of hepatic regenerative nodules in patients with BCS.Nodules showedquick wash-in and slow wash-out pattern in CEUS.Sixteen cases showed center-to-periphery enhancement pattern in arterial phase and hyper-enhancement in portal phase and late phase. Two cases showed periphery-to-center enhancement pattern in arterial phase and periphery enhancement in portal phase and late phase. Conclusions Hepatic regenerative have different features on routine ultrasound and CEUS in patients with BCS after portacaval anastomosis, which are useful for differential diagnosis.

Reactive oxygen species(ROS) in the cardiac muscle are increased in cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease and heart failure.Oxidative stress mediates myocyte hypertrophy, myocyte apoptosis and interstitial fibrosis. And these changes are particularly pronounced in elderly patients or senescent animal disease models. The major sources of ROS in myocardium are mitochondria and the reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH) oxidase.Specific ROS such as hydrogen peroxide play an important role in myocardial remodeling in heart failure.Oxidative modifications of calcium handling proteins result in reduction of their activities, leading to decreased myocardial contractility.Reduction of oxidant levels and inhibition of oxidative modifications of specific proteins through inhibiting ROS sources may provide new strategies for the treatment of myocardial remodeling.

Objective:To study the effect of OSAHS on adult nasal-cycle.Method:The nasal cycle of 20 healthy adults,18 patients of snoring and 22 patients of OSAHS were examined with acoustic rhinometry, which was performed every 30 minutes in 7 hours.Result:The ratio of nasal cycle in healthy adults was(19/20,95.0%), in snoring patients was(15/18,83.0%),in patients of OSAHS was(15/22,68.2%). The mean alteration amplitude of nasal cycle in healthy adults was significantly larger than that in patients with OSAHS (P<0.05).The distribution of the healthy adults and patients with OSAHS between the typical cycle categories was significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusion:The characteristics of nasal-cycle in of OSAHS patients were different with healthy adults, which maybe owing to change of physical function of nasal cavity.

Objective To observe the effect of vancomycin-loaded calcium sulfate for one-stage treatment of chronic osteomyelitis. Methods A retrospective case series study was made on 26 patients with chronic osteomyelitis treated from January 2014 to April 2016.There were 23 males and 3 females, with a mean age of 35.8 years (range,16-90 years). After focus debridement of osteomyelitis, the cavities were filled with vancomycin-loaded calcium sulfate and systemic antibiotics were used.Meanwhile, gentamicin was added to patients showing unclear pathogens.Three patients underwent flap transfer surgery simultaneously due to the inadequate soft tissue coverage.Wound healing, local redness and swelling, sinus recurrence, recovery of osteomyelitis and repair of bone defect were detected after operation. Results All patients were followed up for 6-30 months (mean,19.5 months).Primary healing was achieved in all patients. One patient experienced wound exudate and was effectively managed by dressing change, one patient experienced inadequate local soft tissue coverage and was effectively managed by a second flap transfer surgery, and one patient remained wound unhealing after two surgeries and was cured by infected bone resection using the Masquelet induced membrane technique.Follow-up showed local bone defect was repaired in all patients without bone infection recurrence. Conclusions For patients with chronic osteomyelitis,one-stage surgery with vancomycin-loaded calcium sulfate can control infection with simultaneous repair of bone defect. Therefore, the procedure is a simple and effective method and worthy of clinical practice.

To examine whether or not the regulatory sequence of chicken ovalbumin gene can drive transgene expression specifically in hen oviduct, the authors constructed an oviduct-specific expression vector (pOV), containing 3.0 kilobases (kb) of the 5'-flanking sequence and 3.0 kb of the 3'-flanking sequence of the chicken ovalbumin gene. Jellyfish green fluorescence protein (EGFP) reporter gene and bacterial LacZ reporter gene were respectively inserted into the downstream of the 5'-regulatory region. The recombinants were named as pOVEGFP and pOVLacZ. Two transfer systems, in vitro and in vivo, were used to verify the function of the vector. In vitro, the plasmid DNA pOVEGFP and pEGFP-N1 were transfected respectively by the polyethyleneimine procedure into the primary chicken oviduct epithelium (PCOE) and fibroblasts cells isolated from laying hens. In vivo, the recombinant vector pOVLacZ was injected into egg-laying hens via wing vein and the tissues were collected for RT-PCR analysis. The results showed that expression of pEGFP-N1 was achieved at low level in oviduct epithelial cells and at high level in fibroblasts, but that the recombinant vector was not expressed in both cells. RT-PCR analysis showed that the LacZ gene was transcribed in the oviduct, but not in the heart, liver, kidney and spleen of the injected hens. Accordingly, the ?-galactosidase activity was only detected in the oviduct magnum (116.7 mU/ml) and eggs (16.47 mU/ml). These results indicated that the cloned regulation regions of chicken ovalbumin gene could drive exogenous gene expression specifically in the oviducts of hens. In vivo gene injection via wing vein may serve as a rapid production system of recombinant proteins in chicken eggs. In addition, the cultured primary oviduct cells from laying hens were not efficient temporary expression systems for analyzing the function of regulating elements of ovalbumin gene.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose of the present study was to investigate the in vitro effects of baicalin on induction of apoptosis in human prostate cancer cell line DU145.
METHODHuman prostate cancer cell line DU145 was treated with different concentration of baicalin in vitro. The apoptosis rate was determined by FACS analysis, cell cycle distribution was detected by flow cytometry, morphological changes and protein analysis were determined by means of electron microscope techniqueand immunohistochemical techniquerespectively.
RESULT50micromol x L(-1) and 125 micromol x L(-1) of baicalin dose-dependently induced apoptosis and inhibited the proliferation of prostate cancer cell DU145 in a dose and time-dependent manner. DNA flow cytometric analysis indicated that baicalin induced a arrest in G1 phase, showing a typical apoptosis peak. Electron microscopy detected a characteristic appearance of the apoptotic cells morphology. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that induction of apoptosis by ways of inhibition of the bcl-2, loss of the Bax, and upregulation of Fas.
CONCLUSIONThe results indicate that baicalin may induce apoptosis and inhibit proliferation of prostate cancer cells, and has direct anti-tumor effects on human prostate cancer cells.
