Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides ( LPS) , major component of out wall in Gram-negative bacteria. Often they are considered as "prime criminals" of triggering systemic inflaming reaction such as sepsis, bacteremia and so on. It was found in recent years that bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein, a 55kDa member of lipid-related protein family, was a kind of natural molecule of anti-infection and it has special endotoxin-neutralising activity and antibacterial activity. Comprehensive phase II/III clinical trials demonstrated the feasibility and safety of recombinant BPI. So pharmaceutical corporations are attracted to try to apply it to therapy.

Objective To discuss the influence of sex in gastric cancer via the epidemiology and clinical data analysis of gastric cancer patients. Methods The clinical data of 242 gastric cancer patients was collected from Shanxi provincial tumor hospital between 1997 to 1998. Every patient filled in gastric cancer epidemiology form by professional-staff direction, which included personal characteristics, food habits, farmalial history of cancer and other informations. Results The average age of male gastric cancer patients was 6 years older than the females'. Male ulcer type gastric cancer patients were more than the females' (120 vs 38, P < 0.01). There was no different in cell types, differentiation, tumor stage and the clinical pathological features of lymph node metastasis. Male alcoholic drinkers, tea drinkers and smokers were more than the females' . There was no different in sex in tumor familial history and dietary habits of water, well-done food, sour food, vegetables, fruits and amount of radiation of meats, eggs and milk. Conclusion This research reveals the characteristics of sex in the epidemiology of gastric cancer. It is very important and significant not only in the research of gastric cancer etiology, but also in the prevention and intervention of gastric cancer.

Objective To discuss and analyze the clinical relationships between the gene polymorphism of vitamin D receptor and adiponectin with the susceptibility of non-alcohol fatty liver disease(NAFLD).Methods One hundred and two cases of NAFLD were selected as the observation group, and other 100 healthy volunteers were selected as the control group. The gene polymorphism of vitamin D receptor and adiponectin in the two groups was detected, then the genotype distribution and allele frequencies of vitamin D receptor and adiponectin were compared between the two groups, then their relationship with the susceptibility of NAFLD was analyzed. Results The genotype distribution situation of vitamin D receptor BsmI site, adiponectin 45 and 276 sites had statistically significant difference between the observation group and control group(P<0.05).The B allele frequency of BsmI site of vitamin D receptor in the observation group was far lower than that in the control group, and the allele frequencies of 45-T and 276-G of vitamin D receptor in the former were far higher than those in the latter, and the differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The multivariate unconditional Logistic regression analysis showed that vitamin D receptor:bb genotype, adiponectin 45 locus:TT genotype and ALT,TG,complicating hypertension history and HOMA-IR all were the independent risk factors in NAFLD patients. Conclusion The genotype distribution of different sites of vitamin D receptor and adiponectin has obvious abnormality in the patients with NAFLD,and both are closely related with the NAFLD susceptibility.

Objective To compare the reproducibility and reliability of facial soft tissue landmarks using a direct and an indirect placement methods in facial three-dimensional (3D) soft tissue assessment. Methods 3D coordinates of 37 soft tissue landmarks were obtained respectively in 35 normal healthy volunteers from 3D optical capture system and Materialise's interactive medical image control system (Mimics).Landmarks were affixed on the cutaneous surface (direct method) and marked on the 3D reconstructed craniofacial model (indirect method).Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) and paired t-tests were used to compare the reliability and reproducibility of facial landmarks between two placement methods. Results For the direct placement method,86.5 % landmarks had an ICC higher than 0.75.For the indirect placement method,75.7% landmarks had an ICC higher than 0.75.The inter-observer variability using the direct placement method was (1.259±0.566) mm,which was significantly smaller (P<0.05) than (1.420±0.638) mm obtained by the indirect placement method. Conclusions Compared with indirect method, direct method has higher reliability and reproducibility in evaluating facial soft tissue.

To observe the therapeutic effects of transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation on early-stage adhesive shoulder periarthritis. Methods:by using the research approach of evidence-based medicine such as multi-center,large sample and randomization, the 163 cases of early-stage adhesive shoulder periarthritis were treated with transcutaneous electric point stimulation and electric acupuncture respectively to observe the therapeutic effect of transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation and compare its effect with electric acupuncture. Results and Conclusion:The total effective rate of transcutaneous electric point stimulation on early-stage adhesive shoulder periarthritis reached 96.5%,showing no significant difference with the electric acupuncture group;the transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation could not only relieve pain, but also improve the shoulder joint movement. As a result, the transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulation is an easy and more effective therapy for shoulder periarthritis.

Objective:To observe the efficacy and safety of dexzopiclone plus auricular acupressure in intervening primary insomnia. Methods:A total of 72 participants who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in a randomized controlled trial, with 36 cases allocated to a treatment group and 36 cases allocated to a control group. Both groups were given dexzopiclone as the routine treatment.Patients in the treatment group were given auricular acupressure with Wang Bu Liu Xing (Semen Vaccariae) seeds at the auricular acupoints related to sleep and emotion based on meridian theory, whereas for patients in the control group, the medical plasters with Wang Bu Liu Xing (Semen Vaccariae) seeds were only gently stuck to acupoints unrelated to sleep without stimulation.Patients in both groups were required to visit the hospital once a week for replacing the seeds and plasters. The course of intervention lasted for 8 weeks and the patients were followed up for another 4 weeks.Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Karolinska sleep diary (KSD) were used to evaluate the outcomes.Meanwhile, adverse effects were monitored and recorded. Results:In the enrolled 72 cases,4 patients (one in the treatment group and three in the control group) reported thirst and a bitter taste, and one case in the control group reported nausea and vomiting. At last,3 cases in the control group dropped out for adverse reactions, and 69 cases completed the clinical trial. After 8 weeks of treatment, the global scores of PSQI in both treatment and control groups decreased significantly compared with the baseline (both P<0.001).Furthermore,the global score of PSQI in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.01).The global scores of PSQI in both groups at the follow-up were significantly different from the baseline (both P<0.001),but insignificantly different compared with the post-treatment results (both P>0.05).According to KSD,both treatment protocols could prolong the total sleep time, shorten sleep-onset latency, improve sleep efficacy and sleep quality significantly, and the changes in the treatment group were more significant. The total effective rate was 88.9% in the treatment group, higher than 81.8% in the control group, though the difference was statistically insignificant (P>0.05).Conclusion:Dexzopiclone plus auricular acupressure is effective and safe for patients with primary insomnia both in short and long terms, and it is more effective than monotherapy of dexzopiclone.
