OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of Tongfu Decoction (TFD) on the gastric emptying of normal rats, thus exploring whether it could promote gastric emptying rapidly.
METHODSThirty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, i.e., the normal control group, the domperidone group, and the TFD group, 10 in each group. They were respectively administered with normal saline, the domperidone suspension, and TFD by gastrogavage. Thirty min later the gastric emptying of mice was detected by single photon emission computed tomography technology (SPECT) labeled with 99m Tc-DTPA, and the gastric half-emptying time and the gastric emptying rate were calculated.
RESULTSThe gastric half-emptying time was (19.0 +/-1.7) min in the normal control group, (12.9 +/- 3.4) min in the domperidone group, and (12.7 +/- 4.1) min in the TFD group. Compared with the normal control group, the gastric half-emptying time was significantly shortened in the domperidone group and the TFD group (P <0.05). The gastric emptying rate at 15 min was 41.1% +/- 5. 8% in the normal control group, 52.9% +/- 10.9% in the domperidone group, and 56.0% +/- 10.3% in the TFD group, while at 30 min it was 65.6% +/- 2.8%, 72.9% +/- 2.6%, and 72.4% +/- 4.9%, respectively. Compared with the normal control group, the gastric emptying rate at 15 min and 30 min both significantly increased in the domperidone group and the TFD group (P <0.05). There was no statistical difference in the gastric half-emptying time or the gastric emptying rate between the two groups (P >0.05).
CONCLUSIONTFD showed similar effects as domperidone in rapidly promoting gastric emptying, and could shorten the gastric half-emptying time in normal rats.

A lot of experimental findings have confirmed that: Animal cells acquire a spherical shape just before the division; Under biochemical stimulus of mitotic apparatus aster the cells form a contractile ring in equator plane, and the mother cell divides into two daughter cells; meanwhile the total volume keeps constant. In Zinemanas and Nir's model the reorientation of microfilament and the visco-elasticity of cortex have been took into consideration. In our present work, the effective coefficient m due to biochemical stimulus was incorporated into the model, and the local distribution C was modified to diffuse with the plasma membrane motion. The numerical results showed that the formation of a contractile ring and parameters such as the surface tension in the furrow and internal pressure can be predicted successfully. Compared with Zinemanas and Nir's model, the results of our model are more correspondent with the experimental results. It can be concluded that the effective coefficient m has limited effects on the process control of cytokinesis.

OBJECTIVETo study the influence of clinical and pathological-morphological parameters on the prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
METHODSUnivariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard model were used to study the influence of clinical and pathological-morphological factors on the prognosis in 226 colorectal carcinoma cases.
RESULTSUsing univariate analysis, data showed that the factors significantly related to disease prognosis would include: the depth of direct spread, vessel invasion, perineural invasion, tumor budding, peritumoral-lymphocytic infiltration, Crohn-like reaction, number of positive lymph nodes, distant metastasis, TNM stage and urine glucose. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard model showed that six factors were identified to be associated with higher relative-risk (RR), including: older age, advanced TNM stage, more severe budding, perineural invasion, less peritumoral-lymphocytic infiltration and urine glucose.
CONCLUSIONAge, TNM stage, tumor budding, perineural invasive, peritumoral-lymphocytic infiltration and urine glucose were independent predictors to the prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) for patients of Uygur and Han nationality and explore the national diversity among the patients with MCI.
METHODSTwenty-five cases were divided into Han nationality group (15 cases) and Uygur nationality group (10 cases) according to patient's nationality. In either group, EA was applied to Baihui (GV 20), Fengchi (GB 20), Xuanzhong (GB 39), Fuliu (KI 7), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3), once per day, 15 treatments made one session and there were 5 days at the interval among the sessions. Totally, 3 sessions of treatment were required. The proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) was used to observe the changes in the ratio of N-acetylaspartate and creatine (NAA/Cr) on the left hippocampus for the patients in two groups before and after treatment as well as the changes in the results of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) separately.
RESULTSNAA/Cr in Uygur nationality group was higher than that in Han nationality group before treatment (1.659 +/- 0.418 vs 1.137 +/- 0.190, P < 0.05). After treatment, MMSE and MoCA scores all increased apparently as compared with those before treatment in two groups (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), and NAA/Cr on the left hippocampus in either group was up-regulated as compared with that before treatment (both P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONEA can improve the overall cognitive function for the patients with MCI. There is the national diversity in the partial brain metabolite level between Uygur patients and Han patients with MCI.

The bodies found in water are one of the most common types in forensic practice. The dis-covery site of the body is often not the drowning site. However, the determination of drowning site is vital for the identification of victim. Inorganic particles and planktons, such as granular impurities, diatoms and bacteria, are valuable markers for the diagnosis of drowning. By comparing the granular impurities and planktons in tissues and suspicious drowning mediums, the drowning site can be concluded based on their similarity of types and distribution, which has practical applied value. In this paper, the research progress on determination of drowning site is summarized to provide reference for the peers.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the association between methylentetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphisms and risk of lung cancer.
METHODSTotally 505 cases with lung cancer and 500 frequency-matched controls were genotyped for the MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methods. The odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using unconditional logistic regression model. Haplotype frequency was estimated using EH software.
RESULTSThe frequency of the MTHFR C677T allele in cases was significantly higher than that in controls (53.5% vs 44.9%, P < 0.001). Compared with the 677CC genotype, the 677CT and 677TT genotypes were associated with increased risk of lung cancer, with the OR being 1.43 (95% CI, 1.04-1.95) and 2.40 (95% CI, 1.61-3.59), respectively. In addition, a significant difference in the distribution of haplotype frequencies between cases and controls was observed.
CONCLUSIONFunctional polymorphism in MTHFR is associated with increased risk of lung cancer in Chinese population.
