1.Indomethacin for prevention of post-ERCP pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia

Objective To investigate the preventive effect of Indomethacin for post-ERCP pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia.Methods A total of 600 patients,who were undergoing ERCP,were randomly divided into 3 groups to receive anal Indomethacin (n=200),intravenous octreotide (n=200) or no special medication (n=200) before ERCP.The level of serum amylase before and 24h after ERCP were measured,and the rate of acute pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia after ERCP were assessed.Results Serum amylase levels before ERCP of all groups were normal.The mean serum amylase level of Indomethacin group (101.3±77.7 U/L) after ERCP was significantly lower than those of octreotide group ( 176.6±138.3 U/L,P =0.040 ]and control group (227.2±264.9 U/L,P=0.048),while there was no difference between octreotide group and control group ( P>0.05 ).The incidence of post-ERCP pancreatitis in Indomethacin group (2.5%) was significantly lower than that of control group (9.5%,P=0.003),while there was no difference between octreotide group (4.5%) and control group ( P=0.05 ).The incidence of hyperamylasemia after ERCP in Indomethacin group (5.5%) was significantly lower than that of control group ( 13.5%,P=0.006 ),while there was no difference between octreotide group (10.0%) and control group ( P>0.05 ).Conctusion Anal administration of Indomethacin before ERCP can effectively reduce the incidence of acute pancreatitis and hyperamylasemia after ERCP.
2.Acupuncture for premature ovarian failure: a prospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical efficacy and action mechanism of acupuncture for premature ovarian failure (POF).
METHODSAccording to prospective cohort study design, 30 cases were included. Based on theory of regulating Chong and Conception Vessels as well as soothing the liver and calming the nerves, acupuncture at Guanyuan (CV 4), Dahe (KI 12), Taixi (KI 3), Taichong (LR 3), Baihui (GV 20) was applied, three times per week and 3 months were considered as one session. Totally two sessions were performed. The menstruation condition, estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and scores of the clinical perimenopausal symptoms were taken as treatment outcomes.
RESULTSThe total effective rate was 86.7% (26/30) and the cured rate was 16.7% (5/30). The recovery rate of menstruation was 16.7% (5/30) and the regain rate of menstruation was 56.7% (17/30). After the treatment, the level of E2 was significantly increased from (45.41 +/- 18. 09) pmol/L to (59.07 +/- 24.21) pmol/L (P < 0.05), and the score of perimenopausal symptoms was obviously reduced from 14.28 +/- 8. 30 to 4.04 +/- 3.28 (P < 0.01). However, no statistical differences could be seen in FSH before and after treatment (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture has certain effect on improving menstruation and perimenopausal symptoms in POF patients, which is likely to he related with increasing the level of E2.

3.Effects of Cadmium on Rat Sperm Motility Evaluated With Computer Assisted Sperm Analysis

Objective To study effects of cadmium on rat sperm motility evaluated with computer assisted sperm analysis. Methods Different doses of cadmium chloride (0.2,0.4,0.8mg Cd/kg BW) were administrated ip to adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. Control animals received the same volume of 0.9% NaCl solution. After 7 days, the rats were sacrificed with their testes removed. A part of one testis was used for testicular sperm head counts and daily sperm production observation. The motility of spermatozoa obtained from cauda epididymides using the “diffusion”method was measured by computer assisted sperm analysis(CASA). Results The sperm head counts and daily sperm production decreased significantly in the high dose group. The motility of spermatozoa in the middle dose group was reduced significantly. No motile sperm was found in the high dose group. The results suggest that germinal epithelium was impaired irreversibly in a short time to produce toxic effects on spermatogenesis at high cadmium doses. Conclusion Cadmium may reduce sperm motility at a dose far below the dose affecting sperm production at this time point. The motility of sperm is an early and sensitive endpoint for the assessment of cadmium toxicity on male reproduction.
4.In vitro effect of STI571 on expression of c-kit in bone marrow cells from patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukemia.

This study was designed to explore the influence of STI571, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on the expression of c-kit in the bone marrow cells from patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). The cells were exposed to various concentration of STI571 for 72 hours, the expression of c-kit mRNA and CD117 was assayed by RT-PCR and flow cytometry, respectively. The results showed that STI571 treatment induced concentration-dependent decrease of c-kit and CD117 expression, which was significant lower than that in group before treatment and untreated control groups (P < 0.05) and 0.1 micro mol/L STI571 group was significantly higher than that in 10 micro mol/L group (P < 0.05). It is concluded that STI571 has an obvious effect on the restraint of c-kit in ANLL cells.

Objective To investigate the mechanism of klotho reversing the resistance of breast cancer to paclitaxel in MCF-7/PTX cells.Methods The Klotho expression in MCF-7 and MCF-7/PTX cells was detected by Western blot.The effects of Klotho on paclitaxel resistance in MCF-7/PTX cells was measured by MTT assay.The effects of Klotho and 3-methyladenine (3-MA) on proliferation and expression of Beclin1 in MCF-7/PTX cells were detected by MTT and Western blot assay,respectively.Results The expression of Klotho in MCF-7/PTX cells was decreased compared with MCF-7 cells.Klotho could sensitize MCF-7/PTX cells to paclitaxel.The expression of Beclin1 in MCF-7/PTX cells was higher than that in MCF-7 cells.Klotho and 3-MA could decrease the expression of Beclin1 in MCF-7/PTX cells,and the effects of Klotho on paclitaxel resistance in MCF-7/PTX cells was similar to that of 3-MA.Conclusion Paclitaxel resistance in breast cancer cells is related to expression of the Klotho which can reverse the resistance of breast cancer to paclitaxel by inhibiting autophagy.
7.Roles of neurosteroids in the treatment of depressive episodes

Neurosteroids are the key molecules in the central nervous system that modulate neural functions. They can influence human mood and behavior in various physiological and pathophysiological situations. Neurosteroids have been implicated in the pathogenesis of depressive episodes, providing innovative therapies for psychiatric disorders such as depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. This paper reviewed the research progress on the role of neurosteroids in the treatment of depressive episodes.
8.Gender difference of obesity in bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a kind of psychiatric disorder with wildly alternating emotion and complicated symptoms. Subjects with BD had a significantly higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome when compared to subjects with major depressive disorder and non-psychiatric controls, with risk related to a higher depression score and abdominal obesity. Gender difference in the patients with BD and obesity may be related to childhood adversity, migraine, hormonal alterations, psychotropic medications, diet and lifestyle factors. This article reviewed clinical features and the potential mechanism of gender difference in bipolar disorder with comorbidity of obesity.
9.Correlation between Expression of Peripheral IL-17 Protein and Aggression of Bipolar Mania.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the correlation between the interleukin-17 (IL-17) level of peripheral blood and aggression of bipolar mania.
METHODS:
Thirty-six patients of bipolar mania were selected as experimental group by DSM-IV-TR and received treatment with quetiapine and lithium. Thirty-six healthy volunteers with similar age and gender were selected as control group. The level of IL-17 at baseline in each group and the level of IL-17 in the experimental group after treatment for 2, 4 and 8 weeks were detected by ELISA.
RESULTS:
The level of IL-17 in experimental group at baseline, after treatment for 2 and 4 weeks were all significantly higher than that in control group. After 8 weeks treatment, there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). After 2, 4 and 8 weeks treatment, the total score and aggression score of Young Mania Rating Score (YMRS) were significantly lower than the baseline level (P < 0.05). In experimental group, the level of IL-17 was positively correlated with the two scores of YMRS at baseline (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Bipolar mania may be related to the up-regulation of IL-17. The level of IL-17 is related to the severity of manic symptoms at baseline, especially aggression symptom.

10.Efficacy analysis of sacral canal injection in patients with lumbar disc herniation associated with non sciatica

Objective:To observe the outcome after sacral canal injection in patients with disc herniation associated with without sciatica. Methods:From December 2010 to June 2011,65 patients with acute low back pain without sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation or bulging confirmed by CT or MRI were randomly divided into sacral canal injection group (experi-mental group) and lumbar oblique wrench group (control group):the experimental group had 35 cases,including 30 males and 5 females,with an average age of (43.90±1.14) years old ranging from 33 to 56 years old. The control group had 30 cases,in-cluding 27 males and 3 females,with an average age of (44.00±1.19) years old ranging from 34 to 57 years old. The course of morbidity was 1 to 3 days. All patients received sacral canal injection or lumbar oblique wrench method. The visual analog scale (VAS) scores before and at 30 min after treatment were compared between two groups. Results:The symptom of acute low back pain were relieved obviously. The average VAS scores before and after treatment in experimental group were de-creased from 6.63 ±0.97 to 3.06 ±1.51,in control group were from 6.67 ±0.96 to 3.93 ±1.20 respectively. These two methods could improve the VAS score,but the effect of sacral canal injection group was better than that of lumbar oblique wrench group,there was statistically differences (P<0.05). Conclusion:It is effective that the methods of sacral canal injection and lumbar oblique wrench applied to patients with acute low back pain without sciatica due to lumbar disc herniation or bulging confirmed,the former has better effect.
