1.Expression and signiifcance of thrombonspondin-1 in oxygen-induced retinopathy in mice

Objective:To examine the expression and function of thrombonspondin-1 (TSP-1) in oxygen-induced retinopathy in new-born mice, and to investigate its role in retinal neovascularization. Methods:A total of 40 C57BL/6J newborn mice were divided equally into a model group (n=20)andanormalcontrolgroup(n=20).Miceinthemodelgroupwereexposedto75%oxygentoestablish the oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR) model. On the 7th, 9th, and 11th day after the birth of mice, 5 mice were randomly selected each time from the 2 groups to examine the expression of TSP-1 mRNA with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). After that, 5 mice were selected on the 11th day to observe the retinal neovascularization by fluorescein angiography retinal flatmount. Results:On the 11th day, fluorescein angiography retinal flatmount showed that the retinal blood vessels presented mean network distribution in the normal control group, while in the model group, a lot of dilatated areas in the retinal main vessels surrounded the optic disc. Meanwhile lots of new blood vessels were found surrounding the optic disc with irregular distribution but well distributed peripherial retinal small vessels, which was typical of early stage OIR. There was no signiifcant difference in the retinal TSP-1 mRNA level between the model group and the normal control group in the postnatal 7-day mice (P>0.05). Compared with the normal control group, the expression of TSP-1 mRNA in the model group was signiifcantly lower in postnatal 9-day and 11-day mice (P<0.05, P<0.01) , and the expression of TSP-1 mRNA in postnatal 9-day mice was lower than that in the postnatal 11-day mice(P<0.05).
Conclusion:In the early stage of OIR model (retinal vascular growth and development stage), the expression of TSP-1 mRNA in the retinal tissue is gradually decreased, implying that TSP-1 (as a negative regulatory factor) may be involved in the formation of retinal neovascularization in the early stage.

4.Genetic effects in mammalian somatic cells exposed to radiofrequency radiation: a meta-analysis

Objective To investigate the genetic effects of radio-frequency radiation (RF-radiation) on mammalian somatic cells. Methods A meta-analysis of reported data (1991-2009) was conducted to obtain a quantitative estimate of genotoxicity ( including single-and double-strand breaks in the DNA, incidence of chromosome aberration, micronuclei, and sister chromatid exchanges) in RF-radiationexposed cells compared with sham-exposed cells or unexposed control cells. Results After RF-radiation exposure, the weighted mean difference and its 95% confidence interval was 1.03(0. 74, 1.31 )for comet tail length in radiation group, and was 0. 10 (0. 04, 0. 16) for comet tail moment compared with control group. Relative risk and its 95% confidence interval for chromosome aberration was 1.21 (0. 68, 2. 13 )for lower than 2000 MHz RF-radiation exposure group, and 1.76( 1.05, 2.97 ) for more than 2000 MHz RF-radiation exposure group. The combined relative risk and its 95% confidence interval for micronuclei formation was 1.39(1.18-1.64). The combined WMD and its 95% confidence interval for sister chromatid exchanges in radiation group was 0. 40 ( - 0. 33,1.14 ) compared with control group. Conclusions On certain RF radiation exposure conditions, it can increase in the DNA damages and micronuclei formation.There might be an increase of chromosomal aberration occurrence for RF-radiation exposure above 2000 MHz, while no significant differences for those lower than 2000 MHz RF-radiation exposure. For the incidence of sister chromatid exchanges in mammalian somatic cells, RF-radiation exposure had no significant influence.
5.Ecology Suitability Valuation of Traditional Pediatric Quisqualis indica

Objective: Analyze the ecological adaptable regions for the resource reservation and the expanding cultiva-tion of Quisqualis indica L. Methods: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Geographic Information System (TCMGIS) was used to analyze the ecological adaptable region. Results: The 17 provinces (city, municipalities) were the ecolog-ical adaptable region for Q. indica L. The 100% ecology similarity regions are mainly in 16 provinces (city, munici-palities), including Guangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Fujian etc., which area accounts for 1 012 895.98 km2. Among these, the area in Guangxi province is the largest (195 313.64 km2), the second is Guangdong (150 276.36 km2), the following order is Hunan(128 925.29 km2), Fujian (101 471.16 km2) and Y unnan (100 660.83 km2). The 95%~100%ecology similarity regions is located in 16 provinces (city, municipalities), including Y unnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei province etc., which area accounts for 362 366.25 km2. The largest area is in Y unnan province (92 399.04 km2), followed by Sichuan(76 122.32 km2), Guizhou (43 902.38 km2), Hubei (31 760.32 km2) and Jiangxi (29 770.09 km2). Conclusion: The results are consistent with the survey results and the previous reports. To promote the develop-ment of Q. indica L. cultivation, the planting scientifically and quality evalution should be further conducted on the basis of the results by system analysis.
6.Early application of non-invasive ventilation in treating elderly patients with acute left ventricular failure and respiratory failure

Objective To study effects of early non-invasive ventilation (NIV) application in treating elderly patients with acute left ventricular failure induced respiratory failure. Method Totally 32 elderly patients with acute left ventrieular failure induced respiratory failure, admitted from August 1997 to February 2007, received NIV treatment, and were retrospectively studied. There were 22 male and 10 female, aged (81.5?8.6) yearsdd. The changes of rahs, respiration rate, heart rate, arterial blood gas, cardiac function before and after NIV application were compared. According to the application time of NIV, 32 patients were divided into two groups: group A (early NIV application group, n=17) and group B (non-early NIV application group, n= 15). The time to improve the symptoms, the application time of NIV, cure rates, tracheal intubation rates and mortality were compared between the two groups. Results Thirty of the 32 patients survived, cardiac function was improved from New York classⅣtoⅠ~Ⅱ, respiratory rate, heart rate and blood pressure significantly decreased, PaO_2 and SaO_2 significantly increased and PaCO_2 significantly decreased. Objective To observe the clinical effect and security of carvedilol on children with endocardial fibroelastosis(EFE).Methods Eighteen children with EFE treatment with carvedilol.The improvement of clinical symptom,heart rate,heart function,side effect and maximal tolerance dose after treatment with carvedilol were observed.Results The clinical symptom was obviously improved;eiection fraction(EF),fractional shortening(FS),mean velocity of circumferential fiber(Mvcf)were significantly increased,left ventricular end-systolic dimension(LVDS),left ventricular mass(LVmass),interventricular septal thickness(IVSs)were notably decreased after treatment with carvedilol.Conclusions The data indicates that carvedilol can significantly reduce left ventricular diastolic dimension(LVDD),IVSs,and LVmass,inhibit the remodeling of ventricle,significantly elevate the heart function of EFE.So carvedilol is benefit and security on children with EFE.

· AIM: To study the in situ relative intraocular position of the iris-claw phakic intraocular lens (PIOL)for high myopia using an anterior chamber optical coherence tomography (AC OCT)prototype.· METHODS: Six PIOLs (11.50 to 22.00D lens powers) were implanted in phakic myopic eyes. Using AC OCT, tomography was taken in the anterior chamber to measure the preoperative anterior chamber depth, postoperative distance between the PIOL and the corneal endothelium (endothelial-optic distance), and the postoperative distance between the PIOL and the crystalline lens.· RESULTS: Preoperative anterior chamber depth ranged from 3.27 to 3.91 mm and the postoperative endothelial-optic distance measured 2,07 to 2,24 mm. The distance between the crystalline lens and the posterior surface of the IOL ranged from 0.82 to 1.32 mm. Several tomography revealed the position of the PIOL on the iris, The pigment layer of the iris did not seem to be disturbed by the presence of the PIOL.· CONCLUSION, The original anterior chamber depths were reduced by 36,1% to 44.6% after implantation. This study of 6 eyes revealed that tomography taken by AC OCT are useful in verifying the intraocular position of the PIOL within the anterior chamber. Adequate space was maintained between the iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens and the corneal endothelium, angle, and crystalline lens.
10.Preliminary evaluation of data mining on non-masslike enhancement of breast lesions on MRI

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic values of the breast imaging reporting and data system-MRI (BI-RADS-MRI)description about non-masslike enhancement by data mining. Methods Fifty-five patients with non-masslike enhancement lesions showed on breast contrast-enhanced MRI were evaluated using two data mining algorithms (Logistic regression and decision tree) and 10-fold cross-validation methods. Results There were 28 malignant and 27 benign lesions. The most frequent findings of the malignant lesions were clustered ring enhancement and clumped enhancement [ 12 and 4 lesions, respectively; 84. 2% (16/19) in decision trees, partial regression coefficients in Logistic model were 2. 128 and 1.723, respectively], whereas homogenous, stippled, reticular internal and linear ductal enhancement were the most frequent findings in benign lesions [ 4、9、1 and 7 lesions, respectively; 72. 4% (21/29) in decision tree, partial regression coefficients in Logistic model were 0.357 (homogenous), 1. 861 (stippled) and 18. 870( reticular), respectively]. 10-fold cross-validation indicated that decision tree (C5.0) achieved an accuracy of 69.3% with a sensitivity of 66.7% and a specificity of 71.7% in comparison to the Logistic regression model with an accuracy of 57. 0%, a sensitivity of 43.3% and a specificity of 71.7%. Conclusions The diagnosis efficacy of non-masslike enhancement interpretation according to BI-RADS-MRI is not high. It is very important to find more potential features of non-masslike enhancement to improve the diagnosis accuracy.
