[Objective] To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Oleum Curcumae Aromaticae (OCA) on leukemia cell strain HL-60 and K562 by observing its sensitivity in inhibiting HL-60 and K562. [Methods] Subculture of HL-60 and K562 cells was performed on the 96-hole culture plate and OCA 100?L at the final concentration of 400, 200, 100 and 50mg/L respectively was added. The blank control was added with RPMI-1640 culture fluid. After 24, 48 and 72 hours of treatment, MTF 10?L (5mg/mL) was added and the inhibitory rate on the cells was assayed by detecting the absorption value at 570nm wavelength. Endotoxins are lipopolysaccharides ( LPS) , major component of out wall in Gram-negative bacteria. Often they are considered as "prime criminals" of triggering systemic inflaming reaction such as sepsis, bacteremia and so on. It was found in recent years that bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein, a 55kDa member of lipid-related protein family, was a kind of natural molecule of anti-infection and it has special endotoxin-neutralising activity and antibacterial activity. Comprehensive phase II/III clinical trials demonstrated the feasibility and safety of recombinant BPI. So pharmaceutical corporations are attracted to try to apply it to therapy.

Objective To evaluate the value of echocardiography in diagnosing infective endocarditis (IE) in children. Methods The shape, size, echogenicity, distribution of vegetations and valvular function of the heart were observed by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in 30 patients with suspected IE. We correlated TTE ifndings with the results of hemoculture and serologic test. Results Vegetations were observed in all patients by echocardiography:seven patients with tricuspid valve vegetations, two with mitral valve vegetations, three with pulmonary valve vegetations, three with main pulmonary artery vegetations, three with aortic valve vegetations, two with aortic valve abscess, and two with vegetations in right atrium. After anti-infection therapy, the size of vegetations in iffteen patients became smaller and the less echogenic than before. Vegetations disappeared in two patients. Vegetation was recurrent repeatedly in one case. Ten patients recovered after operation. Two severe cases died. Five patients underwent TTE again one week after the previous negative TTE. Of them, echocardiography demonstrated vegetations in three cases. However, no vegetations were found in rest two cases because antibiotics had been used at early stage. In addition, echocardiography demonstrated one patient with mitral valve vegetation. But the lesion was ifnally conifrmed to be operating suture. The sensitivity and specificity of TTE in detecting vegetations were 88.0% and 80.0%, respectively. Blood cultures were positive in twenty-seven cases and were negative in three cases. Conclusions The early diagnosis of IE is important to improve patient′s prognosis. It takes a long time in organism cultivation before achieving the clinical diagnosis. TTE can help obtain an early diagnosis stage of IE, and provide the assessment of size and location of vegetation. It plays an important role in treatment and prognosis prediction.

To evaluate the properties of solidifying volatile oil with graphene oxide, clove oil and zedoary turmeric oil were solidified by graphene oxide. The amount of graphene oxide was optimized with the eugenol yield and curcumol yield as criteria. Curing powder was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of graphene oxide on dissolution in vitro and thermal stability of active components were studied. The optimum solidification ratio of graphene oxide to volatile oil was 1:1. Dissolution rate of active components had rare influence while their thermal stability improved after volatile oil was solidified. Solidifying herbal volatile oil with graphene oxide deserves further study.

Objective:To evaluate the current situation and trend of anti-infection drug usage in 11 hospitals of Shanghai during 2003-2005.Methods:Using the cost ranking approach,we analyzed the anti-infection drug usage in 11 major hospitals of Shanghai during 2003-2005.The drug species,consumption,cost,manufacturer,etc,were analyzed by Excel 2000 software. Results:It was found that the cost of anti-infection drugs in the 11 hospitals occupied 22.65% of the total drug expenditure during 2003-2005 and the expenditure decreased at an annual rate of 4.02%.We also found that 80% of the anti-infection drugs were antibiotics.The consumption of?-lactamase inhibitor valued 44.120 5,73.696 7 and 95.163 0 million Yuan in 2003,2004 and 2005,respectively(with a yearly growth of 46.86%),ranking the 3rd in 2003 and the 2nd in both 2004 and 2005.The consumption of cephalosporins ranked the first during 2003-2005.The top 20 anti-infection drugs occupied nearly 80% of the total consumption;the consumption of sulbactam sodium/cefoperazone raised from the 17th in 2003 to the 5th in 2004 and to the first in 2005.Conclusion:The consumption of anti-infection drugs has been restrained;cephalosporins are still the major drugs in clinical practice;and the consumption of sulbactam sodium/cefoperazone is on the rise year by year.

Abstract?AlM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of silicone oil removal with a 23G transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy system linked disposable transfusion tube and self-made suction tip.?METHODS: The suction tip was made with a 23G infusion tube be cut from the end of the 5mm. lt was used to connect the disposable transfusion tube and 23G puncture cannula. The disposable transfusion tube which was cut from the end of the MaiFei's pipe was connected with the effusion box of the vitreous cutter. lntraocular silicone oil was proactive suction and removed through two incisions on pars plana ciliaris with the vitreous cutter suction system.?RESULTS:Only 13 cases (9. 8%) need suture puncture ports in 132 cases in the operation. Operation time was 7-28min. The average operation time was 15. 1± 6. 2min. ln early postoperative, there were 107 cases ( 81. 1%) appeared lower intraocular pressure (<11mmHg) and 2 cases appeared choroid detachment in 132 cases patients. Most of the patients recovered to normal but 2 case ( 1. 5%) high myopia macular hole retinal detachment occurred recurrent retinal detachment 1wk after operation. Silicone oil was removed cleanly in the most patients, only 4 cases (3. 0%) with a little silicone oil residue.?CONCLUSlON:The surgery that silicone oil is removed through two incisions with a 23G transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy system linked disposable transfusion tube and self - made suction tip has the advantages of safe, effective, fast, economic, and it is worthy of popularization and application in clinical.

Objective To investigate relationship of immunoglobulin concentrations (IgG,IgA,and IgM)and decrease of serum Mg2+ concentration in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI).Methods Sixty patients with sTBI were randomly divided into control group and study group.Intravenous injection of MgSO4 was given to study group.Levels of Mg2+ in serum and immunoglobulin (IgG,IgA,and IgM) in both groups were measured at 1,3,7,and 14 days after injury so as to analyze correlations of serum Mg2+ concentration with each humoral immune indices.Results IgG concentration at days 3 and 7 in study group were (10.79 ± 2.65) g/L and (10.2 1 ± 2.54) g/L respectively,higher than that in control group (P ＜ 0.05).IgM at days 3 and 7 in study group were (1.27 ± 0.32) g/Land (1.31 ± 0.25) g/L respectively,higher than that in control group (P ＜ 0.05).Difference of IgA level between the two groups was not significant.Level of Mg2 + was positively related to levels of IgM and IgG,but not to level of IgA.Pathological amelioration at day 14 between the two groups showed insignificant difference.Conclusion Intravenous replenishment of MgSO4 for patients with sTBI at acute phase can improve humoral immunosuppressive state,but can not ameliorate prognosis.

In this paper, the process performance indexes (PPIs) P(p) and P(pk) were introduced and applied to evaluate the process capability and quality consistence of Chinese medicine products. The historical quality analysis data of Qingkailing injection were collected and taken as the research object. The confidence intervals of P(p) and P(pk) were estimated based on the Bootstrap sampling methods. Results showed that the value and width of the confidence interval P(p) of were smaller that of P(pk) suggesting that the P(pk) index was more sensitive than P(p) in process capability analysis. Within the production period concerned, the P(pk) values estimated from different quality indexes of Qingkailing injection, such as baicalin, cholic acid, geniposide and total nitrogen, were 1.122, 2.055, 1.564 and 0.891, respectively. It could be found that the cholic acid had the highest process capability, followed by the geniposide and baicalin. The total nitrogen had the lowest process capability, indicating that it is necessary to reinforce the quality management of total nitrogen related manufacturing processes. The case studies demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of PPIs, which are convenient to be used in production practice of Chinese medicine.

In order to evaluate the characteristic of porous starch (PS) as the solid dispersions carrier of the total Epimedium flavonoids (TEF), the PS was used. The dissolution of icariin was selected as an indicator to analyze the differences of dissolution between TEF and its solid dispersion. TEF was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Solid dispersion was irregular block and no powder characteristics of TEF and PS could be seen in SEM, DSC and XRD analysis suggested that TEF may be present in solid dispersion as amorphous substance. The dissolution rate of icariin has been improved significantly when the proportion of TEF and PS was 1:2. PS as a traditional solid dispersion carrier is worthy of further study.
