OBJECTIVETo investigate the potential of Gomphidius viscidus, a kind of ectomycorrhizal fungi, for phytoremediation of anthracene in soil.
METHODSAbsorptioe changes of micro-habitat were studied in detail.
CONCLUSIONEctomycorrhizal plants have a strong potential for remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarn characteristics of both active and inactivated mycelia.
RESULTSA high calculated adsorption capacity of 1,886.79 mg/g and 1,515.15 mg/g at 25 °C, pH 6.0 for active and inactivated mycelia respectively, was obtained based on Langmuir model. The ANT biosorption was more ideally characterized by the Langmuir model than by the Freundlich model. The biosorption of anthracene to biomass was extremely fast and could be modeled with pseudo-second order adsorption kinetics. Moreover, ectomycorrhizal mycelia demonstrated a strong ability to adjust the physiological process to get adapted to the change of micro-habitat.

Objective To establish an simple and convenient animal model of cardiac arrest for studying cerebral resuscitation.Method Clean male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham group and experimental group.Cardiac arrest was induced by asphyxiation and ice-cold 0.5 mol KCl with blood flow cut off for 5 minutes.Animals were resuscitated with external cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),mechanical ventilation, and epinephrine injection.Blood pressure, heart rate, successful ratio of resuscitation after 72 hours, time of cardiac arrest (T_(CA)) and return of spontaneous circulation (T_(ROSC)) were recorded.Neural deficit scores (NDS) and levels of maleic dialdehyde (MDA) in plasma were evaluated at 3,6,12,24,48,72 hours after ROSC.The damage score of cortex was measured by transmission electron microscope examination at 3 hours and 72 hours after ROSC.Results All the rats in experimental group had cardiac arrest rapidly.T_(CA) and T_(ROSC) were (137.3?10.2) seconds and (64.4?9.3) seconds, respectively, while the successful rate of resuscitation was 82.5%.The lowest NDS was at 3 hours after ROSC,while the NDS increased gradually. After CPR,the level of MDA in plasma increased significantly, slightly declined at 72 hours after ROSC,but still significantly higher than before the model.Electron microscope examination of cortex showed neuron slightly, organelle and astrocyte, but became better after 72 hours post ROSC.Conclusions The model of cardiac arrest was easy to establish, and the data provided was accurate, which is useful to study the mechanism of cerebral resuscitation.

Objective To explore the method of endovascular therapy for complicated aortic dissections.(Methods) The clinical data of 25 patients with complicated aortic dissections were analysed retrospectively. Results The patients′ ages ranged from 31-72 years with a mean of 50.2 years.Among the 25 cases,6 cases had severe ischemia of mesenteric artery,5 cases had renal artery ischemia,4 cases had severe(ischemia) of both legs,3 cases had renal arteries ischemia combined with superior mesenteric artery ischemia,2 had complicated aortic dissection combined with AAA,and in 5 cases the true aortic lumen was totally(compressed) by the false aneurysmal lumen. All patients underwent endovascular therapy, and the instant(technique) was successfully performed in all patients.Endoleak occurred in 3 cases after the stent-graft(deployment),it stopped spontaneously in 2 of them 7 days later, and 1 case with endoleak waiting for(treatment). In the other 22 patients, angiography after the operation showed that all the diseased area were sealed completely, and the viscera arterial blood supply was restored mainly via the true lumen. All the(patients) were cured and discharged. Conclusions In the management of complicated aortic dissections,(endoluminal) technique is simple, less traumatic, safe and has less complications as compared to the traditional operation.Improvement of the endoluminal technique is essential for successful treatment of these complicated cases.

OBJECTIVETo investigate whether AJCC staging system(2010 edition) for gastric cancer has influence on the adoption of adjuvant chemotherapy.
METHODSThis was a cohort study and the data were collected from patients who underwent radical surgery and received adjuvant chemotherapy from January 2004 to December 2009. There were 48 patients with stage II( disease and 95 patients with stage III( disease according to TNM staging(2010 edition). Doublets were defined as 5-fluorouracil or capecitabine plus cisplatin or oxaliplatin, while triplets had epirubicin added. Ninety-six patients received doublet chemotherapy and 47 received triplet. All the patients were followed-up in the outpatient clinic until death or the censor time of May 2011.
RESULTSThe median follow-up time was 48 months in this cohort of 143 patients. The two groups had similar disease-free survival(DFS)(median, 23 months vs. 30 months, P>0.05). The median overall survival was 48 months in both groups. Subgroup analysis by TNM staging(2010 edition) showed that the median DFS of patients with stage III( gastric cancer was 15 months in the doublet group, significantly shorter than that of patients in the triplet group (18 months, P<0.05). However, the difference in overall survival was not statistically significant between the two groups. Patients with stage II( disease had comparable DFS and OS between the two groups(all P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSTriplets regimens (epirubicin, platins and fluorouracil) show benefit on disease-free survival for the stage III( gastric cancer patients staged by TNM staging 2010 edition.

Objective To investigate the effects of advanced glycation end-products(AGEPs)on the function of normal keratinocytes in vitro so as to explore the role of AGEPs in impaired wound healing. Methods Normal rat keratinocytes were incubated with different concentrations of AGEPs.After 48 hours of culturing, the cell proliferation rates were measured by MTT colorimetric determination. The cell cycle distributions and apoptosis were analyzed with flow cytometry, and the migration was investigated by 24-well fluorimetric cell migration assay kit by exposing to 100?g/ml AGEPs.Nuclear extracts from these cells were examined for binding of nucleotides containing NF-?B consensus by immunocytochemistry and EMSA in vitro. Results The proliferations of normal keratinocytes were significantly arrested and many cells were induced to early apoptosis compared with control ones(P<0.05)by exposing to AGEPs for 48 hours. Meanwhile AGEPs also irritated keratinocytes migration compared with control ones(P<0.05).Inhibiting the activation of NF-?B could partly recover the proliferation of keratinocytes, reverse apoptosis and attenu- ate migration. Conclusion AGEPs are correlated with the migration, proliferation and apoptosis of kera- tinocytes by NF-?B.
