Objective To analyze MRI manifestations of cerebral sparganosis and the diagnostic value of MRI.Methods MRI findings in 8 patients with proven cerebral sparganosis by pathological examination were reviewed.Results The lesions were hypointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI with edema of brain around the lesions.Most of the lesions were markedly enhanced with ring-type,nodules,tortous beaded shape or tortuous linear like worm past-enhanced scans.The location and shape of the lesions in 3 cases were changed on followed-up MRI.Conclusion There are some specific pathological findings in cerebral sparganosis.MRI is of important clinical value in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of cerebral sparganosis.

Objective To study the effect and mechanism of Xinkai Kujiang method(TCM treatment with the pungent and bitter herbs to regulate the gastrofunctions)on the functional dyspepsia(FD)rats.Methods Twenty-four rats were randomized into control group,model group,and Weikangning(herbal medicine for dyspepsia)group,with 8 in each.After a 7-day adaptive feed,the FD models were made with the clipping tail stimulation.Seven days after modeling,the Weikangning group was given Weikangning Capsule 0.625g/kg by gavage,twice a day,and the other two groups were given normal saline in the same dosage.The medication was appliey in succession for 12 days,and on the thirteenth day,the serum and gastric tissues were collected for detecting the lab indications:plasma motilin(MTL),plasma nitric oxide(NO),gastric tissue MTL,nitric oxide synthase(NOS),and the expression of Cajal interstitial cells(ICC)and gastrointesinal smooth muscle cells(SMC).Results Compared with the control group,the level of plasma MTL in the model group was significantly decreased,the level of NO significantly increased,and the expression of MTL,ICC and SMC positive neurons in the stomach myenteric nerve plexus was significantly weakened,but the expression of NOS positive neurons was significantly strengthened(P

Objective: To evaluate the protective effect of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on intestinal barrier functionin rats with acute pancreatitis. Methods: Thirty-two male SD rats received injection of sodium taurocholate solution(3. 5 mg?L-1) into the pancreatic duct were randomly divided into control group (n=16) and treatment group (n=16). Animals incontrol group received total parenteral nutrition (TPN), animals in treatment group were fed on the same TPN formula ascontrol group and injections of EGF at a dose of 0. 2 mg' kg l' day--'. Rats were sacrificed on d 1 and d 5 of TPN. Concen-tration of xylose and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-dextran in superior mesenteric vein (SMV), protein and DNA contentin je junal mucosa were determined. Objective To assess the value of combined detection of enterovirus nucleic acid and antibody in early etiological diagnosis for hand-foot-and-mouth disease ( HFMD).Methods A case-control study was conducted.A total of 1 066 cases of children clinically diagnosed with HFMD from Hangzhou Children′s Hospital were involved into the research group from January to June 2014, consisting of 401 common cases and 665 severe cases; Throat swabs and serum samples from these children underwent combined detection for EV71/CA16/EV of enterovirus nucleic acid by fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR and for EV71/CA16-IgM by ELISA.All data were analyzed with SPSS 16.0.Results The total positive rate of enterovirus nucleic acid EV71/CA16/EV by fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR in the 1 066 cases of children clinically diagnosed with HFMD was 75.52%( 805/1 066 ) ( 95%CI: 72.80%-78.05%).But the total positive rate of combined detection was 91.46%( 975/1 066 ) ( 95%CI:89%.58-93.04%).The total positive rate of combined detection is higher than that of RT-PCR test(χ2 =98.338,P=0.000).The positive rate of EV71 type of combined detection was 64.63%(689/1 066)(95%CI:61.67%-67.49%),which is 15.38%higher than that of RT-PCR test 49.25%(525/1 066)(95%CI:46.21%-52.29%)(χ2 =51.453, P=0.000).In 665 severe cases of HFMD, the total positive rate of combined detection was 96.69%(643/665)(95%CI:94.95%-97.87%), which is higher than that of RT-PCR test 79.25%(527/665)(95%CI:75.92%-82.22%)(χ2 =95.607, P =0.000).In the severe cases, the positive rate of EV71 type of combined detection was 87.52%( 582/665 ) ( 95%CI:84.71%-89.89%) , which is 18.95% higher than that of RT-PCR test 68.57%(456/665) (95%CI:64.87%-72.06%) (χ2 =69.665, P=0.000).In the fatal cases, the positive rate of EV71 type of combined detection was 95.92%(94/98) (95%CI:89.28%-98.68%).Conclusions The combined detection of enterovirus nucleic acid and specific IgM antibody can significantly increase the positive rate of HFMD, especially for severe cases.The combine detection increases both the total positive rate and EV71 positive rate.Thus it has a high potential for becoming a new guidelines for laboratory diagnosis of HFMD.

Objective To study the diagnostic value of calcification in differentiating benign and malignant thyroid lesions. Methods CT images of 318 consecutive patients with pathologically proven thyroid lesions were retrospectively reviewed by two radiologists. The following characteristics of calcification on CT images were evaluated: (1) size (≤2 mm indicating microcalcification and > 2 mm or shelly and irregular shape indicating macrocalcification, and both features indicating mixed calcification), (2) number (single or multiple) and (3)location (internal or edge). χ~2 test was used for statistical analysis. Results Oft he 318 cases, 48 were diagnosed as malignant (papillary carcinoma 26, follicular carcinoma 7, medullary carcinoma 3 and microcarcinoma 12) and 270 were benign (nodular goiter 36, adenoma 170, nodular goiter with adenoma 38 and adenoma with Hashimoto's thyroiditis 26). Calcification was found in 60 cases (18.9%). Among them 21 (papillary carcinoma 12,microcarcinoma 6,follicular carcinoma 2 and medullary carcinoma 1) were malignant(43.8%) and 39(nodular goiter 6, adenoma 13,nodular goiter with adenoma 19 and adenoma with Hashimoto's thyroiditis 1) were benign (14.4%) (P < 0.01). Sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing thyroid carcinoma were 43.8% (21/48) and 85.6% (231/270), respectively. Microcalcification was found in 37 cases (malignant 8, benign 29) and macrocalcification was found in 23 cases(malignant 13, benign 10) (P < 0.01) . Sensitivity and specificity of macrecalcification for diagnosing thyroid carcinoma were 61.9% (13/21) and 74.4% (29/39), respectively. Single calcification was found in 31 cases (malignant 13, benign 18) and multiple calcification was found in 29 cases(malignant 8, benign 21) (P >0.05). Internal calcification was found in 15 cases of malignant lesions(71.4%) and 12 of benign lesions(30.8%); Edge calcification was found in 6 cases of malignant and 27 of benign, (P <0.01). Sensitivity and specificity of internal calcification for diagnosing thyroid carcinoma were 71.4% (15/21) and 69.2% (27/39), respectively. Conclusion Internal calcification or(and) macrocalcification of the thyroid lesions may strongly suspect thyroid carcinoma and fine-needle aspiration or surgery should be further performed.

Objective To discuss the clinical characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of primary gastric malignant lymphoma (PGML). Method The data from 34 PGML medical records were reviewed retrospectively between January 2001 and May 2008. Results There were 23 cases of B-cell malignant lymphoma, 7 cases of T-cell malignant lymphoma, and 4 cases of non-B and non-T small cell lymphoma. Confirmed by pathology, 14 cases of them had metastasis to lymphoid nodes and 5 cases had invaded the organs nearby. All of these 34 cases had gastroendoscopy before operation. Conclusions PGML has no specific manifestation, and the definitely diagnostic rate of gastroendoscopy is low. The surgical resection is the major therapy.Operative pattern,the size of tumor,pathological stage can predicate the prognosis for PGML.

Prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and rectal cancer are common malignancies in the male pelvis. The incidence rate of erectile dysfunction (ED) following radical prostatectomy, cystectomy or rectal cancer surgery is about 25% - 100%. The main cause of post-surgery ED is mainly attributed to injury of neurovascular bundles, which may lead to reduced oxygenation in and fibrosis of the penile tissue. Early penile rehabilitation after surgery can improve or restore the erectile function of the patients. This article focuses on penile rehabilitation after radical pelvic surgery.
