AIM: To determine the optimal operation method and reduce operative complications by retrospective analysis of outcomes of different operative manipulation for patients with congenital ectopia lentis ( CEL) .
●METHODS: A retrospective study ranged from Jan. 1, 2010 to Jan. 1, 2015 was conducted and 31 CEL patients (57 eyes) treated with different operations were taken into this study. The postoperative outcome, operation related complications was analyzed in terms of different operative manipulations.
● RESULTS: The most common types of CEL are idiopathic and Marfan - related CEL. All eyes ( 98%) benefited from operation except 1 Marchesani syndrome eye concurrent with optic atrophy induced by glaucoma. A total of 3 eyes ( 5%) were treated by phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation; 8 eyes ( 14%) were treated by phacoemulsification, capsular tension ring implantation combined with intraocular lens implantation, among these 8 eyes, 1 eye was treated with capsular tension ring implantation combined with suture fixation; 39 eyes ( 68%) were treated by lens excision and anterior vitrectomy through corneal incision combined with intraocular lens implantation with suture fixation, among these 39 eyes, 2 eyes were treated with trabeculectomy , but not combined with intraocular lens implantation; 5 eyes ( 9%) were treated by intracapsular cataract extraction and anterior vitrectomy combined with intraocular lens implantation with suture fixation; 2 eyes ( 4%) were treated by lens excision and vitrectomy through pars plana combined with silicon oil injection.
● CONCLUSION: Almost all patients can obtain satisfactory outcomes through various operative manipulations. Phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation was the first choice for patients with lens dislocation range less than 90°. Phacoemulsification, capsular tension ring implantation combined with intraocular lens implantation was recommended for 90° - 180°, and lens excision and anterior vitrectomy through corneal incision combined with intraocular lens implantation with suture fixation was more suitable for lens dislocation range more than 180°. The appropriate operative methods for different types of CEL patients is the key to success.

Based on the research progress and major achievements acquired in research of each methodology including identification of origin, description, microscopic, physical, chemical and biological characteristics of Chinese medicines, it is expounded that the development process of each methodology combined modem digital technology, information science and its own characteristics. And the development direction is further described for methodology of Chinese Medicines' Authentication towards systematization and informationization.

Objective To study and assess clinical application of two Nickel-Titanium(NiTi)rotary instru- ments,namely ProTaper and Hero 642,in preparation of root canals.Methods 125 teeth were divided into three groups and respectively instrumented by stainless K-files,ProTaper or Hero 642 rotary instruments.All teeth were obturated with lateral condensation method.The efficiency of preparation and obturation was analyzed with radio- graphs.Results NiTi rotary instruments were better in keeping the curvature and flow of curved canals than stain- less K files.There was no transportation,apical blockage and ledge in NiTi groups.The operative time was shorter and endodontic flare-up seldom occurred in NiTi groups.Conclusion The NiTi rotary instrumentation technique could be used to prepare curved root canals effectively and quickly.The future use of NiTi engine-driven rotary in- strument appeared to be promising.

Objective To study the effect of age and sex on circadian rhythms of renin-angiotensin system(RAS) .Methods 96 SPRD rats were divided into three groups.The levels of renin(Ren)activity,angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ)and angiotensin-converting-enzyme(ACE)in plasma or serum were respectively determined.Results The plasma or serum levels of renin,ACE,and angiotensin-Ⅱ in adult male group(D group)were significantly increased in comparison with elderly male group(M group)and elderly female group(F group).There were not significantly different between F group and M group in the levels of Ren activity,AngⅡ and ACE.The three substances presented typical circadian rhythms in three groups(P

This study was aimed to investigate the modulating effects on telomere length and telomerase activity in K562 cells treated by arsenic trioxide, ginseng saponin, beta-elemene alone or in combination with cyclophosphamide (CTX) and to explore the possible mechanism and new therapy for acute leukemia. Human erythroleukemic cell line K562 was co-cultured with the above-mentioned drugs. Cells were collected after 24, 48 and 72 hours for further detection. Telomere length and telomerase activity were detected by Southern-blot and PCR-ELISA respectively. The effects of these drugs were observed at different concentrations and exposure time. The results showed that (1) ginseng saponin, arsenic trioxide, beta-elemene, or CTX could completely inhibit the telomerase activity of K562 cells at proper concentrations and exposure time. The inhibiting effects were enhanced when the three former drugs were used with CTX. Telomerase activity decreased proportionally with the concentrations and length of time. (2) viability of K562 cells was decreased after being co-cultured with arsenic trioxide, ginseng saponin, beta-elemene and CTX. The level of inhibition depends on the concentration and exposure time. (3) telomere length of K562 cells was 5.36 +/- 0.18 kb. After being co-cultured with those drugs for 72 hours, telomere length was 5.90 kb -6.50 kb, significantly longer than that of control (5.18 - 5.35 kb). It is concluded that arsenic trioxide, ginseng saponin, and beta-elemene can inhibit the growth and telomerase activity of K562 cells. The inhibiting effects were enhanced when they were used in combination with CTX. The depression of telomerase activity may be one of the mechanisms of anti-tumor effect. Less dosage and shorter course can be expected when arsenic trioxide, ginseng saponin, and beta-elemene are used in combination with CTX. When telomerase activity was depressed, the telomere length prolonged a little, indicating K562 cell line may extend telomeres by some alternative way other than telomerase activation.

Objective To investigate correlative relations between the ultrasonic classification diagnosis and the clinicopathological features of thyroid calcification lesions.Methods The clinical data of 198 cases diagnosed as thyroid calcification lesions by ultrasonic,surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Spearman method was used to analyze the relationship of TCL ultrasonic diagnosis,clinical pathological traits and the classification of differentiated thyroid carcinoma(DTC).Results Among the 198 TCL cases,ultrasonic diagnosis and pathologic diagnosis were accordant in 178 (90.40％) cases.Among 119(60.10％) cases of thyroid carcinoma (TC),101 cases(84.87％)were papillary carcinoma,11 cases(9.24％)were follicular carcinoma,5 cases(4.20％) were medullary carcinoma and 2 cases(1.68％)were anaplastic carcinoma.Among 79 cases (39.90％) of benign lesions,34 cases(43.04％)were adenoma,27 cases(34.18％)were nodular goiter,and 18 cases(22.78％)were hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT).Calcified classification were as following 74 cases (37.37％)were type Ⅰ a and 4 cases (2.02％) were type Ⅰ b(both were TC);20 cases(10.10％)were type Ⅰ c,among which 19 cases were nodular goiter,and 1 case was TC.Among the 37 cases (23.74％) of type Ⅱ,28 cases were TC,and 19 cases were benign lesions.Among the 20 cases(10.10％) of type Ⅲ,8 cases were TC,and 12 cases were benign lesions.Among 22 cases(11.11％) of type Ⅳ,2 cases were TC,and 20 cases were benign lesions.Among 11 cases(5.56％) of type V patients,2 cases were TC,and 9 cases were benign lesions.The rate of TC with cervical metastasis was 41.18％(49/119).68.91％(82/119) of carcinoma nodules were grade Ⅱ-Ⅲ in color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI),grade 0-Ⅰ were mainly benign nodules,and grade Ⅲ with mussy blood flow in CDFI were HT.Conclusions Type Ⅰ a and Ⅰ b micro calcification is the pathological basis of ultrasonic diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma and follicular carcinoma,which is closely related to DTC.Calcified isolation nodule of type Ⅱ and Ⅲ with level Ⅱ-Ⅲ bleeding is a risk factor for TC.Type Ⅰ c,Ⅲ,Ⅳ and Ⅴcalcification is closely related to benign TCL.CDFI has important value for identifying benign and malignant CLT.
