Adrenergic receptors are members of the G-protein coupled receptor superfamily. Recent studies revealed that these adrenergic receptors are playing an important role in the growth and metastasis of prostate cancer cells. The expression of adrenergic receptors rises significantly in prostate cancer cells and tissues. Agonists of these receptors promote the growth and mobility of prostate cancer cells, while antagonists may suppress their proliferation, trigger their apoptosis, and inhibit their metastasis. Clinically, receptor antagonists can significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer and improve its prognosis after androgen depravation therapy. This article presents an overview on the roles of adrenergic receptors in prostate cancer.

Objective Previous study showed that interval debulking surgery (IDS) may improve the survival of patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).The precise significance of IDS needs to be evaluated. Methods Totally 136 consecutive patients with stage Ⅲ c or Ⅳ EOC (including primary peritoneal carcinoma and primary fallopian tube carcinoma ) who completed primary debulking surgery (PDS) and platinum-based chemotherapy were enrolled from January 2000 to December 2009 in a retrospective cohort study. The study group was divided into three groups:65 cases underwent optimal PDS (Group A ),41 cases received chemotherapy alone after suboptimal PDS (Group B ),and 30 patients underwent IDS after suboptimal PDS (Group C).All patients received six to eight courses of platinum-based combination chemotherapy (paclitaxel plus carboplatin/cisplatin,cyclophosphamide plus epirubicin and cisplatin).Patients' clinical characteristics, perioperative situation and prognosis were compared. Results Sixty-five cases (47.8%,65/136) from 136 patients achieved optimal PDS.For Group C,77% (23/30)patients obtained optimal debulking surgery after IDS.Intraoperative injury rates were similar between Group B and Group C ( P > 0.05 ).Mild perioperative complications rate was also similar ( P >0.05 ).Median progression-free survival (PFS) of Group A was 26 months.Median overall survival (OS) of Group B and Group C were 3l months and 40 months, respectively (P =0.254).Median PFS of Group B and Group C were 13 months and 24 months, respectively (P =0.289).Although when it came to 20 months after PDS,patients who underwent IDS had a significantly lower progressive disease (PD) rate (Group B 33% versus Group C 61%,P =0.046 ),it still showed that there was no significant difference in either OS or PFS of these two groups. Those patients in Group C who obtained no visible residual got similar PFS (27 months) comparing to Group A (26 months,P =0.730),but OS was still shorter (P =0.010).Conclusions For advanced EOC patients,IDS has little effect on improving survival. While it is safe and acceptable, also may prolong PFS in those patients who got no visible residual after IDS.The results suggest that IDS might be used as an alternative treatment for advanced EOC patients who cannot obtain optimal PDS in certain local hospitals.

Objective:To differentiate hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection from hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among different indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) subtypes. The correlation between indolent B-NHL and hepatitis viral infection was also investi-gated. Methods:A total of 733 indolent B-NHL patients from January 1994 to January 2014 with integrated clinical information were retrospectively investigated. We compared the hepatitis viral infection between the general population and indolent B-NHL patients. We analyzed the infection rate of hepatitis virus in the different indolent B-NHL subtypes and examined their correlations. Results:The HBs-Ag positive rate of the indolent B-NHL was 7.9%, which was not significantly different with that of the general population (7.9%vs. 7.2%, P=0.548). Among the different indolent B-NHL subtypes, the 48 splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) patients exhibited the highest HBs-Ag positive rate, which was significantly higher than those of the general population (18.8%vs. 7.2%, P=0.002), other indo-lent B-NHL subtypes (18.8%vs. 7.2%, P=0.004), and other marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZL) patients (18.8%vs. 7.1%, P=0.005). The HBs-Ag positive rates between other B-NHL subtypes and the general population were not significantly different. The coexpression of HBs-Ag, HBe-Ag, and anti-HBc-Ab exhibited no significant difference among the various B-NHL subtypes. However, the co-expres-sion of HBs-Ag, HBe-Ab, and anti-HBc-Ab was significantly higher in the SMZL group than the other B-NHL subtypes (16.7%vs. 4.7%, P<0.001).The positive rate of the anti-hepatitis C virus antibody (HCV-Ab) was 1.9%in 733 indolent B-NHL patients, which was significant-ly higher than in the general population (1.9%vs. 0.4%, P<0.001). The HCV-Ab positive rates in the chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lym-phoplasmacytic lymphoma/Waldenstr?m macroglobulinemia, SMZL, hairy cell leukemia, nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma group were 2.2%, 2.5%, 4.2%, 3%, and 3.7%, respectively. These values were significantly higher than those of the general population. Preva-lence rates of HCV in B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders, unclassified, extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associat-ed tissue lymphoma, B-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, and follicular lymphoma groups were not significantly different compared with the general population. Conclusion:Prevalence rate of HBV was higher in the SMZL group than other indolent B-NHL groups, which suggests that HBV infection may play an etiologic role in SMZL.

Objective To investigate the immune modulation effect of lymphocytes co-cultured with human cord blood derived-multipotent stem cells(CB-SCs) and to explore their therapeutic potential for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) model mice. Methods CB-SCs were isolated from human cord blood.Lymphocytes were isolated from spleens of AD model mice. The lymphocytes were co-cultured with CB-SCs or cultured alone for 72 h.AD model mice were divided into experimental group and control group randomly, and then the experimental group mice were administrated with lymphocytes co-cultured with CB-SCs and control group were administrated with lymphocytes cultured alone by caudal vein injection. Then, the behavior experiment was carried out.The CD4+CD25+Foxp3+Tregswere detected by flow cytometry. The protein expression of TNF-αand IL-10 in peripheral blood was detected by ELISA,The mRNA expression of TNF-α and IL-10 in brain tissue was detected by PCR.The amyloid-β(Aβ)plaques were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results 1)There was spatial learning and memory improvement on experimental group.2)The Aβ plaques of experimental group decreased.3)The percentage of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+Tregs in peripheral blood and IL-10 level in plasma were higher in experimental group(P<0.05).The pro-inflammatory cytokines,TNF-α level in plasma of experimental group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.001).4)The mRNA expression of IL-10 in brain was higher in experimental group as compared to those in the control group(P<0.05),and the mRNA expression of TNF-α of experimental group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions The lymphocytes co-cultured with CB-SCs have immunotherapeutic effect in AD model mice, which is mainly displayed with increased proportion of Tregs and enhanced anti-inflammatory function of Tregs.
8.The study on local field potentials in rat's primary motor cortex during pressing paddle behavior.
Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2011;27(1):37-40
OBJECTIVEThe local field potential (LFP) is a summation of dendritic potentials. The main objective of the present work is to view the features of LFP in M1 during the experimental rat pushed a paddle with the right forelimb.
METHODSFour rats were trained to press a paddle with the right forelimb for water. Then Two bundle micro-electrode with four channels were implanted into the rat's left and right primary motor cortex (M1)(AP + 3.0 mm, ML +/- 1.6 mm, H-1.6 mm) with stereotaxic apparatus. After three days recovery, 8-channel Deep-EEG and the pulse signal of paddle pressed were recorded during the rats were in operant chamber, and at the same time, the behavior were also recorded with video recorder.
RESULTSThe LFP in left M1 were defined as the substance between two channel deep-EEG. It is found that low frequency, high amplitude signal appear aligned with the paddle pressed pulse signals. With threshold detect method, about 80% press-paddle behavior could be detected.
CONCLUSIONThe result indicates that LFPs in this position in M1 are relative to forelimb's movement, and a powerful brain-computer interface system maybe developed with the LFPs.
