Objective To explore the functional impairment characteristics of acute stroke patients and cor- relate them to the functional independence after rehabilitation therapy. Methods Seventy-nine inpatients with stroke were divided into hemorrhage group and infarct group according to their condition.They are assessed by using measures of ESS,MBI,MMSE,Sheikh,Fugl-Meyer Balance and Fugl-Meyer motor assessment before rehabilitation treatment.After 1 month of treatment,all the patients were evaluated again using FIM.Correlation analysis was con- ducted with all the parameters. Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture in treating deglutition disorders after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Method Forty nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with deglutition disorders after radiotherapy were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 20 in each group. The control group was intervened by nourishing nerve, improving microcirculation, promoting nerve growth factor, and physical rehabilitation. Based on the treatment given to the control group, the treatment group was additionally intervened by electroacupuncture. Water drinking test was adopted to evaluate the deglutition function before and after intervention, and the clinical efficacy was compared. Result After intervention, there was no significant difference in comparing the deglutition function between the two groups (P>0.05). The total effective rate was 80.0%in the treatment group versus 50.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture is an effective method in treating deglutition disorder after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Objective To make a Meta-analysis of the effectiveness and safety of Shenling Baizhu Powder (SBP) for the treatment of ulcerative colitis(UC),thus to provide evidence for the clinical treatment of ulcerative colitis.Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of SBP combined with western medicine vs western medicine in treating ulcerative colitis were included.The quality of RCTs was assessed by the Cochrane scale.A Meta-analysis was performed for the clinical efficacy,improvement of disease activity index (DAI) levels of the included trials.Results A total of 19 RCTs were included,involving 1498 cases.The results of Metaanalysis showed that compared with the western medicine group,the combined risk ratio(RR) of clinical efficacy in the SBP combined group was 1.55,95％ confidence interval (CI) being (1.39,1.72).The subgroup analysis based on control medicine showed that the combined RR of combined use of sulfasalazine or mesalazine/Olsalazine was 1.46,1.59 [95％CI (1.19,1.77) vs 95％CI (1.40,1.80)].The subgroup analysis based on different treatment courses showed that the combined RR of 1-30 days,31-60 days,61-90 days was 1.42,1.69,1.47 [95％CI (1.18,1.70) vs 95％CI (1.44,1.97) vs 95％CI (1.15,1.88)] respectively.The differences were significant (P ＜ 0.05).(2) The differences of the two groups on the improvement of DAI and inflammatory factors levels of interlekin-17(IL-17),IL-23,tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP) were statistically significant(P ＜ 0.05).(3)The sensitivity analysis of the primary outcomes showed a higher homogeneity in the literatures and the funnel plot analysis showed no evidence of publication bias.Conclusion Compared with western medicine,SBP combined with western medicine has better clinical efficacy for the treatment of UC,and the combined use of mesalazine/Olsalazine medicated for 30-60 days is more effective on improving DAI and inflammatory factors levels.However,for the low quality of the included literatures and insufficient experimental design,the conclusion needs more evidence from large sample-size randomized double-blind controlled trials.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of several methods in eliminating Mycoplasma contamination in cell culture of human hepatoma-derived cell line C3A. Methods PCR was performed to detect the Mycoplasmas contamination in cell cultures. The contaminated samples were treated by ciprofloxa-cin, heating, Plasmocure or co-culturing with macrophages. Transmission electron microscope ( TEM) and Q-PCR were used to comparatively analyze the cell morphology and gene expression before and after Plas-mocure treatment. Results Plasmocure succeeded in eliminating Mycoplasma contamination, while cipro-floxacin showed temporary efficacy. Heating and co-culturing with macrophages failed to eliminate Mycoplas-ma contamination. No Mycoplasma contamination in the Plasmocure-treated group was observed under TEM and the expression of ALB, TF and CYP3A4 genes were higher than the genes expressed in the contaminated group (P<0. 01). Conclusion Plasmocure treatment was effective in eliminating Mycoplasma contamina-tion in cell culture. Moreover, the cell morphology and gene expression in Plasmocure-treated group were re-stored to normal.

Objective To explore the effects of dexmedetomidine on postoperative cognitive function after non-cardiac surgery in elderly patients by meta-analysis.Methods We searched Co-chrane Library,MEDLINE,EMbase,Ovid,Springer,China Biology Medicine,CNKI,VIP and WanFang Data for controlled clinical trials.All randomized controlled trials (RCT)that meet their standards of dexmedetomidine on postoperative cognitive function after non-cardiac surgery in elderly patients were collected. The meta-analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.3. Results Twenty-two trials with 1 713 patients were included in this meta-analysis.The results of me-ta-analysis showed that:Mini-mental state examination (MMSE)MD=2.99,95%CI (2.25,3.74) one day before operation,MD=1.66,95%CI (0.68,2.64)three days after operation,MD=1.52, 95%CI (0.55,2.49)seven days after operation,respectively (P <0.05);Perioperative dexmedeto-midine treatment was significantly associated with better neurocognitive performance in comparison with saline.Compared with normal saline group,the serum concerntrations of neuron-specificenolase, S100β protein, TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly decreased in dexmedetomidine group. Conclusion The present meta-analysis indicates that dexmedetomidine shows superiority over placebo in early postoperative neurocognitive function after non-cardiac surgery in elderly patients.

Exercise quantity is one of the important indexes used to evaluate physical consumption during training, so it is necessary to design a kind of instrument to accurately measure physical consuption. It must be practical, portable and with a low power consumption. This article introduces the mechanism of measuring exercise quantity. The methods of traditional and acceleration compared, the latter is selected. The design is described from the two aspects of general design and component choosing.

Objective To develop the human colon carcinoma(HT-29) liver metastasis model in nude mice,and to detect the expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptases(hTERT) mRNA in liver of nude mice. Methods Liver metastases were established in 30 Balb/c nude mice by intrasplenic injection of colonic cancer cells(HT-29),and the spleens were resected.After being sacrificed,the tumor growth was observed,and the pathological examinations were performed.The expression of hTERT mRNA in the livers of nude mice was detected by RT-PCR technique. ResultsHuman colon carcinoma(HT-29) liver metastasis model was developed in all the 30 nude mice,with the liver metastasis rate of 100%.The pathological results revealed the occurrence of liver metastases,and the expression of hTERT mRNA was positive in the liver tissues. Conclusion Intrasplenic injection of HT-29 cell is a reliable way for producing colonic cancer liver metastasis model,and the positive expression of hTERT mRNA in liver tissues indicates the significance of hTERT in the early diagnosis and treatment of colon carcinoma liver metastasis.

The expression of paired immunoglobulin-like receptor B (PirB) in normal and injured spinal cord of rats was investigated. The SD rat hemi-sectioned spinal cord injury (SCI) model was established. Before and 1, 3, 7, 10 days after SCI, the spinal cord tissues were harvested, and Western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to examine the expression and location of PirB. The results showed that the expression level of PirB in the normal spinal cord of SD rats was low. At the first day after SCI, the expression of PirB was obviously increased, and that in the injured spinal cord from the first day to the 10th day was significantly higher than in the normal spinal cord. The positive expression of PirB in neurons from different regions of gray matter of the injured spinal cord was seen. It was concluded that the expression of PirB in the normal spinal cord of rats was low. The expression of PirB in SCI was significantly increased till at least the 10th day.

Background Aheration of eyeball wall caused by ocular axial extension is associated with multiple complications of high myopia.However,the study on quantitative analysis of choroidal thickness and axial length in adult high myopic patients is less.Objective This study was to investigate the choroidal thickness in high myopic eyes of adult patients and estimate the correlation of choroidal thickness with axial length,age,and spherical equivalent(SE).Methods A prospective cohort study was designed.Seventy-five eyes of 75 adult patients with high myopia were entrolled from December 2012 to May 2013,and 70 eyes of 70 age-and gendermatched healthy volunteers were included in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.Enhanced depth imaging (EDI)on Cirrus spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) was used to measure the choroidal thickness from the outer border of the retinal pigment epithelium through the inner scleral boarder among the 11 meridians in a 500 μm intervals and range of 2 500 μm for each from fovea toward temporal and nasal lateral.The differences of choroidal thickness and axial length were compared between the high myopia group and normal control group,and the correlation of choroidal thickness with axial length,age,SE were analyzed.Results The subfoveal and mean choroidal thickness values were (146±52) μm and (142±63) μm in the high myopia group,and those in the normal control group were (306±60) μm and (271 ±71) μm,with significant differences between the two groups (t =-17.130,P=0.000; t=-15.890,P=0.000).Choroid was thickest in the temporal and then was subfovea and nasal in the high myopia group,but in the normal control group,it was subfovea,temporal and nasal in turn,and the choroidal thicknesses in various areas were thinner in the high myopia group than those in the normal control group.A negative correlation was found between the choroidal thickness and axial length in high myopia group(r =-0.580,P =0.000),and the regression equation determined a decrease of 17.943 μm per millimeter of axial length.Conclusions SD-OCT determines that choroidal thickness is decreased in highly myopic eyes compared with normal eyes.Choroidal thickness varies with the change of axial length in adult high myopia patient.These findings indicate that abnormalities of the choroids may play a role in the pathogenesis of complication of high myopia.
