3.Re-osseointegration of peri-implantitis affected and failed implants
STOMATOLOGY 2023;43(1):35-38
Peri-implantitis and implant failure are common issues in the implant dentistry. The contaminated implant can be treated with mechanical, chemical and assisted methods for the formation of re-osseointegration. Re-osseointegration is achievable with valid bone regeneration strategies. The survival rate of implant into the site of previous failure is lower than that of the initial implant. For the hopeless and failed implant, it is necessary to remove the implant with corresponding technique.

Orthopedic Journal of China 2006;0(22):-
[Objective]To evaluate the effect of treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fracture with dynamic condylar screw.[Method]Fifty-six cases of unstable intertrochanteric fractures were treated with typical ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) with dynamic condylar screw from 2000 to 2004. According to the Evan's classification systems, there were 19 cases of Evan's Ⅲ fracture, 27 cases of Evan's Ⅳ fracture and 10 cases oblique reverse Evan'sⅤ fracture. The average period of follow-up was 10 months (8~15 months).[Result]All cases had union with average union time of 4 months, no coxae inversion, fixation failure and fracture nonunion. The satisfactory rate of function was 89%. [Conclusion]For unstable intertrochanteric fracture, including Evan's Ⅲ, Evan's Ⅳ and oblique reverse Evan'sⅤ fracture, using DCS is a good method to improve the clinical results.

Chinese Journal of Ocular Fundus Diseases 2012;(6):549-551
Stem cells are crucial for embryonic development and in the maintenance of adult cellular homeostasis.Understanding the regulatory network of stem cells, including embryonic and adult stem cells, will allow us to learn the pathogenesis and possibly design novel approaches to treat many diseases (such as cancer and degeneration). The retinoblastoma (Rb) pathway controls cellular proliferation, differentiation and death.More and more evidences support an important role of Rb activity in the biology of stem and progenitor cells.Transiently inactivating Rb pathway might favor the expanding of functional stem cell populations, thus have values in the future stem cell applications.

BACKGROUND: Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system existed in bone tissue. Recent studies on antihypertensive drugs found that angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor type antihypertensive drug was possibly effective for osteoporosis. Perindopril is one of the commonly used antihypertensive drugs. Whether perindopril affected bone metabolism or could be used in anti-osteoporosis has not been reported.
OBJECTIVE: To observe effects of perindopril on bone metabolism in a rat model of osteoporosis induced by retinoic acid.
METHODS: Fifty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups, with ten in each group. In the model group and each perindopril groups, rats were intragastricaly administered retinoic acid solution 80 mg/kg per day. After successful model establishment, rats in different perindopril groups were intragastrical y administered perindopril 2, 4 and 8 mg/kg per day, once a day, for 42 consecutive days. In the normal control and model groups, rats were given an equal volume of distil ed water. Serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, bone mass and bone mineral density were detected in each group. Expression of bone specific alkaline phosphatase and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase mRNA in bone tissue was determined.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with the model group, after treatment with perindopril, serum calcium and phosphorus levels were increased, alkaline phosphatase activities were significantly decreased, bone mass and bone mineral density were obviously increased in rats with retinoic acid-induced osteoporosis. Expression of bone specific alkaline phosphatase mRNA was higher in the perindopril 8 mg/kg group than in the perindopril 2 and 4 mg/kg groups and model group. Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase mRNA expression was higher in the perindopril 8 mg/kg group than in the model group. These results indicated that perindopril could improve partial bone metabolic biochemical markers in osteoporosis rats, promoted bone formation by up-regulating bone specific alkaline phosphatase mRNA expression, and had a certain preventive effect on retinoic acid-induced osteoporosis.
