Journal of Chinese Physician 2009;11(7):892-895
Objective To investigate the mechanisms of Chinese traditional medicine mixture protection of vascular endothelial cell from apoptosis in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods Healthy, clean SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: Sham opera-tion group (SOG), cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury group (IRG), cerebral ischemia preconditioning group (IPG) and Chinese tradi-tional medicine mixture preconditioning group (CPG). Furthermore, IRG, IPG and NPC were divided into 4 sub-groups: 1 d, 7d, 14d, 21d subgroup, according to the different time point since ischemia-reperfusion took place. And in CPG, Naotai formula extract was used. Cere-bral vascular endothelial cells of rats were removed and Hoechst 33258 staining and the DNA gradient bands were used to detect the apoptosis of these cells. Then the influence of Naotai formula extract on caspase-3, 8 and 9 activation, and Bid lysis was examined by Western-blot, and the mechanisms of Chinese traditional medicine mixture protection of vascular endothelial cell were investigated from apoptosis signal pathway. Result Naotai formula extract can inhibit the apoptosis of endothelial cells in ischemia-reperfusion injury, and it also can inhibit the activation of caspase-3, 8 and 9, thus inhibit the lysis of Bid into tBid. Conclusion Naomi formula extract inhibit the apoptosis of endo-thelial ceils in ischemia-reperfusion injury via apoptosis signal pathway.

Objective To explore and evaluate the total oxidative and antioxidant status and lipid levels in patients with COPD. Methods Measurement and comparative analysis were preformed between 51 cases of COPD patients and 45 healthy people in serum TOS,TAS,IMA concentration, blood lipid, and the concentration of ox-LDL. Results In the COPD group, serum IMA concentration was significantly higher than those in the control group(0.94 ± 0.31 vs. 0.62 ± 0.25,P<0.001). The serum TOS was higher than that in the control group(6.51 ± 4.85 vs. 4.53 ± 3.81,P<0.05). The serum ox-LDL concentration in COPD group increased significantly compared with the control group(5.91 ± 3.61 vs. 4.51 ± 2.05,P<0.05). The serum HDL concentration in the COPD group was significantly lower than that in the control group(36.49 ± 9.60 vs. 44.19 ± 10.14,P<0.001). There was no sig-nificant difference in TAS,triglyceride and low LDL between the two groups. Conclusions The serum levels of TOS,ox-LDL and IMA are significantly increased in COPD patients compared with the control group, while HDL-C concentration is significantly decreased. Increase of IMA and ox-LDL in serum of patients with COPD may be relat-ed to imbalance of TOS and TAS due to chronic inflammation and oxidative stress.

Objective To analyze the serum related proteomic fingerprints when Lost Goodwill Target (LGT) proteomic fingerprints drifting from negative to positive in the advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients. Methods The serum proteomic fingerprints of 31 advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients whose LGT fingerprints drifted from negative to positive were detected by SELDI and CM10 protein chip. More than 10 % cluster and M/Z values from 11,000+H to 12,000+H was regarded as LGT positive, otherwise as negative. Different fingerprints were screened by Biomarker Wizard 3.1 and Biomarker Wizard software and the decision tree model was established. Results There were 16 statistically different protein peaks when LGT fingerprints drifting from negative to positive, including 10 up-regulation proteomic fingerprints (M/Z:11531, 11483, 11686, 11394, 11822, 11323, 11911, 12450, 5811 and 5709) and 6 down regulation proteomic fingerprints( M/Z: 4126, 13927, 13784, 7001, 1959 and 2741). Conclusion By SELDI and CM10 protein chip detection, up-regulating fingerprints of M/Z 11531, 11483, 11686, 11394, 11822 and 11323 were regarded as the subtype of LGT when it drifting from negative to positive, while up-regulation of M/Z 11911,12450, 5811 and 5709 and down-regulating of M/Z 4126, 13927, 13784, 7001 and 1959 were regarded as the related fingerprints when LGT drifting from negative to positive. The above different fingerprints are constituted of the fingerprints library when LGT fingerprints drifting from negative to positive and it will provide a platform for studying the LGT proteins.

Objective To explore the factors influencing the functional recovery of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) at discharge. Methods A total of 105 patients with SCI admitted to the rehabilitation medicine department at Huashan Hospital between December 2004 and October 2009 were studied. Data on eleven variables were collected including the patients' medical history, physical examination results and American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) scores at admission. Functional status was registered according to the modified Barthel index (MBI) assessed at admission and before discharge. Linear regression analysis was used to assess the influence of the variables. Results After rehabilitation, average MBI and ASIA scores were significantly higher. The multiple regression analysis revealed that injury grade, motor and pinprick sensation scores at admission were related to MBI before discharge. The duration of rehabilitation, the rehabilitation treatment course and motor scores at admission were related to MBI increases during hospitalization. Conclusions Patients with different ages, injury levels and severity can improve their functional abilities through rehabilitation treatment, especially patients with better initial motor ability, longer treatment and earlier intervention.
