OBJECTIVETo evaluate the role of the combined periodontic-orthodontic treatment in the esthetic reconstruc- tion of the anterior teeth area following periodontitis.
METHODSThirteen adult patients with anterior teeth displacements were treated. The probing pocket depth (PD; 102 teeth, 612 sites), bleeding on probing (102 teeth, 204 sites), papilla index (PI; 128 papillae), and papillary height (PH; 128 papillae) of each patient were assessed at baseline, 3 months after the initial therapy, and the end of the orthodontic treatment. Non-parametric and paired-sample t tests were carried out for the statistical analysis of the data.
RESULTSThree months after initial therapy, the sites with PD ≤ 3 mm accounted for 79.58% (487/612) of the observed teeth, and 88.73% (181/204) of the buccal and lingual sites of the teeth showed negative bleeding on probing. These findings were better than those at baseline [26.31% (161/612) and 22.06% (45/204), respectively] (P < 0.05), but no sig- nificant difference was observed compared with pro-orthodontic treatment (P > 0.05). Prior to orthodontic treatment, the levels of the PI of 8 and 21 papillae were III and II, respectively, among the 128 observed papillae. After the orthodontic treatment, 51 papillae were at level III and 68 papillae were at level II. The PH of the 102 papillae was 2.84 mm ± 0.62 mm after ortho- dontic treatment. This result indicated significant difference compared with that of pre-orthodontic treatment (1.69 mm ± 0.57 mm) (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAfter initial therapy, moderate orthodontic teeth movements may reconstruct the interproximal soft tissue, with esthetic improvement of the papillary level and resolution of the periodontal defects.

Purpose:
: This study aimed to identify the effects of a multifaceted pediatric delirium education program for pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) nurses on their delirium knowledge, confidence in delirium nursing, and delirium evaluation accuracy.
Methods:
: This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 50 nurses in two units of the PICU at S General Hospital in Seoul. All participants took a 1-hour lecture with case-based practice for the first two weeks, and received feedback as they applied the program to clinical practice over the next two weeks. Test measures were completed before and after the four week intervention period for all participants. The delirium evaluation accuracy was measured using the Korean version of the Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium. Data were analyzed using the chi-square and paired t-tests.
Results:
: After the Pediatric Delirium Education Program, nurses’ delirium knowledge (x2 =11.65, p =.001), confidence in delirium nursing (t=9.71, p<.001), and delirium evaluation accuracy (t=6.07, p<.001) improved significantly.
Conclusions
: Pediatric delirium education programs for PICU nurses were effective. For active application of the program in clinical practice in the future, various cases of childhood delirium and specific strategies for each subject must be developed. To achieve this, long-term intervention and research for multiple organizations are required.

This study is to explore characteristic indexes in evaluation criteria for rat skin anaphylactoid test comparing skin blue spot OD values at the treated position and the control position in the same animal. Common contrast agents, traditional Chinese medicine injections and injections' active pharmaceutical ingredients or excipients in the existing clinical anaphylactoid reaction reports were taken as test drugs in the rat skin anaphylactoid test to define the K value: K > 2 represents positive anaphylactoid reaction, 1.2 ≤ K ≤ 2 represent doubtable anaphylactoid; K < 1.2 represents negative anaphylactoid reaction, which were taken as the criteria for evaluating anaphylactoid of tested drugs. The evaluation result and that for classic criteria were compared to study the applicability of K value. According to the comparison, K value, as the evaluation criteria in the rat skin anaphylactoid test, can more truly reflect the actual situation of skin aizen and minimize the error caused by animal individual factors. Compared with positive and negative two-level criteria for blue spot diameter, K value's positive, doubtable and negative three-level criteria are more objective and accurate. Therefore, K value can be used as the evaluation criteria in the rat skin anaphylactoid test.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2000;43(6):1071-1079
OBJECTIVES: For estimating the antenatal fetal wellbeing to develop new analysis method of fetal heart rate(FHR) with electronic Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring(eFHRM) and computer. METHODS: Heart rate signal is received from distressed fetus using eFHRM. It is necessary to carry out low pass filtering as a preprocess for the nonlinear method. Nonlinear parameters are calculated and classified to investigate the relations between these parameters and values of umbilical cord blood gas. RESULTS: By dividing values of the umbilical cord blood gas into 5 fetuses of acidemic group and 17 fetuses of non-acidemic group after 22 neonates who presented fetal distress were born, the following results as compared with nonlinear chaotic analysis result were obtained. 1. Delay time through AMI for acidemic group was 16.80+/-3.11, and was higher than 15.41+/-2.27 for non-acidemic group, and is not significant in statistics. 2. Embedding Dimension calculated with FNN method was 5.60+/-2.07 for acidemic group, and 4.71+/-1.26 for non-acidemic group, and it was not significant statistically. 3. Correlation dimension for acidemic group was 1.41+/-0.20, and was higher than 1.10+/-0.38 for non-acidemic group, and is not significant in statistics. 4. Mean crossing value by isoangular return map was 28.80+/-11.34 for acidemic group, and 16.65+/-7.00 for non-acidemic group, and it was significant statistically(P=0.008). 5. In comparison of information entropy in 1-D ED, acidemic group was 6.32+/-0.38 and non-acidemic group was 6.20+/-0.28 and it was not significant statistically. Also, in comparison of value in 2-D ED, acidemic group was 10.20+/-0.34. It was higher than non-acidemic group of 9.51+/-0.43 significantly in statistics(P=0.004). But, in comparison of value in 2-D EP, acidemic group was 8.78+/-0.86 and non-acidemic group is of 9.22+/-0.74 and it wasn't significant statistically. And, 2-D ED(DI) value was 10.64+/-0.14 for acidemic group and 10.51+/-0.18 for non-acidemic group, and it wasn't significant statistically. CONCLUSIONS: By the above result, nonliner dynamics and chaotic analysis of heart rate data with computer can serve as a new diagnosis method which may estimate the fetal wellbeing with real time. Through further studies for establishment of diagnosis standard and computer programming, real time diagnosis method shall be applied to clinical practice.

Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2010;09(7):682-685
Objective To investigate the reversal effect of intravenous injection of erythropoietin on vasospasm in the basilar artery in rabbits subjected to subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods Thirty male New Zealand adult white rabbits weighing 2.0-2.5 kg were equally randomized into 5 groups: sham-operated group, SAH0 group, SAH1 group, SAH2 group and SAH3 group. SAH models of single-hemorrhage were established by injecting autologous arterial blood (1.0 mL/kg) into the cistema magna in SAH group's rabbits, while animals in the sham-operated group received an injection of normal saline (1.0 mlAg). Twenty-four h after SAH, rabbits in the sham-operated group and the SAHO group were received intravenous injection of normal saline (0.1 mL/kg), meanwhile, intravenous injection of r-Hu-EPO at dosages of 500,1000, or 2000 IU/kg was initiated in the SAH1 group, SAH2 group SAH3 group, respectively. All animals were sacrificed by perfusion-fixation 48 h after SAH induction. The cross section areas of basilar arteries, corrugation coefficient (CC) of the basilar arteries, and hippocampus normal neuron density of CA1 area were measured by Image-Pro-Plus software. Results Morphology observation on the basilar arteries showed no obvious changes in the sham-operated group, significantly thickened and disorganized vascular walls with thickened tunica media and disorganized smooth muscle in the SAH0 and SAH1 groups; the internal elastic lamina in the SAH3 group was folded. Compared with that in SAH0 group [(0.07±0.02) mm2], the cross-sectional area of basilar arteries in SAH2 [(0.10±0.01) mm2] and SAH3 [(0.16±0.02) mm2] groups were significantly increased (P<0.05); the CC in SAH2 (1.22± 0.06) and SAH3 (1.15±0.03) groups was significantly lower than that in the SAHO group (1.31±0.09, P<0.05); and the normal neural density of hippocampus in CA1 area in the SAH3 group [(126.8±5.7) cell/mm] was significantly higher than that in the SAHO group [(99.3±9.6) cell/mm, P<0.05]. Conclusion A single intravenous injection of erythropoietin 24 h after SAH can still reverse SAH-induced vasospasm and attenuate injury of neurons.

OBJECTIVE: The ovine fetus responds to hemorrhage with a 10-20 fold increase in plasma erythropoietin (EPO) concentration at 24 hr and a return toward normal at 48 hr after the hemorrhage. The objective of the present study was more accurately to compare the magnitude and time course of the plasma EPO response after fetal hemorrhage. METHODS: Chronically catheterized, 12 of late gestation ovine fetus were gradually hemorrhaged 40% of their blood volume over 2 hr (1ml/min). Plasma was sampled for EPO concentration at 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24, 30, 36 hr after initiating the hemorrhage were collected at these times. Radioimmunoassay was used to measure plasma EPO concentrations. Analysis of variance was used for statistical analysis. RESULT: After a slow hemorrhage in the ovine fetus (1ml/min over 2hr), plasma EPO concentration increased significantly at 4hr (2.3 times basal values), reached a maximum at 16 hr (33.3 times basal values), and declined thereafter. CONCLUSION: We studied change in time course of the fetal plasma EPO after slow hemorrhage and recent studies have shown that the fetal kidney, liver and placenta express EPO mRNA. These observation suggest that plasma EPO increase may be mediated by a tissue specific up-regulation of EPO transcription in the fetal kidney, liver and placenta. We have studied change in Epo mRNA expression in various fetal tissue after slow haemorrhage.
