2.Internet addiction in young people.

In our technology-savvy population, mental health professionals are seeing an increasing trend of excessive Internet use or Internet addiction. Researchers in China, Taiwan and Korea have done extensive research in the field of Internet addiction. Screening instruments are available to identify the presence of Internet addiction and its extent. Internet addiction is frequently associated with mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, conduct disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Treatment modalities include individual and group therapies, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), family therapy and psychotropic medications. A significant proportion of Singapore adolescents engaging in excessive Internet use are also diagnosed to have concomitant Internet addiction. Despite the presence of a variety of treatment options, future research in this area is needed to address its growing trend and to minimise its negative psychological and social impact on the individuals and their families.

3.Application of fresh amniotic membrane in microscopic adjustable suture surgery of intercommunity strabismus in childhood

AIM: To discuss the clinical efficacy of fresh amniotic membrane ( AM ) during the microscopic adjustable suture surgery in children's intercommunity strabismus, in order to guide clinical treatment.
METHODS: With the clinical randomized control study (RCT), 60 (112 eyes) cases of patients in childhood who received microscopic strabismus surgery in our hospital were divided them into two different groups from Jan. 2010 to Oct. 2015. According to the application of AM on the basis of ophthalmology outpatient number, 30 cases (58 eyes) in group A were treated with rectus muscle recession surgery combined adjustable suture combined with AM. The other 30 cases (54 eyes) in group B were treated with rectus muscle recession surgery combined adjustable suture only. All patients in two groups were followed-up over 6mo after the strabismus surgery.
RESULTS:Twenty-seven cases ( 48 eyes ) of all the strabismus patients must be adjusted after strabismus surgery, and the eye position adjustment rate was 42.9%. At 1mo after surgery, eye position of 18 cases (29 eyes) can be adjusted in all patients, and 44. 8% (16 cases, 26 eyes ) in group A with the average of adjustment lengths was 2. 56±0. 64mm, and 5. 6% ( 2 cases, 3 eyes ) in group B, with the average of adjustment lengths was 0. 52±0. 28mm, the differences of the adjustment rate and the average of adjustment amount were both high statistically significant (χ2 =22.477, P<0. 01; t=16. 502, P<0. 01 ) between the two groups. Except of 3 cases who couldn't cooperate with eye position adjustment, they all received eye position adjustment in different degrees in one month after strabismus surgery,and after eye position adjustment, 27 cases (53 eyes) in group A got normal eye position, and the correction rate of eye position was 91. 4%, and 16 cases (28 eyes) in group B got normal eye position after eye position adjustment, the correction rate was 51. 9%, the differences of the correction rate were statistically significant (χ2=21. 827, P<0. 01) between the two groups.
CONCLUSION: The application of fresh AM in the microscopic adjustable suture strabismus surgery is exactly effective in treatment of children's intercommunity strabismus. It can significantly extend the adjustment time and increase the adjustment amount, and it also can statistically improve the controllability and achievement ratio for children's strabismus surgery.
4.Effect of rapamycin on proliferation of rat heart valve interstitial cells in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of rapamycin on the proliferation of rat valvular interstitial cells in primary culture.
METHODSThe interstitial cells isolated from rat aortic valves were cultured and treated with rapamycin, and the cell growth and cell cycle changes were analyzed using MTT assay and flow cytometry, respectively. RT-PCR was used to detect mRNA expression levels of S6 and P70S6K in cells, and the protein expressions level of S6, P70S6K, P-S6, and P-P70S6K were detected using Western blotting.
RESULTSRat aortic valvular interstitial cells was isolated successfully. The rapamycin-treated cells showed a suppressed proliferative activity (P<0.05), but the cell cycle distribution remained unaffected. Rapamycin treatment resulted in significantly decreased S6 and P70S6K protein phosphorylation level in the cells (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe mechanism by which rapamycin inhibits the proliferation of valvular interstitial cells probably involves suppression of mTOR to lower S6 and P70S6K phosphorylation level but not direct regulation of the cell cycle.

Twenty-two items of national criteria of acupuncture-moxibustion operation standardization have been issued by the People’s Republic of China. To understand the situation of use of these criteria, the authors analyzed and studied the situation of application of acupuncture-moxibustion criteria in related papers, textbooks and monographs to provide a basis for further establishing and revising the criteria. The results show that people are building awareness of use of acupuncture-moxibustion criteria, and the criteria have gradually been used in more and more papers, textbooks and works.

Asthma action plan (AAP) is an essential component of asthma education and self-management. AAPs provide patients with instructions on how to recognise loss of asthma control and the appropriate treatment steps. The use of AAP improves asthma-related quality of life and reduces the risk of asthma exacerbation. Despite its benefits, utilisation of AAP is disappointingly low both locally and worldwide. This review highlights the importance of AAP as part of an asthma care plan and provides practical information on the prescription of AAPs. We conclude by identifying possible barriers to AAP implementation and how these may be overcome.
7.Comparison of hyaluronidase expression, invasiveness and tubule formation promotion in ER (-) and ER (+) breast cancer cell lines in vitro.

BACKGROUNDHyaluronidase (Hyase) is an enzyme which hydrolyses hyaluronan (HA), a large nonsulfated glycosaminoglycan. Several genes have been identified to code for hyaluronidases in humans. Its role has only recently been underlined in the invasion of prostate cancer, colonic cancer, and breast cancer. Moreover, the findings were in agreement with some experimental results which showed that HA-derived oligosaccharides had angiogenesis-promoting activity. All these findings prompted us to investigate factors that had been characterized as putative invasive factors in different human breast cancer-derived cell lines.
METHODSWe selected two series of human breast cancer-derived cell lines whose expression of estrogen receptors (ER) was previously published. Hyaluronidase secretion in culture medium and expression of matrix metallo-proteinase (MMP)-9, cathepsin-D (cath-D) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by cells were determined. We also investigated cell invasiveness in the Matrigel invasion assay, and studied the capability of cancer cells to promote in vitro formation of tubules by endothelial cells.
RESULTSER(-) cells secreted significantly more hyaluronidase (P < 0.001) and expressed significantly more VEGF (P < 0.01), MMP-9 (P < 0.05) and cath-D (P < 0.0001) than ER(+) cells. Invasion through Matrigel by ER(-) Hyase(+) cells was significantly higher than that by ER(+) Hyase(-) cells (P < 0.05). In both cases, invasion was decreased by heparin (P < 0.05). When ECV-304 endothelial cells were co-cultivated in millicell chambers with cancer cells, ECV-304 cells were induced to form tubules. Tubule formation was demonstrated to be more prominent with ER(-) Hyase(+) cells than with ER(+) Hyase(-) cells (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONInvasive features of ER(-) breast cancer cells can be characterized in vitro by an invasive Matrigel assay, as the induction of tubule formation by ECV-304 endothelial cells, higher secretion of hyaluronidase, and higher expression of proteinases MMP-9, cath-D, and the angiogenesis promoting factor VEGF.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose was to analyze the effects of three sterilization methods (dry heat sterilization, steam sterilization, and chemical sterilization) on the corrosion of dental fissure bur.
METHODS200 dental fissure burs were distributed to 10 groups. Bending strength, elastic modulus, and torsional strength were measured by bending and torsional instrument and calculated with special designed software. Among the three sterilization methods, the steam sterilization group showed the most evident.
RESULTSThe corrosion was most severe in steam sterilization group, followed by chemical sterilization, dry heat sterilization. With the sterilization time increased, bending strength, elastic modulus, and torsional strength decreased respectively. Of the three sterilization methods, the mechanical properties were decreased most evidently by steam sterilization, followed by chemical sterilization and dry heat sterilization.
CONCLUSIONIt is proved that the bending strength, elastic modulus and torsional strength have a tight relationship with the corrosion of dental fissure burs. The corrosion was most severe in steam sterilization group, followed by chemical sterilization, dry heat sterilization. In regards of the corrosive effect, the dry heat sterilization might be the best way to sterilize the dental fissure burs.

9.Molecular features and expression of DAZAP2 in human multiple myeloma.

BACKGROUNDIn our previous study, we found that DAZAP2 was the most significantly down regulated gene when differential screening of complementary DNA (cDNA) chips were used to analyze mRNA isolated from bone marrow mononuclear cells from newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) patients without anticancer treatment. In this study, we observed DAZAP2 mRNA and protein expression in the mononuclear cells from MM bone marrow and investigated its role in the pathogenesis of MM.
METHODSThe full-length cDNA of DAZAP2 was cloned and sequenced from mononuclear cells from human bone marrow. The nucleotide and amino acid sequences of DAZAP2 were analyzed using the ClustalW program. A dendrogram was constructed by multiple sequence alignment using ClustalW and amino acid sequence identity/similarity was derived based on comparisons attained using the MegAlign software. The recombinant pEGFP expression vector was constructed and the confocal microscopy was used for the localization of the DAZAP2 protein in transfected COS7 cells. The expression of DAZAP2 mRNA was detected by semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the expression level of DAZAP2 protein was detected by Western blotting analysis in MM samples.
RESULTSDAZAP2 proteins of vertebrates is highly conserved in evolution. It contains a proline-rich region, several potential SH2 and SH3 domain-binding motifs and a possible protein kinase C (PKC) phosphorylation site. We showed by confocal microscopy that the DAZAP2 protein predominantly resides in the cytoplasm with a discrete pattern of punctuated distribution. The expression of DAZAP2 was not detected in 24 of 36 MM samples by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. In contrast, DAZAP2 expression was detected in all 30 normal controls. The expression level of DAZAP2 protein was assayed by Western blotting analysis, showing a robust down-regulation in MM patients (P < 0.001) that matched with the results of the RT-PCR.
CONCLUSIONSDAZAP2 is downregulated in MM samples and it may be a signal molecule in MM cells. DAZAP2 is involved in the pathogenesis of MM and could be used as a genetic marker for MM.

10.Manipulation of superduct, adduction, rotation for the treatment of shoulder dislocation.

OBJECTIVETo study the mechanism and clinical effect of using the manipulatin of move, adduction, rotation method for the treatment of shoulder dislocation.
METHODSfrom January 2010 to March 2012,120 patients with shoulder dislocation admitted were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 60 cases in each group. In the treatment group, there were 31 males and 29 females; In control group, there were 30 males and 30 females. In treatment group, 60 patients create their own "on the move, adduction, rotation manipulative treatment,the other 60 cases in control group used traditional restoration methods in wearing the traction treatment. The efficacy of two methods of treatment of shoulder dislocation were compared on reset process once successfully rate, the patient's level of pain (VAS).
RESULTSIn treatment group, restoration once successfully were in 59 cases, improvement of the pain (VAS) values was 3.76 +/- 1.05, the results were excellent in 57 cases, good in 2, poor in 1,without concurrent fractures and nerve injury, without re-dislocation after 3 months. In control group, restoration once successfully were in 50 cases, improvement of pain (VAS) values was 5.67 +/- 1.15, the results were excellent in 45 cases, good in 7, poor in 8. The reset once successfully rate,improvement of VAS values and clinical effect in treatment group were better than that of control group.
CONCLUSIONOn the move, adduction, rotation method has advantages of more wearing traction with uniform force, work together to focus, saving time and effort, easy and convenient to avoid iatrogenic injury.
