Objective To compare the effect of three methods in diagnosis of plague by detecting of Yersina pestis F1 antigen. Methods In natural foci of plague, wild animal samples, such as blood, liver, spleen, and lymphoid tissue were collected, and the three methods of enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA),reverse indirect hemagglutination assay(RIHA) and gold-immunochromatography assay(GICA) were employed to detect F1 antigen of Yersina pestis. Results Total of 414 infused organ samples of natural death and captured wild animals in natural foci of plague were determined. Positive samples detected by GICA and ELISA were the same, the positive rates were 5.31%(22/414), both positive and negative coincidence rates were consistently 100%. Only 18 samples were positive by retrial in 186 samples with more than 2 holes aggregation by preliminary examination of RIHA, with nonspecific agglutination rate of 40.6% (168/414) and positive rate of 4.35% (18/414). The positive coincidence rate was 81.82% (18/22) between RIHA with GICA and ELISA, and negative coincidence rate was statistically significant(t = 4.379, P < 0.01). Conclusions ELISA, RIHA and GICA can be used for early diagnosis of plague by detecting F1 antigen. The results of RIHA have quantitative significance, with higher non-specific agglutination rate, and heavy workload of re-examination; GICA and ELISA has the same specificity and sensitivity, but the results of GICA is only qualitative. ELISA excluded the defect of RIHA and GICA, and combines the advantages of both methods.

OBJECTIVETo verify the efficacy on Parkinson's disease combined with depression treated with electroacupuncture and medication and to explore the therapeutic mechanism.
METHODSSixty cases of Parkinson's disease combined with depression were randomized into an acupuncture + medication group and a medication group, 30 cases in each one. The conventional therapeutic program of oral administration of madopar and fluoxetine was applied in both groups. In the acupuncture + medication group, on the basic treatment as the above, electroacupuncture was applied to Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (EX-HN 3), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Taichong (LR 3) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), etc. The level of the serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and the score of Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) were observed and compared before treatment and after 3 months of treatment. The efficacy was assessed in two groups.
RESULTSThe level of BDFN was improved significantly after treatment as compared with that before treatment in two groups (both P < 0.05) and the result in the acupuncture + medication group was superior to the medication group (P < 0.05). HAMD scores were reduced significantly after treatment as compared with those before treatment in two groups (both P < 0.05) and the result in the acupuncture + medication group was superior to the medication group (P < 0.05). The total effective rate was 90.0% (27/30) in the acupuncture + medication group, which was better than 83.3% (25/30) in the medication group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe combined therapy of electroacupuncture and medication achieves the significant efficacy on Parkinson's disease combined with depression. This therapy regulates effectively serum BDNF level, relieves depression symptoms of the patients. The efficacy of electroacupuncture combined with medication is superior to the simple medication.

Chinese Journal of Surgery 2009;47(18):1379-1382
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the short term effectiveness of lumbar disc herniation by Coflex.
METHODSFrom December 2007 to June 2008, 31 patients (16 males and 15 females) were treated by Coflex. The average age was 51.4 years (range, 33 - 70 years). The average period of follow-up was 10 months. To evaluate the short term effectiveness of lumbar disc herniation by Coflex by JOA, VAS, the conventional radiography and oswestry disability index (ODI).
RESULTSThe average JOA score increased from 9.1 +/- 1.1 preoperatively to 26.4 +/- 1.7 at 6 month postoperatively. ODI decreased from 24.7 +/- 4.8 preoperatively to averaged 4.5 +/- 1.1 at 6 months postoperatively. The VAS score decreased from 7.9 +/- 0.8 to 3.0 +/- 0.9. The clinical symptoms after operation were improved significantly. There were statistically significant differences between the preoperative and postoperative HD (height of dorso- intervertebral discs), DS(distance across the two adjacent spinous processes), DI (distance of intervertebral foramina). The average HD increased from (7.9 +/- 1.1) mm preoperatively to (10.8 +/- 1.3) mm after operation. The average DS increased from (28.3 +/- 2.4) mm preoperatively to (36.4 +/- 1.7) mm postoperatively. The average DI changed from (18.8 +/- 1.0) mm preoperatively to (21.6 +/- 1.7) mm postoperatively. Complications occurred in 3 patients (9.6%). One case complained of persistent low back pain. One case showed opposite lower limb pain in 3 weeks after operation, and was cured after appropriate treatment. One case had the loosening of Coflex in 6 months after surgery, but did not appear related clinical symptoms.
CONCLUSIONCoflex for lumbar disc herniation can increase the HD and DI significantly, and it has positive meaning for keeping height of lumbar vertebral space and treating the nerve root symptom of lumbar disc herniation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the influence of adding anti-human thymocyte globulin (ATG) into conditioning regimen on graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and life quality of the patients of allo-peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT).
METHODSPatients were distributed into study (19 cases) and control (24 cases) groups at random. Median dose of rabbit ATG was added to the conditioning regimen based on the fludara, busufan and cyclophosphamide (FBC) in study group, and no ATG in the control group. Acute and chronic GVHD disease and Karnofsky scores were compared between two groups after allo-PBSCT.
RESULTSThe patients in the study group received a mean of 6.0 (3 - 9) x 10(8)/kg mononucleated cells and 5.5 (4.5 - 7.5) x 10(6)/kg in the control group. The mean CD(34)(+) cells number was 5.5 (3.0 - 6.5) x 10(5)/kg in the study and 5.0 (3.0 - 7.0) x 10(6)/kg in the control group respectively. Eighteen patients in the study group and in the control group were successfully engrafted. The mean time of absolute neutrophil count recovered more than 500/ micro l was 13 days and 12 days respectively. Acute GVHD occurred in 6 patients of the study group, and 15 of the control group. Seven patients suffered from chronic GVHD and 14 got 90 Kanrofsky scores in a mean of 250 days follow-up in the study group, and 19 patients GVHD and 4 patients respectively in a mean of 440 days follow-up in the control group. There was a significant difference for acute and chronic GVHD and life quality between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONSAddition of anti-thymocyte globulin to the FBC conditioning regimen had no effect on stem cells engraftment but could decrease acute and chronic GVHD and improve patients life quality.
