There are many controversies concerning therapeutic guidelines for the treatment of Kienbock's disease. We experienced 17 cases of stage II or III Kienbock's disease(Lichtman's classification), which were treated with triscaphe fusion from March 1983 to March 1992. The mean Follow-up peri- od was 25 months. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiological result of triscaphe fusion of 17 cases of Kienbock's disease. 1. The pain was relieved in all cases, but range of motion was not improved after operation. 2. The postoperative results of triscaphe fusion were evaluated by Licthman's method. 9 cases (53%) were rated as satisfactory and 8 cases as unsatisfactory. 75%(3 cases of 4) were rated sat isfactory in IIIA a group and 22%(2 casaes of 9) were rated satisfactory in IIIB group. 3. The psudoarthrosis was noted in 2 cases of 17.

The variations of the occipital sinus were studied in 50 Korean adult cadavers. The morphology of the sinus was classified into 5 types accordingo to its number and the connection with the marginal sinus. These results were compared with the data of the occipital sinus of bones (Sir and Chung, 1907). And the opening of the occipital sinus in the confluens sinuum was observed. 1. A single small occipital sinus was found in 40%. Single occiital sinus with two large marginal sinuses was observed in 8%. The single sinus with a left marginal sinus (6%) and with a right marginal sinus(4%) were present. Double occipital sinuses were observed in 10% of the cadavers. No occipital sinus was discernible in 32%. 2. There were 39 openings of the occipital sinus including the double sinuses. The occipital sinuses communicated with the confluence sinuum in 35 cases (89.7%), with the straight sinus in 5.1% and with the right or left transverse sinus in 1 case, respectively. The openings in the confluens sinuum were found on the left side(51.3%), on the right side (10.3%) and in the center(28.2%). 3. The diameters of the occipital sinus were variable according to the connection with the sigmoid sinus. 4. The difference was found between the data of the morphological types of the occipital sinus that were studied in cadavers and in dry bones.

The variations of the sigmoid sinus were studied in 50 Korean adults (average age 67). The classification of the shape and a measurement of the diameters of the sinus were done and the morpological. 1. The shape was classified into 4 types, and the round type was the most common in both sides. S shaped type was below 10% in both sides. 2. The breadth was regular in 54% of the right and in 70% of the left sinuses. According to the breadth change, the shape was classified into 4 shapes. 3. The average diameter was 8.6mm on the right side and 7.2mm on the left side. 4. Symmetry was present in 16% of all. 5. The right transverse sinus was absent in 1 case (2%) and the superior petrosal sinus did not open into the sigmoid sinus in 2 cases (4%). 6. Petrosqamous sinus was observed in 16%.

To evaluate the role of MR in the examination of Legg-Calve-Perthes(LCP) disease, we retrospectively analysed the signal intensity of the osseous lesion, thickness of the articlar cartilage, change of surrounding soft tissue. Joint effusion and femoral head containment in 32 cases of LCP diseases in 27 patients. The bony lesion was limited witin the epiphysis in 19 cases(59%) and extended to the physis and metaphysis in 13 cases(41%). The epiphyseal lesion showed homogeneous(26/32) or heterogeneous(6/32) low signal intensity(ST) on T-1 weighted images(T1WI). And homogeneous (16/28) or heterogeneous(12/28)low SI on T-2 weighted images(T2WI). The metaphyseal lesion showed low SI(13/13) on T1WI, and low(9/11) or iso(3/11)SI on T2WI. Associated metaphyseal cyst showed low SI on T1WI and high SI on T2WI. An althought physeal involvement(13/32) was indistinct, the lesion showed increased SI on both T1 and T2WI. Thickening of articular cartilage(32/32), swelling f the ligamentum teres(7/32), synovial hypertrophy(7/32) and joint effsion(27/32) were demonstrated. Lateral subluxation of the femoral head on coronal image indicated incongruity of the femoral head in 25cases(78%) We conclude that MR is an useful tool for the diagnosis as well as treatment planning in LCP disease.

OBJECTIVE: In order to confirm the local production of total and specific IgE antibodies in the nasal polyp tissues. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We measured total IgE and house dust mite(Dermatophagoides pteronpssinus .' DP)-specific IgE antibody using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in the supernatant of nasal polyp homogenates from 72 subjects undergoing nasal polypectomy. The subjects were divided into three groups according to skin reactivity to DP: 20 strongly atopic subjects to group I(mean wheal diameter) 3mm), 19 weakly atopic subjects to group II (mean wheal diameter 1-3mm) and 33 negative skin responders to group III.
